Xara could not imagine Candy moving away. She promised herself she would remember that she could not control what Candy wanted to do and what she did not want to do as far as living arrangements were concerned, but she knew when it came down to it she would not allow her to move back to her old apartment. The people there had treated her poorly, they had violated her personal space more than a few times and the alien mother did not feel at ease letting Candy return. She would do anything to prevent that from happening, even if she had to keep Candy tied up in a closet for the rest of her life. Xara swallowed a dry lump in her throat and nodded, though not in agreement, at Candy’s words. Her tail tightened around her leg and she bit her lip harder, begging herself not to cry. Xara did not cry very often. She could count on two hands how many times in her extended life she had openly wept. Half of those times happened while she was an experiment in the facility. She had been so worried about losing her birth-daughter to the whims of age. Sasha was older and she wanted to explore and, all things considered, Xara thought she was doing a bang up job on letting giving her daughter a rather long leash. Many other parents would have kept their children in a plastic bubble if they had been through half of what Sasha had been through. But Craven seemed good for her: life seemed good for her, and the more normal she could feel her life was, the happier she was and that was all Xara really needed. That and to know she was safe, happy, and well fed. The same could be said for Candy, though the girl did not really need feeding. Xara considered Candy to be her daughter, by blood or not. It killed her to think that she may have driven her away because of something she had said.
"I... I want to thank you though, thank you for inviting me into your home. I should go though. I don't want to cause anymore conflict for you, or your family. I st-still have my job. I can look after myself." Xara felt a queasy bubbling in her stomach and, finally, tears slipped from her eyes and down to her chin. Her throat went dry, and it ached terribly. She was not used to the unpleasant feeling of crying, and the emotions became so strong it was all she could do to keep from smothering Candy in a massive embrace. It seemed as if Candy was really ready to leave, and this news made Xara want to curl into a dark place and wait for the end of her days. She was still reeling from the realization that Candy was serious about moving away when the girl suddenly, and very quickly, began correcting herself. Xara leaned back slightly and her ears perked in confusion, "I mean I don't mean it like... I didn't word it correctly! I meant to say without help... you've helped so much and... and I've - "
“Candy…”
"I've done nothing! You were right! You're so right."
The alien woman sighed and shook her head, then scooted down the bed to be closer to the distraught girl, and then she gently wrapped her arms around her and rested her chin on the girl’s head, which she stroked comfortingly in their embrace. “You have not done ‘nothing’. What would you do? All I want you to be concerned about is finishing school, and making a good life for yourself.” She explained softly. Xara’s strong arms squeezed the girl very slightly and then she pulled away to look into her pretty blue eyes. Scars decorated the alien’s features, though no amount of vicious scars could mask the loving, pleading look Xara had adopted. It looked almost comical on such an intense, frightening looking warrior. Xara had a war-weary look to her that some people would expect from a hardened criminal. One might even imagine Xara sitting in a dark room, sharpening a knife and say “I’ve seen things.” But Xara knew her life of war was nothing but necessity, not sport or glory. She took no glory in the pain and suffering of others. This woman was not a hardened criminal, or a warrior, or a grave and duty bound ruler. She was just a woman, and a woman who desperately wanted to comfort her adopted daughter.
“I do not want you to leave.” She said finally, taking Candy’s hands in her own and stroking them. She sighed heavily, “At least I do not want you to go back to your old apartment. If you move away, please do not go back there. I would help you pay for a nicer place and you could keep all your furniture. I would even help you move if that is what you really want. But I do not want you to leave at all and, Candy, I am so sorry for making you feel like you would need to leave because that is not how I feel at all. The only reason I would agree to it, is if you really thought you would be happier living elsewhere.”
Xara’s ears drooped slightly and her eyes continued to drip tears. She sniffed and wiped one away defiantly, “I am sorry I do not usually cry… I have been dreading the day you and Sasha want to leave me. I do not know what I will do…worry all the time probably. I love you both so much. I am lucky to have two daughters like you.” She admitted gently, “Rasha is not a bad person. I was upset with him for leaving me and I should not have been. And I should not have yelled at you Candy. I was wrong to do that, I should have given you the doubt.” She said, still not quite understanding the phrase. “But I did not, and I have upset you, and you want to leave because of this.”
[/b]Xara sniffed under more tears, though her voice was calm as ever as she wiped both eyes with the palms of her hands, “Please do not leave.”[/color][/b] Done like dinner :: The Status Candy <3 :: The Tags 1052 :: The Word Count Naww <333 :: The Comments [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]The people Candy had lived with previously had been less than the most desirable of room-mates. She'd never discussed in great detail, but mostly, it was a matter of them having no regard to personal space. The bathroom door would open without warning, creep up behind her, hide her things, they would change the ringtone on her mobile, and then hide it, throw her clothes in the bathtub, stick a 'disabled toilet sign' on her bedroom door and then do... filthy thing's to her bedsheets. She'd also find her mail was opened, and paychecks missing from time to time.
Despite all of this, Candy stayed there. So why, after one misunderstanding, was Candy prepared to leave this place? It was in this home, with this family she realised that the behaviour she had endured was not of the norm you'd expect from the people you lived with. Xara's family had taught her that there were decent people out there, willing to take in some strange little cyborg and give her a home.
Despite the fact that Candy usually believed in herself, there were many things which Candy accepted she'd need to re-learn for the first time. Many of these things you'd expect to learn gradually, as you grow older. Candy was trying to learn all of these things at once, and was often hard on herself for it. Be that as it may, she had grown a peculiar sort of pride for the fact she'd been dubbed something of a "gothic hippie" at school. She certainly preffered it over the other nicknames her classmates had come up with, anyway. She knew that they probably wouldn't ever view her in the light, but then again, she did not really care.
She had come to learn that she was quite old fashioned in her way of thinking. Particularly with the thoughts of romance. She was a firm believer that ladies are not supposed to make the first move and that guys should be chivalrous. Candy lived in her mind, and feelings, often simultaniously. She often doubted others and their true intentions, but often hoped they would not give her more reason to doubt. Xara had left her with a lot of doubts.
When Candy had made a mess of her words the second time, she had been convinced that Xara would start reprimanding her again. As kind as Xara was, she was also extremely intimidating when she wanted to be, in the blue-haired girls opinion anyway. But she had not gotten the reaction she had initially expected. Instead, tears began to roll down Xara's milky cheeks, and drip off of the end of her chin.
Xara's face was a mixture of sudden sadness, and confusion, which mostly served to puzzle Candy. Was this really the same alien-woman who had not long ago basically accused her of being as cold-hearted as Sasha's biological father, or as unreliable as Rasha?
With her face burried into the pillow Candy felt, rather than saw Xara move forward and carefully take her into her arms. Too afraid to resist, Candy simply allowed the woman to take hold of her and draw her towards her chest. Something damp touched the top of her head then, and Candy realised that Xara had rest her chin there.
“You have not done ‘nothing’. What would you do? All I want you to be concerned about is finishing school, and making a good life for yourself.” Xara spoke. Candy felt the matress tremble beneath her – or was that herself quivering in fear? The girl closed squeazed her eyes a little tighter in resignation, dreading what would happen to her if she tried to pull away. And yet at the same time... this almost felt nice.
But as soon as Candy began to ponder whether it in fact did feel nice, or if it was safe to move, the embrace was over. Maybe that was what snug feels like. Xara removed herself from the hug, so almost cautiously, Candy lift her head from the pillow and blinked each eyelid seperately, experimentally, up at the woman. Xara stared right back, and Candy held the gaze for as long as she dared. Blue staring into green. Xara's expression so different to what you would expect from her. Candy only dropped her gaze as Xara took both her hands in her own.
“I do not want you to leave.” She told her. “At least I do not want you to go back to your old apartment.
Wow. Candy could hardly believe her ears. This certainly wasn't the same person she had just encountered downstairs. Xara would never open her heart like this. Candy eyed her cautiously, curiously.
“I am sorry I do not usually cry…" She told her. "I have been dreading the day you and Sasha want to leave me. I do not know what I will do…worry all the time probably. I love you both so much. I am lucky to have two daughters like you.” Candy felt a hot burn inside her throat at Xara's words, and warm tears blurred her non-prosthetic eye. “Rasha is not a bad person. I was upset with him for leaving me and I should not have been. And I should not have yelled at you Candy. I was wrong to do that, I should have given you the doubt.” Candy had to tell herself not to wrinkle her nose at the peculiarity of the statement. She knew that Xara had her own unique way of word-phrasing, so it was no surprise she'd get a saying or term wrong here and there. “But I did not, and I have upset you, and you want to leave because of this.“Please do not leave.” Xara freed Candy's hands in order to wipe at her own face.
"Xara...I," what on Earth was she going to say in reply to that!? "I'm confused." She admitted, biting her bottom lip. "I'm not sure which side of you I'm supposed to believe. But then again, I guess that I have made a lot of assumptions about you that I probably shouldn't have, too. I'm…sorry as well. I do enjoy living here. I only wanted to leave because I thought it was what would be best. I meant it when I said that I don't want to make any trouble for your family." The way Xara had said "daughters" though, it was as though she considered her a daughter already, Candy mused. "You should know that I'd give Sasha the shirt off my back if she ask for it," She told her, sniffling only slightly now. "I think she's the best friend I've ever had."[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

"Xara...I," Xara waited apprehensively for Candy’s verdict. She was worried she had burned a bridge with what she had said and her worries were fairly serious (and valid) ones. She was worried that Candy would leave and then something bad would happen to her. She was worried she would go to her old apartment and get abused again. Having been a slave in her past and also an obvious lower class citizen, lesser than many animals in the human eye, Xara knew what it was like to be abused and she knew how horrible it could be. Despite her pride the sting of all of those years of constant abuse, people telling her she was worthless, spitting on her, taking her things from her (one instance a woman had taken Xara’s groceries from her and told her she had the right to and there was nothing she could do about it, which was true), and similar injustices left Xara with some internal scars that she had never quite managed to convince to heal. She did not want the same for Candy, and she knew of the things the children called her and said to her at school. She could not fathom what might become of her in her old apartment, and prayed that Candy would decide not to go back there. "I'm confused." Candy continued, "I'm not sure which side of you I'm supposed to believe. But then again, I guess that I have made a lot of assumptions about you that I probably shouldn't have, too. I'm…sorry as well. I do enjoy living here. I only wanted to leave because I thought it was what would be best. I meant it when I said that I don't want to make any trouble for your family." Xara looked down at her feet and wriggled her toes. She had different feet than a humans. Her feet were designed to grab onto things, like hands almost, but not quite. Her toes were longer and more finger like and she was able to make a sort of fist with her feet. She plucked at the blankets with her toes and also with her hands as Candy spoke. Her tail was shedding all over Candy’s room, and she apologetically began plucking it off her comforter. "You should know that I'd give Sasha the shirt off my back if she ask for it,"
Xara’s attention was drawn back to Candy and she gave her a touched smile, "I think she's the best friend I've ever had."
She placed her hand on Candy’s knee and rubbed it gently. “I think you are the best friend she has ever had, and I am glad for this. You are a good girl. Sasha looks up to you and I think you came into her life at a time where she needed you most. As for knowing which side of me to believe… I am sorry you believe there are two sides to me, though I can see where you would get that from. I wish I had words to make you believe that I am not lying to you when I say I want you to say and that I was wrong to have yelled at you, or that I ask for your forgiveness. I suppose there is nothing I can say to make you believe that.” She said quietly, “Except to say it again. I do care about you very much—I love you as a daughter, Candy, and I cannot imagine ever wanting you to leave. We may fight…it happens. I fought with my own mother many times in the past, believe me! I have the scars to prove it. I am not like my mother though,” she said hastily, “it was just something that happened on my homeworld, it was controversial but not illegal and so sometimes they happened…” she sighed, “Gods I am making a mess of this: I never wanted you to leave and I never thought you would make trouble for my family. You have seen my family, and I am surprised and flattered you think we could find any more trouble to be in.” she grinned slyly. Xara regarded the girl and then hugged her warmly again. “Will you stay? Perhaps later we can visit Tara: her baby is coming soon and I would like to be there for it if we can. Rasha is upset as well…but mostly because I made you cry.” She dropped her voice to a whisper, “I think he is…how do you say? Taken, by you. He speaks very highly of you and he thinks you are very pretty. Though knowing Rasha that is only a small matter to him. He does not know what you are yet though. It took me a while to figure it out. You had to tell me, yes? Well, do not be frightened to tell him because he will like you no matter what you are.” She picked up the necklace and admired it quietly, “Did he give this to you?”

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]Candy had already known she would rather return to her old appartment rather than the compound. In truth, she was still supposed to return to the hospital at least so that they could perform routine check-ups and make sure that her vital signs were that of a healthy person... cyborg. Girl. She also knew that she'd rather remove her real eye and swallow it whole than go back to her old appartment. It had been a right struggle indeed trying to make a choice between the two in regards to places to return to. She did not know of a life before these two places, so where else could she have resorted to if worst had come to worst? She had no idea.
Xara fidgeted restlessly, which only served to make Candy a little fidgety herself. She wanted to admit to her uneasiness, but thought better of it. Although the duo seemed to have calmed down considerably, Xara would probably always intimidate the girl.
Candy had never noticed until now, but Xara's appendages were different to that of a Human's. It shouldn't have come as a surprise, really. Although the woman was similar in structure, save for her ears, and a tail, Candy had not really expected her feet would look similar to a monkeys. That was the best she could describe the appearance. They even moved as you'd expect to see a monkeys would. But Xara was no primate. She was something entirely different.
It was not until she felt Xara place a hand on her knee did Candy pull her gaze away from the womans feet, and back into her eyes. “I think you are the best friend she has ever had, and I am glad for this. You are a good girl. Sasha looks up to you and I think you came into her life at a time where she needed you most. As for knowing which side of me to believe… I am sorry you believe there are two sides to me, though I can see where you would get that from. I wish I had words to make you believe that I am not lying to you when I say I want you to stay and that I was wrong to have yelled at you, or that I ask for your forgiveness. I suppose there is nothing I can say to make you believe that.”
Candy remained quiet as Xara continued. “Except to say it again. I do care about you very much—I love you as a daughter, Candy, and I cannot imagine ever wanting you to leave." Candy could not properly describe the feelings which joined the others inside of her, though now these feelings were more dominant. Hurt and fear were slowly being overpowered by longing, and uncertainty. She felt a strange sense of hope, too.
"We may fight…it happens. I fought with my own mother many times in the past, believe me! I have the scars to prove it. I am not like my mother though. It was just something that happened on my homeworld, it was controversial but not illegal and so sometimes they happened." Xara seemed to fumble with a few of her sentances, much like Candy had when she'd tried to correct herself. “Gods I am making a mess of this: I never wanted you to leave and I never thought you would make trouble for my family. You have seen my family, and I am surprised and flattered you think we could find any more trouble to be in.”
Candy smiled wryly, and gasped slightly as Xara leaned in for another hug, but this time, she reciprocated by offering Xara a short squeaze around her shoulders, and leaning back. She began to straighten out the creases she'd made in the pillow as Xara suggested they leave the house, perhaps, to meet with her friend Tara. It really wouldn't be too long before her baby arived, and Candy did suppose it would be good to get out of the house again. Seeing her luggage there lying on the floor only served to make her feel a strong feeling of guilt.
"I'll stay," She agreed, with a teary smile, but it faded as Xara mentioned that Rasha was upset. She glanced at the necklace she had tossed at the end of the matress, and felt guilt sweep over her. "He's taken by me?" She felt her face heat up, though it did little to extinguish the guilt. "He's very sweet," she told her. Handsome too, she thought privately.
"You think I should tell him what I am?" Candy could not mask the sudden horror she felt. "I couldn't," she shook her head. "I don't think so," she dissagreed. "Why, anyway? He doesn't need to know. It isn't obvious anyway, right?" She shrugged, a corner of her mouth tugging downwards. "Unless I wear a tank-top or shorts." She knocked on the prosthesis with a fist, sneering slightly at the dull clunk noise it made.
But as soon as she made the expression, it faded as Xara noticed the necklace Rasha had given her, and winced, feeling guilty. "Yeah, he made it," she explained, suddenly feeling a little protective over it. Funny, considering how she hadn't even wanted to look at it ten minutes ago. "Do you... think I stand a chance with him?" she asked, a little awkwardly. "I don't really even think he's interested in me in that way. But if he was... what do you think?"[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

The uncertainty was killing her. What if she said no? Xara would never forgive herself! Her heart was beating wildly as she continued to fiddle with the sheets with her feet and hands. She could not imagine her life without Candy now. As she embraced the young woman, still a girl really, Xara worried she would not reciprocate. If she did not, then that meant that she was considering leaving and that what Xara had said was unforgivable. The suitcase full of hastily packed clothes scared the warrior. The look on Candy’s face when she had first walked into the room also terrified her. The thought of Candy not being able to bring herself to reciprocate a hug, one of the most important shows of bonding between two people, was just sheer despair for the still-learning mother. She did not have the advantage of having young children for a very long time. Sasha grew almost immediately and her physical and mental maturity demanded she be treated like a young adult, even though she was only toddler’s aged. Xara was not accustomed to these arguments. She did not have the security of knowing that the fight would eventually end and everything would be okay. She did not know that with Candy or with Sasha, and so every threat to move out was taken in literal seriousness.
But Candy did reciprocate, if only briefly. Xara’s entire body relaxed, ears to tail, as Candy tightened a grip on her shoulders and gave them a squeeze. Hugs were good. Hugs were really good. Xara let her arms fall to her side again when Candy pulled away from the embrace and her soft green eyes, still slightly pleading and hopeful, smiled at the blue-haired woman. “I will stay” she said. Xara almost jumped in joy. She hugged the girl again and wrapped her tail around them both. “I am so glad for this.” Xara said earnestly, giving the woman a fond kiss on the forehead before breaking the hug again. She cocked her head to the side and gave a slight giggle.
“Oh yes he is very taken by you. Many people in their right minds would be: you, too, are sweet. And funny.” She brushed a strand of hair from Candy’s eyes and tucked it behind her ear, “And beautiful, leg or no leg. Do not be so ashamed by how you look. On my planet you would be seen as a great warrior! Scars were, as you say, very sexy. Not so much at first while they were healing…or if they get infected and ooze…things.” She shuddered, “but later on when they are healed scars are very attractive, as were missing limbs.” She grinned, “You would be a real heart-throb on my home world I think.” Xara winked slyly, picked up the necklace, and put it around Candy’s head so it rested neatly on her chest, “If Rasha did not wish to have a chance with you he would not have offered you a necklace. Especially not this one. He likely made this one for himself to wear; he loves the sun. If he gave it to you, he must really like you.” She explained. Xara sat back and examined the necklace. It really did look nice on the girl. “Candy.” Xara said in all seriousness, “Do not be so concerned about whether or not he wishes to be your mate. Let him be your friend first, and other stuff will come later.” she hugged the girl again, “Although sooner than you might think, because I think you are both having similar doubts. But anyway, spend some time with him. There is no need to rush things: enjoy it, savor it.”
Xara said this with a twinge of inner sadness, repressed by sheer force of will. She would outlive her love by hundreds of life times, assuming nothing happened. Dylan was human and had mere sixty or seventy years left on his life. Xara would have to, one day, deal with the fact that he would die. He would die and she would live on, find another mate perhaps, and have more children. But how could she move on every time a mate died of old age, and she watched them wither first in body then in mind? Every single time, for years and years…! It was a torturous thought. A thought she pushed aside. A thought she vowed never to let anyone know of its existence. She loved Dylan with all her heart and she would until the day he died, and then for thousands of years after that. Despite however many mates she took, she would always think of him, pray to him, talk to his gravesite. She would bring him flowers, bask in the sunshine with his headstone, and cry to it when she needed comfort. But it would never be the same, she thought, and the comfort would come from the imprint Dylan left on her heart, not the belief that he heard her sorrows and wished her well from wherever his soul had gone to; and she would never hear his voice or feel the comfort of his warm touch again. Xara sighed heavily and shook herself.
“Come let us go see Rasha.” She said with a forced smile, “I bet he thinks we have taken a nap!” A nap sounded pretty darn good right about then actually. She yawned and stretched, “Oh dear! A nap sounds really nice actually.” She admitted sheepishly, standing and offering her hand to Candy. “Come: he worries about you.”
Rasha jumped up from his seat and wrung his hands nervously as Candy and Xara emerged, both teary eyed, but looking rather alright. He grinned, “Is everything okay now?”
“Everything is okay.” Xara said happily. Rasha grinned and strode up to Candy, giving her a big bear-hug. “I am so glad!” he said, pulling away, “I do not like domestics.” He admitted, “but I am glad you figured it out. I am sorry,” he admitted, mostly apologizing to Candy, “I was wrong in leaving Xara and Sasha and I kind of deserved to be yelled at for that; it was not a very smart or responsible thing for me to do, and I think I did it out of spite to Edison and Xara, not knowing what might happen. I didn’t think about it. But I plan on sticking around for a long time now; I don’t plan on leaving any time soon. I have family, and friends,” he grinned Candy, “here now.”
Rasha flicked his ears, “So?” he quipped happily, as if nothing had ever happened. “Now what? Are we still hungry? I’m starved!” “Gods Rasha, you are always hungry!” Xara flicked him with the tip of her tail, grinning, “Why don’t you and Candy go out and get us some groceries. Dylan and I were going to when he got home, but you can go out and get yourselves a treat if you like. We’ll visit Tara and Azure when Azure is home from work,” Xara promised, “I will see if Tara wants to stay here for a while and have Azure meet us. Sound like fun? Rasha you are more than welcome to stay for supper.” Xara offered with a grin, casting sidelong glances at Candy. Rasha, ever clueless, beamed,
“Okay! That sounds like fun. We can have a friend date!” he took Candy’s hand gently, “Where do you want to go first? Lady’s choice!”

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]What a turn of events! Candy could honestly say that when she woke this morning, she would not have expected that any of this would happen in such a short space of time. It had hurt her a great deal to think that she was not as welcome in the only real home she'd ever known, and had originally felt quite welcomed into as she'd thought. Then as Xara asked her to stay, it was a real head-spin. What should she have decided? For now, she supposed the best thing to do was just go with it. She would probably be making it a lot easier on herself that way.
Candy could feel her face heat up as Xara then went on to tell her that she believed that Rasha was quite taken by her, as well as tell her that she was sweet, and funny. What she hadn't expected to be told was that she was beautiful. In the past she had been called unique, even intriguiing to a few but rarely beautiful. She knew she wasn't unnatractive, but even since she began school, no guys seemed to have found her even remotely attractive. Though she neither found any of them particularly appealing either.
It wasn't that she was ashamed of how she looked, either. But she was certainly a little self concious. Strange that she'd feel that way since this was the only way she'd ever seen herself, for as long as she could recall.
While Xara told her a little about her planet, Candy mused to herself. If it was true that Xara's species found scars attractive, imagine what a male would think of a missing leg. Memory or no memory, it had been a terrible shock to wake up and realise that you only had one leg.
Once she awoke, the doctors had informed her she was getting a prothesis. Fr all intents and purposes, it was a real leg, they had said. And, given the healthy condition she had been in prior to her othe procedures, she could theoretically regain full use of it.
Theoretically being the key word. Candy had no leg! How on Earth did they expect she would regain full use of something's that was not there anymore? A prosthesis is an artificial limb, they had explained. She was getting a leg back. Candy had never been told much - if anything at all - about her life before this one she knew, but they had told her that they hadn't been given much choice in regards to taking the leg. It was either that, or her life. She'd had to learn to accept that. But she still didn't see the leg as her own. It was just this thing made of steel and blue plastic. Sure it had dexterity, the heel part even mimicked a real biological ankle, making her gait more natural looking.
Although she had slowly come to accept that the prosthesis was there, she could not help but wish for something better. There had been many advancements in prosthetics over the last few years; they could make it move, feel and almost look indistinguishable from a real limb. It took an operation - and a large sum of money - to achieve, but it was something that Candy had been saving towards, in secrecy. It was something she wanted to earn for herself, and so far, she was almost 2/3 of the way there.
It was the large "autopsy scar" which had often been a bit of a thorn in her side when it came to the rare sunny days where she could have had an oppertunity to wear a tank top outdoors. All other times she wore only a long sleeve, a jumper, or shirt. From the way Xara was talking, it sounded as if Candy would be considered something similar to model-like beauty on her planet. A "heart throb" as Xara put it.
Candy continued to blush, moving some more of her hair out of the way as Xara placed the necklace back around her head. She looked at it closely again, admiring it not only for it's beauty now, but for what Xara thought it may represent. "If Rasha did not wish to have a chance with you he would not have offered you a necklace. Especially not this one. He likely made this one for himself to wear; he loves the sun. If he gave it to you, he must really like you.”[/b] "Candy.” Xara's tone was suddenly more serious again. Candy looked at her intently, unsure of where the conversation was heading now. After al it had taken some very dramatic turns all morning. “Do not be so concerned about whether or not he wishes to be your mate. Let him be your friend first, and other stuff will come later.” She wrapped her arms around her again, in another hug. This time, Candy accepted the hug with less hessitation. “Although sooner than you might think, because I think you are both having similar doubts. But anyway, spend some time with him. There is no need to rush things: enjoy it, savor it.”"I will." She said with a smile. She couldn't promise that she wouldn't hope Rasha would show some sign sooner rather than later, of course. But if it was a friendship he wanted, then she was sure she could at least try and calm the growing emotions she was experiencing towards him. She nodded her assent as Xara suggested they return to the lounge area, taking her hand as she helped her off the bed, but not before stifling a yawn of her own. She had no idea why it was that yawns were so contagious. There were many popular misconceptions when it came to yawns; being tired, or too much oxygen in your lungs. Apparently the reason you yawn is because your body has built up too much carbon dioxide and needs to release it. Especially when you are in a resting state; such as sitting, or laying down. It had little to nothing to do with being tired. As for the contagious part? It seemed to be a psychosomatic effect. Basically, you see someone yawn, and you feel compelled to yawn, too. Some things in biology are just quirky that way, or we just don't understand them well enough yet. "I just want to clean up my face a bit," she sniffled a little, despite the fact she'd stopped crying. After wiping away the tear-streaks from her face, and blowing her nose Candy then felt ready enough to go back downstairs. ----- Once downstairs, Candy suddenly felt a little self-concious upon finding her gaze upon Rasha again. In some way she felt embarassed by what had happened, another felt sorry for him that he'd had to witness all of what had happened earlier. She felt confused by this strange feeling that she wanted to impress him, or that she'd already let herself down in some way when it came to having any chance at something... more. Oh but there she was thinking too much into it; exactly what she said she'd try not to do. It was easier said that done, but she knew she'd have to try. Better having a friendship with Rasha than nothing at all, right? Still, as Rasha swept in and gave her a large hug, Candy she couldnt help but want it to last more than those 2-3 seconds a friend-hug usually lasted. His enthusiasm was indeed contagious though, and Candy soon found herself smiling again. "It's okay," Candy smiled a little shyly as she added. "As long as you'll stick around."At the mention of food, her empty stomach swirmed and grumbled. "Well my stomach is empty again," she said a little sheepishly. But as Xara suggested the two of them head out and buy some groceries, Candy's smile widened. "Sure, we can do that," her voice more eager than it had been before. "The store is only a few blocks away too, it's not far. We'll pick something good." The idea of going to see Tara and Azure was appealing as well. Although Candy did not know many of Xara's friends very well at all, she still enjoyed their company, especially the two vampires. Much to Candy's surprise, Rasha placed his hand around hers. She smiled, trying to mask her joy at the fact his hand was now in such close proximity as her own. "I'm happy with whatever," she said, a little lost now. "But I uh," she lookedf at Xara with a large smile now. "I have my mobile phone if you need me to get anything in particular."By the time Dylan entered the house, the first thing he did was yawn, and head towards the kitchen to make himself a coffee. "Xara?" he called out, knowing that she would probably be the only one home, with the exception of Candy, perhaps. It seemed that Sasha was with Craven most of the time now, so it wasn't uncommon for her to be out. They had all made a good little family here, he mused. Not in his wildest dreams had Dylan thought he was even remotely attractive to women, let alone find that one wanted to move in with him. He never thought he'd have children either, and here he was, de-facto father to one, and growing very fond to another. whom he was coming to see as a daughter in some way. Despite everything that had happened with Edison, it did not change how Dylan felt about Sasha. He still loved her very dearly, and it his eyes, he was in all purposes, her father. Edison wasn't the one who helped her with her homework, or greeted her after school. He had not helped nurse Sasha back to health after the incident with the facility, or after what Ed had done to Hadrian either. Dylan also loved Xara very much. She was the woman he wanted to give himself to both heart and soul. He'd marry her, if that was what she wanted as well. Though, as relaxed and comfortable as he was with their relationship, he wasn't brave enough to ask quite yet. Maybe a little further down the track, once all of the other uncertainty had calmed down. "I requested a few days off of work," He continued as he tinkered with the coffee-maker, despite not knowing exactly where Xara would turn up from. "That Doctor Snare woman offered to take a few of my cases again. I suspect it might have more to do with... y'know the fact Tara found out that the woman is dating her father. He retrieved a coffee mug from the cupboard. "But enough of that," he turned around, still unsure of where she was. Uncertainly, he looked around, leaving the kitchen and passing the staircase. "Xara? You are at home right?"[/size] [glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

“I think I like this one the best still.” Rasha said as he peered at himself in a small mirror perched atop the hat-rack. He grinned and pulled a face at Candy in the mirror, wearing a black feathered cap that had holes cut into it for people with ears. He never really wore hats because of his ears, but there had been a small push to create clothing for people with ears and tails. He had a few pairs of jeans that had a tail-hole pre-cut into them by the manufacturer, although he still liked wearing his skirts more; they seemed less constricting. He turned to face his blue-haired companion and curtsied comically, “What do you think? I do look quite dashing in this cap don’t I?” Rasha joked. He grinned and twirled in his skirt, receiving a few dark and confused looks from other shoppers. People were not as accepting of his unique style-sense as he would have hoped, although it did not really matter to him if someone thought he “ought to” dress a certain way. Why couldn’t he wear skirts? There was no law aganst it. Human males just never did. For someone who came from a planet where clothes were not mandatory Rasha thought they should be grateful he decided to wear clothes at all! Although, that actually was a law, much to Rasha’s chagrin. He did enjoy playing around with his wardrobe though.
Rasha was used to people being cruel to him but, unlike Xara, he took a more laid-back approach. It was because of this that Rasha was harassed a lot less than his hot-headed cousin. Rasha’s approach was more “oh you’re going to be mean to me? Well that’s dumb” and that would be the end of it. His adversaries normally did not know how to react, and usually got bored and gave up shortly after. In that case ignorance—or, rather, obliviousness—was bliss. A few tough looking customers looked as if they wanted to give him a hard time for his choice in dress but, for some reason, decided against it. Rasha did not notice them, though the couple, a man and a woman, kept a close eye on Rasha and Candy.
Rasha placed the hat back on its hook and skipped over to Candy happily, taking her hand again. “Okay enough goofing around: grocery shopping is serious business.” He pulled a serious face and dropped his voice low, “If we don’t focus the tied up veggies and plastic-wrapped meats might run away. Make no sudden movements!” he grinned impishly. “Although,” he let his voice bounce back to normal, “I do miss hunting. Have you ever hunted? We should go sometime. I like fishing the best because then you can just sit back and relax. I like water because it reflects the sun nicely. Sometimes I would carve on that light it would be so intense! Although my world was slightly closer to our sun than yours and our moons were much brighter too.” He scratched his head, “Hobart is the closest I have seen yet to what my home used to look like, and it is not even close to the real thing. I wish I could show it to you, you might really enjoy it. It is a bit rough…Xara is not a farfetched character-product. Her life was especially difficult though, and she had a hard time here on Earth as well. I had it easy on both accounts.” He nodded, “But Xara was well-loved, and she enjoyed her work in the end. It was just…” he thought for the word for a moment, “er, stressful.”
Rasha found a cart and began to push it along, leaning on its handle. He sighed heavily, “I built houses. I liked that a lot. My mother did it and her mother before. My father and grandfather were low-ranking warriors. Social status is inherited through the women in each family in the tribe, and the tribe was around a couple hundred people. We were a large tribe.” He grinned, “Speaking of tribes and families… you are young to be away from yours, are you not? Do you mind me asking why…?” He drifted closer to her so their shoulders touched, a sign of comfort. He did not mean to be intrusive at all. “You don’t have to answer of course. I was just wondering—I am simply interested in where you came from, that is all, and if you don’t want to say then you don’t have to. The same goes for any questions I ask you: the last thing I want to do is make you uncomfortable.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Xara retreated to her bedroom and wrapped herself in her blanket when Rasha and Candy left. She was expecting Dylan home soon and she had wished to have her cry before he saw her in such a sorry state. She was afraid that Dylan had seen her at her weakest moments much too much for her liking and she wanted him to know that she was at least a functioning adult who was not so prone to frivolous acts such as crying. She understood its usefulness of course and, being the hypocrite she was, encouraged others to let themselves do so to help ease and cope with their sadness and worries. But Xara was a leader-figure and to cry was to show weakness. She wanted to be strong for her mate and her family. Dylan could never know about her fears for their future. She was mortified when he came home and she was still not yet finished her “cry-session”.
The thought of losing Sasha, Candy, and then Dylan was just crippling. Since Sasha was alright for the moment, and things between her and Candy were also alright although slightly shaky, all she had to worry about now was Dylan. Xara allowed herself a selfish moment to wish Dylan would try to find a way to match Xara’s lifespan but she could not bring herself to be so vain as to ask. The only way she could see it working for sure was if he was turned into a vampire or some were-creature, and she couldn’t ask him to change his entire species just for her; she had fallen in love with a human, and would just have to live with it. But one day Dylan would die…Xara would attend his funeral in the black garb of a widow, and watch as the human’s lowered him into the Earth in the customary way. The thought made her heart shrivel in protest.
When she heard the door open Xara threw the blanket off of herself and ran to their master-bathroom that was joined to their bedroom to wash the sadness off her face. She did as best as she could and inhaled very deeply to try to flush the redness from her eyes, but she knew he would be able to tell. Perhaps she could fake allergies?
“Xara? You are at home right?"
“Yes!” Xara called from the upstairs, then hurried down to greet her mate. She hugged him tightly, warmly, and kissed him in a more intimate way than usual, lingering longer in the closeness of his touch. She sighed, “I do not like that Snare woman.” She said darkly. Perhaps it was simply a personality clash? “Shouldn’t you find someone else? Wouldn’t Tara be seen as a—oh—um,” Xara sighed in frustration, searching for the phrase, “Conflict of interest?”
Xara was well aware of Azure’s opinion of the woman, and Xara always took Azure’s side; she trusted the vampire’s judgment. Xara shrugged, “Although if you think she is good enough then I am sure she is good. I’m not going to complain about being able to spend more time with you.” Xara pressed herself into his front and wrapped her arms around his neck, swaying back and forth flirtatiously, “We haven’t had a decent night alone in a while…” she grinned and rubbed her head against his chin, “Oh!” she pulled away and took his hands, “My cousin, Rasha, is coming over for dinner tonight. Candy met him in the park and saw a resemblance and took him here to meet me, I was slightly surprised to see him.” She looked into his eyes and smiled sadly, trying to store away every detail. “How was your day?”

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]Candy had barely stopped smiling since she and Rasha began their walk towards the shopping center. It was easier to find a reason to smile now that it was just the two of them. Though even now she felt anxious that something would come along and taint the mood.
People had not stopped gawking at them since they left the house, though that was not something Candy was not used to by now. She already attracted attention in thanks to her unique hair, and pale skin tone. But since she began living with Sasha and her parents, she realised just how much more attention they added. With Xara and Sasha looking as they did were obvious, as well as Dylan being fairly well known at the hospital now, plus Candy - and hopefully Rasha - they were a living attraction of sorts.
It didn't seem to bother Rasha in the slightest though. In fact he didn't seem to mind at all that people were looking. He almost looked as though he enjoyed it.
So would you, if you were him. Don’t lie. Yes, you, the one in the back, pointing at yourself and shaking your head in disbelief. It's obvious people often enjoy having a sticky-beak at people who are different, because everyone does. Even the people who dress, or behave differently. It's a kind of empowering thing. It's one of the reasons they do what they do. Still not sold on the idea? Let's put it in perspective for you: when you’re on the subway, what do you do? Look around you, see people. When you’re sitting outside at a café, what do you do? Look around you, see people. When you’re, oh, I don’t know, standing in front of a hat stand in a shopping center, displaying obvious amusement at the fact that your new friend is trying on rediculous hats, twirling around and showing it off, what do you do? Look around, se—okay, have I made my point yet? Moral of story: like it or not, you people watch, people watch you, and you enjoy it too.
Rasha was obviously enjoying it. And to be honest, Candy kinda was too.
"You should definately get that hat," She giggled, standing on her toes to tap it with an index finger as she ignored a glare from another shopper. The hat really did suit him. All of the hat's he'd tried on suited him. This particular one reminded her of some swashbuckler or Zorro type. Plus with the ear-holes, it seemed practically made for him. "Very dashing," She added, with another little giggle.
She would have been tempted to buy it for him, herself as a thanks for giving her the necklace he had made, but as he put it back on the rack she was unsure of whether or not he trully wanted it. Though she was not given much of a chance to mull it over as Rasha then proceeded to take her hand. A small 'oh' escaped her lips in surpise, and she glanced around her, smiling shyly as a few of the other shoppers glanced and peered their way while she and Rasha focused on their groceries.
"Oh I agree," Candy tittered as Rasha jokingly told her that grocery shopping was serious business, and that their food may run off if they were not careful. "I've had oranges try and run from me before." This was actually true, except for the running part... a few actually tried to roll away from her one day as she was placing some shopping into an ex-roommates car. One or two had gotten squished by a passing car. Let that be a lesson to the rest of them!
"I've never hunted before," She assumed, feeling a mild shiver at the thought. If she didn't like the thought of it now, she concluded that she hadn't done it in her 'past life' either. "Personally, I enjoy food a fair bit more if I know I haven't seen it's face. Fishing though," She tried to think back and try to remember a time she may have done such a thing. "I'd probably give that a try. Seafood's pretty good actually; like freshly cooked snapper, or deep-fried squid," She 'mmm'ed'.
Listening contently as she put bits and pieces into a shopping cart which Rasha began to push along, Candy was facinated with everything Rasha told her of his planet. As he spoke, she could picture the things he was telling her. She could almost see him sitting somewhere on a strange planet, carving some wonderful piece of art under the bright, warm sun. Two moons? Just imagine that! What were the moon cycles like, she wondered. How brightly did they light up the sky?
If it was anything like Hobart, Candy knew she'd enjoy it there. "It sounds magical," She mused, and as Rasha continued, he reminded her how different he was compared to the woman who had given her shelter. What had happened to Xara which made her turn into the woman she is today.
He then went on to tell her about what he would do for a living. It pleased her to learn that he had always seemed like the creative type if he'd built houses on his planet. From the way he described it, she also had the impression that women of his species possibily held the same belief that many men did on Earth; that they were the more superior gender. Especially if the women ranked higher than the men.
"That's facinating!" She beamed, keenly interested and wanting to know more. But then it appeared it was his turn to question her. And of course walking in such close proximity wasn't helping either. She could feel her cheeks heating up as their arms touched. She too was touched that Rasha added that she had the choice of whether or not to answer him though. It was very thoughtful, though so far, she was not surprised. He'd been nothing but chivalrous since they'd met.
Maybe that's why she decided to talk about it. Repay the openness he'd expressed towards her. "No, no. It's fine. It's just that I don't know why I'm not with my family." Candy answered, glancing around briefly, making sure there were no eavesdroppers. They seemed in the clear, but regardless, she lowered her voice a pitch. "I'm not even sure I have one. About a year ago I woke up in the hospital. I don't remember anything before that." Her forhead creased slightly. She hadn't even spoken to Xara, or Sasha very much about it. "I was just told by the doctors that I had been in a coma for a while. It was a car accident or something. They hadn't been able to identify the guy who had been driving."
Candy then looked up at Rasha, suddenly feeling a little awkward. "Xara, Dylan and Sasha took me in since things weren't working out with my previous roommates." She felt as though she may have spoilt some buzz. "Have you ever thought about...y'know if it was possible to go back to your planet, would you do it?" She added, not wishing to create a silence.
Dylan was almost aphrensive to search for Xara, which seemed silly, considering this was his house as well. What was he afraid of finding? Or not finding. Ever since the mess with the Facility, and what happened between Sasha and Hadrian, and the over-time he'd been putting in for Azure and Tara, plus other patients, Dylan was exausted. He'd feel terrible coming home, and just wanting to go straight to bed, or pass out on the couch.
It was important to him that he not forget his girls, and the more he felt he'd been unwillingly neglecting them, the more guilty he'd feel, and anxious in his imagination that whenever the house was quiet, there may be something wrong. With a house full of three women (two being young girls too), you'd expect a little mayhem. Even the dog seemed quiet, wherever he was. Dylan's imagination went into overdrive. When he had called out, he was sure the anxiety must have been obvious.
“Yes!” Xara's voice could be heard from upstairs, and a few moment later he could hear the sound of her footsteps hurrying down to meet him. He sighed in relief as she came into view, and as she rushed into his arms, he held her close, relishing in the closeness, and warmth, an scent which was uniquely Xara. Their lips met, and he responded in kind to the intimacy of the moment, cupping the side of her face.
Once they parted, Dylan looked into her eyes with a sappy expression on his face, which faltered only slightly as he realised she looked a little... different than usual. The corners of her eyes had a pinkish tone to them, and so did the tip of her nose. Had she been crying?
Xara told him that she was not keen on 'that Snare woman'. Dylan valued Xara's judgement very much, but so far Citole had been nothing but helpful. To take on more patients even with her busy scheduel was commendable. Of course he did not want to dissagree with Xara. Even now that a couple of months had passed since what happened between Sasha and Hadrian, Dylan was still afraid of being put back 'into the dog-house'.
"Well... She's not only just taken Tara's case. She offered to uh, take over a few more until I return." He thought about it. "She's been well-respected amongst our colleagues for years now." He was also pleased as she did not seem put off by his opinion of the woman. Azure had also pulled Dylan aside at one point and asked him what his impression of the woman was. He told her the same thing he just told Xara. He respected her as a colleague, and knew that so far she had a flawless record. He could not understand why the two women seemed so put off by her.
"I've missed you," He told her, kissing the top of her head, beside her ear as she pressed herself closer into him. They swayed to and fro together for a moment, and Dylan smiled to himself as she then confirmed that they were in fact alone for the time being. News of Xara's cousin certainly came as a surprise! "Dinner? Oh, of course! I had no idea you had a cousin here," Dylan added, a little dissapointed he hadn't been told about him before.
He suddenly felt a little nervous. Getting to know Xara, they'd had no choice but to skip the formalities of meeting the parents, seeing as neither of them had any present to meet. He'd loved little Sasha right away, but what if this Rasha did not approve? It was a little late for that really. Dylan shouldn't feel nervous at all, he reasoned with himself. Just time to suck it up and stress less about it.
"The day was long," Dylan admitted as Xara asked him how it was. "But having a few days off is definately worth it. Especially those spent alone with the woman I love." He kissed her forhead as he heard the coffee maker allert him that it was done. "Do you want a mug?" he offered as he poured himself some. "You seem... more flustered than what I normally am." He added with a wry smile, trying to pass it off as a bit of light humor.[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Rasha could not possibly imagine waking up with no memory of something, least of all something as big as a car accident. He felt slightly bad for Candy (though not in a patronizing kind of way) that she had to live through all this mystery about her past life. He hoped that she would be able to find out soon, if she wanted to find out at all, what her parents were like or what her life was like before the accident. Did she even have parents? Who knew! Rasha surely did not. He flicked her kindly with the tip of his tail, encouraging her as she told him her story, as if to say ‘it is alright, I accept you despite what you have told me’, and it was true, because Rasha felt only a stronger bond between them as she spoke. When she was finished with her story, and asked her question, Rasha leaned on the handle of the shopping cart and pushed it along in silence for a few seconds, digesting all that he had just heard. Rasha was the kind of person to think before he leapt, something his cousin was not particularly known for.
He turned to Candy after a moment and smiled, “Your life sounds like a marvelous adventure.” He told her, “Are you happy with Xara, Dylan and Sasha? Xara is happy you are there. Sometimes she does not do a very good job of showing it,” he coughed slightly, “but she is. I can sense it through our link. But I think she worries, she always worries. She carries the whole world on her shoulder sometimes I think. It isn’t very healthy, you know, but she does. She needs to learn to relax. Perhaps you can teach her how to be less…” he waved his hand thoughtfully, “tense.” He flashed her a disarming smile and turned down the fresh produce section, looking down at the list Xara had given them. Her writing had improved massively, he reflected, proud for his cousin’s achievements. If he was none the wiser he would have guessed it was written by the hand of a genuine human. Rasha picked out some of items on the list and put them into the cart as he walked slowly forward, considering Candy’s question carefully.
“Would I go home…” he murmured. His ears twitched. “I don’t think I would, no. I do miss it,” he added, “But Xara and Sasha are here, and I have a life here. If I could visit I would. I wasn’t really high on the social ladder, y’know what I mean? Warriors—like Xara—were much more valued because they could protect the tribe. Makes sense to me, but doesn’t mean I’m happy about it. Back home I was scorned at and laughed at because I couldn’t fight. I can fight, I just don’t like to. I like to make things instead, like jewlerry. I became something of a blacksmith, making weapons for people in the tribe. I made all of Xara’s tools. She praised me in front of the entire tribe whenever I made her a new one, and so my status went up slightly. It helps being the close cousin of the tribe’s future leader.” He smirked. “But here I get paid well, people respect me for art, if not for my species, and I get on very nicely in my apartment. I think I have it pretty good here to be honest, and I’m not really a man of extravagance you know. I like the simpler things. Though I do treat myself from time to time.” He grinned and tossed some apples into the cart and kept walking.
“Do you think Candy is your real name? Or were you able to choose? I think if I got to choose my name I’d be an Albert or something. I’ve heard that I look like I could be an Albert. I think you suit your name, but if I were to give you one from my home planet I think I’d say…” he stroked his chin thoughtfully, considering her for a moment. “Hm.” He wanted to give her the perfect name. He grinned and snapped his fingers, “Got it,” He said, “If I were to name you for my home world I would say it would be,” he smiled, “Dje’mae. It is the name of a particularly beautiful river on my home world, which is said to contain the spirit of a famous warrior who, when he refused to kill out of cold blood, was drowned there by his tribe leader. The man, Dje’, is a hero in our legends. We sacrifice to him every time the river is low, just before it swells again in our spring-time.” He explained with a smile, “I think it is a fitting name. He was a courageous, kind man, according to legends. Eyes as blue as your hair….” Rasha wandered through the aisles, looking closely at the list Xara had given him. He shoved it in Candy’s face, “Do you even know what that says?”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Xara grinned and pressed her face into the crook of Dylan’s neck, muttering “I’ve missed you too,” softly as she settled into his embrace. She giggled and pulled away when he mentioned that he didn’t know Rasha was here. “I didn’t know Rasha was here either,” she reminded him. Rasha’s appearance was sure a surprise, anyway. She noticed Dylan’s nervousness. “Do not worry, Rasha will like you. Maybe a bit too much—you two will get on famously, I’m sure. Sasha will have three kinds of fits when she finds out uncle Rasha is back. They were close when she was younger. Then he left to go…” she pulled a face and waved her hand dismissively, “Find himself, I suppose, just before you and I met. Then we had to leave so soon and…well, we never got in touch again. He met Candy in the park and she mentioned my name. She and I had an argument today.” She said, as if that explained her tenseness. She took a cup of coffee and sat the island in the middle of the kitchen where they usually spoke and ate light meals. Her tail hang limply behind her and her ears drooped as she sighed, “I was harsh with her and she almost left. I lost my temper. I do not know why—I think it may be my reproductive cycle again. It comes every once in a while, usually when I’m in a good emotional or mental state. Things with Edison have calmed down, Sasha is doing alright, and I’m in a relationship with a man that would possibly yield children. So my body is getting ready I suppose. Not that I would like any more children at the moment,” she added, “I mean… not that I wouldn’t like having children with you but I mean we’ve got Sasha and Candy and I thought perhaps we could wait until they graduate and move out…”
There it was: moving out again. Xara sighed heavily and shrugged her shoulders, “Dylan I don’t know what to do with her: Candy. She almost moved out today and I was so scared she would. I should have stood my ground but the thought of her leaving was too much. I feel like I may have ruined any relationship she and I may have had.” Xara admitted, “I am afraid to do anything now. I can’t let her go back to her old apartment. I fear they were very bad to her there and I couldn’t let that happen to her again. She’s already been used by cruel science, and she’s being studied.” The word felt like venom on her tongue and she almost spat, “I know it is against her will because if it wasn’t she would be with her own family whoever they are.” Xara’s tail quivered with anger and she sipped her coffee thoughtfully. She sighed, “Do you think maybe we should help her find them?”

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]“Your life sounds like a marvelous adventure.” Candy looked at Rasha with some confusion. Well, that was certainly one way of looking at it. Would not have been her first choice in words, but it had already been established that her new friend was a very unique individual.
Yes, Candy was happy with Xara, Dylan and Sasha. She was forever grateful to the three of them for everything they'd done for her. Although, as of this morning she was questioning her place under their roof. A part of Candy knew very well that Xara did care, but another part of her was now wary... she wanted to be sure to be careful of what she said from now on if she wished to maintain what relationship she had left with Xara on the off chance she may over-step some boundary, perhaps. Then again, Rasha said that his sister cared. Candy did not fully understand the link in which their species shared, but she knew that it was a type of psychic ability they had inherited through evolution.
It must feel so strange to have another person delve into your own mind, and read your thoughts. From what Candy understood, it could be a dangerous practice if not done with care, and there were certain boundaries, and barriers. The closer you were with a person, the stronger the link; Xara and Azure shared a strong link, in thanks to their bond in friendship since their time spent together at the facility in Miami. Sasha and Hadrian shared a very strong link as well. Though theirs grew in strength after Sasha ressurected him. It was that link they shared in the first place which very well saved Hadrian's life, so to speak, and even now they were trying to come to terms with the uniqueness of their situation.
Candy knew she had her own bond with Sasha, but the thought of having anyone reach into her head was a daunting one. It wasn't that she had much to hide, but number one) a teenager had her secrets, and two) she was afraid that if there was the slightest chance anyone were able to find out even a little bit about her past, she may not like what she hears. If she was so unnecessarily concerned about her own past, could Candy teach Xara to be less tense? She didn't know where she would begin. She did not mean that in a cruel way, oh no! Candy just wasn't sure of what may help and what would not. How would one relate to a help a high-strung tribal alien princess become less tense? She'd need to get back on that one.
As Rasha then went on to reply to her question, Candy felt her own self tense up, until he told her that even if given the oppertunity, he had no intention to go back to his home planet. At least not to live, he assured her. Candy felt a wave of relief sweep over her. If not just because she was glad he was here, but because it seemed that he had made himself a better life on Earth. He seemed better off, and happier here than what he would have been on his own planet. Candy disliked that he was percieved as anything less than what she saw him as. In her eyes, she could see him doing no wrong. "I'm glad you're here," She admitted, with a shy smile. "I'm glad we're friends."
"My real name is actually Candice," She admitted, tucking some of her hair away from her face. "Candice McNiel. Candy is just a nickname." With a chuckle, she added. "I like Albert. It's an... interesting choice." In a way it would have suited him though. Rasha was a nice name, and uncommon enough but Candy saw no reason as to why Rasha could not change his name if he chose to do so. After all she couldn't see the name "Hadrian" being very popular on any other planet but Earth. Even on Earth it was considered unique. So obviously, even Xara's alien friend had decided to opt for a less extraterrestrial name than the one he was born with on his own planet.
Candy was flattered that Rasha thought that her name suited him, but even more so as he then began to tell her what he'd call her if she was to have a name from his own home planet. He seemed to put some thought into it at first, as they continued to walk through the grocery store isles. Every so often they'd put something into the trolley. “Dje’mae," is what he decided on. Candy repeated the name several times in her head, trying to memorize both it and the pronounciation quickly. Flattered wasn't great enough a word to explain how she was feeling. She felt honored that he'd even considered "naming" her. The meaning of the name was the icing on the cake. She couldn't think of a sweeter thing to name a person after; a river. The story both shocked, and facinated her as well. "Dje was honorable to refuse to kill the person," Candy voiced, grinning. "I'm honored you'd even consider saying that you'd name me after him."
They wondered in silence for a few more steps before Candy found the list Xara had given them was thrust towards her face. “Do you even know what that says?” Candy looked closely at the words written in pen on the thin paper. Xara's handwriting was fairly neat, and the spelling was accurate enough. Looking at the particular word he was reffering to, Candy squinted at it as if it'd make the words clearer. "Couliflour," she read. "See? You pronounce it like Coll-E-Flower." She pronounced it phonetically. "The U beside the O is silent. English is a complicated language at times," she added wryly.
"How long did it take you to learn the English language?" She asked curiously, picking up a few items. "You're really good at it. Xara is too, but when she speaks she sounds very... formal. You have an interesting accent, but you speak English almost perfectly."
Dylan didn't mean to be as socially awkward as he was. Growing up, he had always been peculiar; not the sort of person someone could immediately warm to. He was just a little too different for peoples liking, and it was something that Dylan had come to reluctantly accept. When he and Xara became an item, he'd thought it was nothing shorter than a miracle. Both she, and Sasha were blessings in his life. They were proof to him that not only could someone warm to such an eccentric, reclusive nerd, but they could love him too.
Acceptance was something which Dylan had craved since he was a boy, but never thought he'd ever had the oppertunity to enjoy. He loved Xara and Sasha very dearly so it was important to him that he gain the approval of her friends, and her family. In regards to connecting with the others, he seemed to be having more trouble with than the guys than the girls. Sage was a kind young woman, and Tara was both sweet and earnest. Hadrian and Azure were both very fortunate to have the two of them in their lives. Dylan felt that he had connected with Tara and Azure in some way during the time he'd spent with the girls helping Tara get pregnant. He had witnessed the excitement, joy, fears and hope. He'd put also lot of his spare time into making sure that everything was alright with the pregnancy, and he knew that his help was appreciated.
As for the boys, Dylan wasn't sure if it would be possible to forge anything beyond an aquaintanceship with Edison what with everything happening with Sasha. Not that Dylan did not want a friendship with Edison, but with him being Sasha's biological father, he was afraid that she may feel that she was being put into a possition where he felt she needed to choose sides.
Even Quam, who was probably one of the most idiosyncratic, approachable beings Dylan had ever met, he felt he had trouble forming a friendship with him. A lot of it had to do with insecurities and irrational thought of course. But another part of him wondered if he really was as unnaproachable as he often felt he was. Unless of course it had to do with anything to do with his assistance in the medical field.
Hadrian was at least (reluctantly) compliant to Dylan's observations when he'd decided to pay regular visits, though he suspected the only reason he'd come anywhere close to forming an amitable relationship between the two of them was because of his persistance. Social phobia aside, Dylan never let it get in the way of his work.
Rasha was probably young, from what Dylan could guess simply judging from the way Xara said that he'd gone off to "find himself" as most young beings tended to do under various circumstances. Since Xara's brother had not been mentioned before, it made Dylan wonder whether or not he'd left under good terms or not, though he was leaning towards "not".
The doctor took a seat as Xara continued to fill him in on everything which had taken place while he was away, and was surprised as she went on to tell him that she and Candy had an argument. He'd been able to tell that something was bothering his mate the moment she embraced him, but he knew as a male it wasn't always wise to pressure a woman into admitting to anything which was bothering her while it was fresh in her mind. They would often open up in their own good time.
It did shock him though, to learn that Candy must have threatened to leave. But what could have possibly been so bad that she would even consider such a thing? The blue haired girl whom they had offered a home was considered as much a part of the family as Dylan was by now. Sasha adored her, and the doctor had even begun to think of her as another daughter.
If Xara wished to tell him more about their argument then Dylan would be all ears, but from the sounds of things, it may have also been triggered by a few different reasons, and perhaps whatever happened between the two girls had tipped his mate over the edge, so to speak. It was a great relief to know that things with Edison had calmed down. What with everything between the demon and Hadrian, and learning that Sasha was Edison's biological daughter, it was a miracle their whole group wasn't suffering from anxiety attacks and stress disorders.
It made Dylan's heart warm as Xara added the fact that she was glad to be in a relationship with him, and that she seemed happy with the fact that they could have children if they chose to do so. In all honesty, he'd thought about it. Having a child with Xara was something he'd seriously considered. He loved Sasha very much, though he knew that it would have been nice to be able to spend time with her when she was much younger. It would be nice to hold a baby, and know that it came from both himself and Xara. When she was ready, of course.
The thought of either Sasha or Candy leaving them was a daunting one. Of course he knew that if either girl moved out, they'd come back. Perhaps only to visit, but they'd know they would always have a home here if they needed it. He wanted to make sure they knew this. “Dylan I don’t know what to do with her: Candy." He wasn't sure himself, but he knew he needed to comfort his mate.
The doctor looked thoughtful as he took a sip of his coffee. The topic of Candy's biological parents was a touchy subject. In truth it hadn't actually been discussed. "Perhaps we should... well, we could ask her if it's something she would like us to help her with. I don't want her to get the wrong uh, idea though. If she has threatened to move out because of a fight you two had earlier, I don't want her thinking that we're suggesting anything. Maybe we should wait." Dylan knew he should comfort his mate, but unsure of how to go about it exactly, he simply reached out and placed a free hand over hers. It was a quiet gesture, but he hoped that it offered her some respite.
The household knew that Candy had been given a hard time at her last appartment. It was the main reason why Xara had offered her a room under their roof. It seemed so unusual that the blue haired girl was unable to remember anything of her past. From what she knew and had told them, Dylan could speculate that she may have been involved in a collision between two cars. The doctors at the time had been unable to identify the man who had been driving the car. He had not been related to Candy.
As far as parents were concerned, he found it strange that none had apparently been identified. If Sasha had been in an accident, he'd have dropped abolutely everything in order to be with her. But then, Candy had mentioned that she had woken in the compound, which explained as much as it hid away. It was very possible that Candy's parents did not even know her whereabouts, assuming they were alive. Of course none of their gang were particularly keen on getting anywhere near anything compound or facility related unless they absolutely had to. Perhaps it was time to sit down and have a discusion with the girl about everything she did remember.
With Candy's permission, Dylan had aready asked her of what she knew of her medical background. She had allowed him to take a look at her prosthesis, and told him of the chips inside of her brain. He knew of her prosthetic organs. Her eye had interested him as well. It was the autopsy scar on her chest which fascinating him the most though. An autopsy was, as everyone should know, performed on a deseased being by a pathologist. The examination could be carried out for either legal or medical purposes. The forensic autopsy would be carried out if the cause of death was a criminal matter, while a clinical or academic autopsy would be performed to find the medical cause of death for research purposes. Candy was very obviously alive and breathing. So why did it look as though someone had examined her internally?
True some of her organs had been replaced, but why did she have the Y-shaped incision from her shoulders to her lower sternum? If she were opened up like this while alive, she would have certainly died. She was alive. None of it made sense and Dylan felt ashamed that they had not shown some sort of interest in it sooner. Even running through the process of the autopsy in his mind... from using shears to removing the pesky liltte ribs which protected the vital heart and organs.
Forcing the thoughts from his mind, Dylan focused more on the present. "I think we need to find out more about her."[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

“Candice.” Rasha spoke her name in full and his ears twitched as it rolled off his tongue. “A very, very nice name, I think. “The human language is very interesting. We do not have words for many things in my language, like emotions. We use our link for those things. But we do have some words for some things because we cannot use our link for a long while when we are young. Xara could when she was young of course but she was a weird one. Her parents worried about her she always a bit…” he made a hand gesture, “different. But I was normal I think. People don’t think that now. Actually I think other people are weird. Why is there so much emphasis on clothing here? I mean do people not realize how incredibly uncomfortable pants are? It bunches.” He pulled a face, “It’s all well and fine for girls because they don’t have anything down there to get bunched up, y’know what I’m saying? But men. Sheesh. Humans made some pretty dumb fashion choices didn’t they? Not really a problem on my planet. We don’t wear clothes there often. I mean sometimes we will wear coverings, if it gets cold, but not to hide anything. Actually if we were on my planet and Xara’s mother died, everyone in our family, myself included, would wear her tail around our waist or necks, and Xara would wear her teeth around her neck like a necklace. It is a great sign of respect to wear these things when someone dies you know. Humans think it barbaric but it really would be barbaric not to.”
His tail twitched and he directed his attention to the shopping list. “Call-ee-flower.” He frowned and looked for the mysterious Earth plant. It was beautiful! “it looks poisonous.” He frowned as he stared into the basket of cauliflower. It must have been good if Xara wanted it, so he took a little plastic baggy and stuffed some of the stalks into it. “Hm. I learned English from a tutor, when I landed here on Earth. I was on Xara’s ship, though she didn’t know of course. She and I had two very different outcomes in our lives on Earth. I watched her get taken away by an inter-terrestrial slaveship. My people were not as technologically advanced as, say, you people on Earth. The people who took Xara and I make Earth look like a pack of testicle-scratching chimps. Your latest technology? They would think it cute. Our people did have a very complex social structure and our technology was simple but functional. Our architecture though was impeccable and our weaponry was certainly advanced. But anyway. So while Xara was being tested on and gained a rather, er, dark hatred for humans and their culture and learned English solely so she could speak with Azure, I was adopted by a kindly scientist as a sort of social experiment. His colleagues called my people brute savages, and he wanted to prove them wrong. So he took me into his home, taught me the ways of the humans, and their language. He was a good teacher, and he showed me a great amount of kindness in comparison. I assumed Xara had died in the crash, and I was kind of sad for a long while. But I embraced human culture in hopes of finding a new life, you know?” he smirked and picked up an impressive amount of meat from the butchers, adding up to a few hundreds of dollars. Xara really liked her meat. Rasha frowned,
“I suppose you probably think my culture rather primitive. Perhaps we were,” he shrugged, “Aristocracy came from pupil hue not from any bloodlines. If your eyes were brown like mine you were considered working class. Dispensable things we were. Eyes came in many different colours you see, like purple, red, yellow, black, white, mauve, subtle shades of this or that hue. Xara and her mother sported the green eyes of royalty. Sasha would be worshiped for it; she would lead a rather privileged life. You would be something of a spiritual leader. People with blue eyes generally were. Performing burial rites and the likes… it was an honorable profession in my world, and we honored our dead so it was important to us you see.” He nodded, then shook his head. “Oh but I’m being so rude, talking about myself all this time. It is not very gentlemanly of me.” He wheeled the cart toward the checkout and leaned on a nearby, weight bearing pole as the person in front of them fiddled with his wallet. “I would like to hear more about you, miss Candy.” He flashed her a disarming smile and flicked his hair out of his well-sculpted features. “I’ll ask a question if that helps: what do you like most about your life right now? I’ll tell you mine: I like that I’ve found my family again, and I’ve met a cool new friend in the process. This makes me very happy.” He grinned. “What about you?”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was scared. It made me even more pretty, so they told me. I suppose my eyes got large and I looked small and frightened, and their need to dominate made me alluring: I was easy prey. Wouldn’t you look small and frightened if you had been dumped onto a strange planet and experimented on? Oh but they thought I was pretty. I know they did, they watched me closer than many of their other experiments. I was, as they would say, off limits, but that didn’t stop their eyes from exploring me as much as they’d want their hands to, and I can only imagine the thoughts they entertained when they were alone and my image burned in them lusty desires, damn them all. All of their experiments were technically off limits although that hardly stopped some of them, the sick sons of bitches---damn them, damn them all! -- I should have taken more lives in our raid to find Sasha. I enjoyed my slaughter very much. I regret nothing except that I did not have them time to go back and kill a few more, gods know they deserved to die, every last one of them. Part of me hates myself for feeling that way. I have never desired blood so heartlessly before in my entire life. I believe I had lost myself in my rage. They hurt me, they hurt my friends, and they hurt my daughter and for her alone they deserved to die. For what they have already done to Candy by keeping her alive, though I am blessed to know her now, they deserve to die, but I will not kill them now. I have not taken a single life since that day in Miami and I do not plan on it. But if anyone ever dares to lay a malignant hand on my two girls again I will have no qualms in breaking that bloody vigil. I would do it in less than a heartbeat—damn them all.
I nodded slowly as my mate suggested we wait. He had a very good point, “I don’t want her to think I want her to go away.” I said quietly. But I felt selfish for wanting her to stay, as well, since I was no longer sure that was what she really wanted. Did it matter if I was giving her a better life? Was I giving her a better life? I didn’t know anymore. I lowered my ears to Dylan as a sign of submission and sighed, “You are right I think we should wait. I would very much like to know that everything is still okay between us though.” "I think we need to find out more about her."
“Yes I agree,” I mused, “I would like to know more about her. Why does she have that scar? Why can’t she keep her food in? I mean I understand—sort of,” I admitted bitterly, knowing I was so much less intelligent about technology than anyone else I knew, which was one of my many insecurities, “but I mean, what is the reason? She was in an accident. Where did she come from, how did she get here? Perhaps I can ask Sasha to speak with her. Oh yes,” I added, “Azure and Tara are expected for supper. I have had two cows ordered for them, I hope you don’t mind?” not that it mattered. I was not inviting them with nothing to offer. “They are very clean about their feeding. I am interested in it in a way. It is beautiful… the process, you know, the life and the death and the life. Tara has found a very respectful way to do it. She is so considerate. She cares about her prey… cares about their feelings, and if they die comfortable. She makes it as painless as she can, she takes great care in it, and she honors its spirit by offering its flesh to the Earth again. Very respectful…” I murmured. “But in any case I think learning more about Candy is a must, certainly.” I pushed myself out of my chair and placed my coffee cup in the dishwasher, then took a sip of water from the tap, pulling up with it dripping from my chin to moisten my breast. It was warm, and I was stifling in my clothes, so it felt good. It reminded me how much I missed swimming. I should do that more.
I wanted to ask Dylan about the more pressing terror that made me sad, which was his death of course. I didn’t know how to approach the subject. Who would? Azure and Tara were due soon. I thought, perhaps in a desperate method of hesitation, I may ask Azure what she thought. Tara would never offer me the kind of sisterly advice I would receive from Azure. Tara and I had developed a rather decent friendship but it was only barely more than friendly acquaintances and I know I infuriated her at times. She was a hard one to get along with.
She and her mate arrived shortly after I thought this. “Hello veotha!” it was the plural term for voethe, specifically used for mateships, when your voethe mated their mate became your voethe as well, hence voetha. Tara seemed unnerved by this term and frowned slightly,
“Heya fluffy butt what’s a happ’nin?” she attempted a joke. I didn’t get it. “Um…” She rolled her eyes. “Ugh, never mind. Hello, Xara, how are you?” “I am good. How are you?” “Comme-ci comme-ca.” she muttered with a slight shrug. I forgot she had been Canadian before moving to Miami with her father when she was young, and she had mentioned her French was…passable. She moved into the kitchen to greet Dylan fondly (to which I was slightly annoyed, since I was prone to jealousy), “Ah, Dylan, how are you? Enjoying your time off? Now I wanted to ask you a question—an opinion really—I was thinking about buying a new computer…”
Oh gods, Tara was certainly talking to the right man about that. I smirked and turned to Azure, “Voethe.” I said quietly, hugging her very warmly, “I was hoping you and I could have a conversation about something?” I muttered. As I pulled away I took her hands in mine. I didn’t want to just talk about Dylan. I wanted to talk about her and Tara, and the baby, but most of all, about our new gang… the one which we lead together. It made me uncomfortable, because I did not want to seem like I placed myself above others. I had experience in leading groups of people… but not within the bounds of human society. I was worried. I wanted her council… I needed her assurance. I met her eyes and gave her a soft look, “Perhaps we can go for a walk?”

[/center] [glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow] Rasha seemed to savor the name on his tongue, like some wine tester at a vineyard.
He was totally correct about the Human language being very interesting. Not to mention confusing, and extensive. Candy wasn't sure if anyone knew where language came from; necessity at first, probably. Then it expanded from there. The way Rasha explained his own language in more detail made Candy think of a species of people from a book she read. The book was called "The Clan of the Cave Bear" written by a woman called Jean M. Auel. It was set in the prehistoric times. The main character was a little orphaned girl called Ayla who was found by a group of Neanderthals after an earthquake destroyed her family's camp. Not that she was comparing Rasha's species to a Neanderthal in a negative way! The way Auel wrote about these people made them sound like very humane, compassionate, and facinating individuals, which was exactly what Rasha was.
Wishing to continue the converstion, she vocalised this. "Your language reminds me of a species of Human which I read about once. The book was fiction, but the people really did live many thousands of years ago. In the book, they called themselves the "Clan". After their cave was destroyed in the earthquake they came across a little orphan girl called Ayla, and reluctantly took her in. These Clan people possessed only limited vocal apparatus and rarely spoke, but had a highly-developed sign language. They were also very attuned to non-verbal communication such as body language; posture, facial expression and other physical actions."
She continued. "I know that it's not the same thing as a link like you have, but it was the first thing that came to mind when you were explaining your language. The people were presented as dependent upon their racial-genetic memory. The average Clan child needed only be 'reminded' of a thing to know it permanently, though skilled tasks still require repetitive practice. Actually, thinking about it now, it reminds me of Xara's friend Hadrian. Her mate Dylan had told me once that Hadrian's species brains' worked in a similar way, possibly furthermore showing signs that the Clan species evolution isn't unsimilar to another Alien races' either. Actually, according to current DNA evidence, it's very likely that many Humans have Neanderthal in their genetics. Interbreeding was probably uncommon, but not unheard of."
Why is there so much emphasis on clothing here?
Now that was an interesting question. Why indeed. His distaste in pants amused her. More than on a few occasions she had wondered how some guy's in particular could feel comfortable wearing skinny-leg jeans. How on Earth did they manage to get any... circulation down there? She looked down at her own jeans; baggy-ish. She did not wear skinny leg jeans, mostly because of the fact that she feared if she did, then the prosthesis would become more noticable. She knew that she put too much thought, and too much stress into making sure that it was unseen, but she'd had the thing for as long as she could remember. She knew she should care less about it.
"I like the sound of your culture," She told him as they continued to shop. "From what you've told me anyway. Apart from your personal status there. You deserve better than that. What's it like being able to walk around in the nude all day long?" She asked, feeling a little embarassed for asking. She wasn't going to say much about the wearing your relatives tail, and teeth. Some cultures on Earth had strange customs such as that. There was even one she had heard of who drank urine from peoples skulls, and rubbed their cremated ashes all over their bodies. To her, it was strange, even a nightmarish thought, though to others, it was considered totally acceptable.
"Some vegetables taste like they should be poisonous," She chuckled. Like brussel sprouts and peas. "But I do love couliflour," she added as she bagged some broccoli as well.
How intriguing that Rasha and Xara, though they arived on Earth the very same way, had such different opinions and stories to tell of their times spent on Earth. Rasha had certainly been the lucky one in regards to avoiding the facility in Miami. Xara had certainly earned her freedom over time. The thought of a hostile alien race sent chills right down Candy's spine though. So far - tap wood - she had only ever met friendly aliens. To think that there were other lifeforms out there willing to kidnap and sell different species like animals was a thought Candy did not wish to hold onto.
Feeling a little ill at the thought, Candy actually jumped slightly at the sound of the meat dropping into their trolley. "I don't think of your species as primitive," Candy dissagreed, shaking her head from side-to-side. "Different, but facinating, yes. Like," she smiled. "I never would have considered myself much of a leader let alone a spiritual leader. Sasha is lovely though," she smiled warmly, adding that, "Dylan dotes on her like a princess."
Roaming down one of the last of their isles, Candy chose out a few items such as toothpaste, and some shampoo. She hadn't found him rude at all by talking of himself. She was genuinely interested after all. "What I like?" she repeated. "I like it that you came into my life," she felt her cheeks warm up. They had done a fair amount of that today. "I like living with Xara and Dylan, and Sasha too. I feel bad for thinking of leaving though, now that I've had time to think about it. As long as they want me there, I want to stay. I'm happy that you are too." She smiled up at him and experiementally bumped his arm with her shoulder in a friendly gesture.
It pained Dylan to see his mate act in this way. When he was at the hospital, it was as though he was a different man. He was more confident, less stuttery, and more sure of how to act in stressful and difficult situations. Take that doctors coat and stethoscope, or his technology away from him and he was seldom sure how to handle much at all.
Yet as Xara looked so frightened, and distressed, Dylan knew exactly what he should be doing; comforting her. Words were the best way for now, he decided. She needed to hear the advice she seeked. Physical comfort may follow after that. "She wants to stay," he assured her. "So far it's apparent that you've been her main maternal figure," he smiled wryly. "Daughters... well, they bicker with their mothers."
The fact they needed to know more about Candy was something they both knew they shouldn't avoid for much longer. Everything that Xara wanted to know, Dylan had already tried to come to conclusions on himself simply judging off what he had researched on medicine. He'd even researched on cyborgs in pop culture and liturature. Cyborg was something Candy called herself, and it some ways he supposed she was not unlike one. But it also seemed wrong to say that she was. When you think of cyborgs, you think of robots. Robots are creations. No matter how advanced, they were unfeeling machines. Candy was a breathing, living, feeling being.
“Azure and Tara are expected for supper. I have had two cows ordered for them, I hope you don’t mind?” She added, as if it was an afterthought.
"Oh, no. No, that's fine." he waved his hand to demonstate that he didn't mind. He did wonder where on Earth she was going to keep the things till the girls got there. Though watching the girls feed was not something he was particularly keen on witnessing, no matter how clean they were about it.
Xara never spoke of Tara much in the past. It was only recently did he start to notice she spoke of her more often. It probably had something to do with the fact that Dylan spoke of her pregnancy quite frequently. He'd been working so closely with the vampiress couple that he had begun having a few dreams about their check-ups, and had even gone about applying a few ideas he'd had in those dreams into their real-check ups.
Xara got up from her seat, apparently already finished with her coffee while Dylan had barely drank half of his own. Instincts took over, and he rose to his feet as well to join her as she stepped over to the sink to rince the coffee cup and then take a drink of water for herself. He hugged her from behind as she drank, placing his head upon her shoulder. "We can talk to Candy later on tonight, if you'd like," he offered. "Or tomorrow, maybe, at the latest."
It wasn't long after he offered this when they heard a knock at the door. Knowing that it must have been the girls, seeing as Candy knew to just let herself in, he straightened up to greet them while Xara chose to get the door for them. “Hello veotha!” He heard her greet the couple warmly as he downed the rest of his coffee quickly and placed it in the dish washer.
To his surprise, Tara headed right towards him. "Good to see you Tara," he smiled at her, offering her a quick hug. "The time off is... definately deserved." He smiled wryly, a part of him anxious that she may take it the wrong way. That perhaps she may think he was reffering to his work being so closely related to her pregnancy. Which was not the case, of course. Oh he stressed too much...
“Now I wanted to ask you a question—an opinion really—I was thinking about buying a new computer…” She continued, and Dylan felt relief sweep over him. Immediately, his mind began to run through all models of computers, laptops, and questions. "Well uh, when it comes to computers, the first thing I'd recomend is a laptop; they're desirable for their mobility, speed, display quality, better battery power, and extra features to name a uh, a few. I could show you my own laptop if you wish? It's a Toshiba, 15 inch screen, with 8GB of memory. It also came with one years free antivirus software." Whether she knew much about the brands or anything about GB's he wasn't sure. He was getting ahead of himself. "I'll stop myself there," he smiled, clearly showing his chagrin. "I should be asking what it is you're looking for."
]
Azure had been thrilled when she recieved a call from Xara, inviting her, and Tara for dinner. Not only because it felt as though it had been too long since they'd met under social circumstances, but it also felt like a lifetime since she had seen her little niece, as well. It was always nice to see Dylan, too, of course. But they saw him on a regular basis. It almost felt like a special treat to be able to see her voethe and niece again.
“Heya fluffy butt what’s a happ’nin?” Tara greeted lightly as Xara opened the door to her home, to which her friend responded with a confused gaze. Azure smiled in an amused way as Tara tried again. “Ugh, never mind. Hello, Xara, how are you?”
“I am good. How are you?” Xara replied in her almost-formal way of speaking. “Comme-ci comme-ca.” Was Tara's reply, translating to something along the lines of "so-so" in the French language. Azure knew Xara did not know French, and neither did Azure to be honest, but the meaning was pretty obvious, especially judging on Tara's body language as well. Her fiance entered the house and promptly went to greet Dylan, who she had decided to have a talk to in regards to computers. Azure had already expressed an interest in laptops as opposed to desktops, though she wasn't about to lie and say she knew anything about them, really. It was purely a personal choice.
Azure however, went straight for Xara, smiling warmly as she swooped in to hug her dearest friend. "Hey, Xara," she gave her friend a gentle squeaze and then gently pulled back, smiling at her for a moment longer before she realised there was something a little off about her own body language. As her alien friend asked her to join her in a walk, it confirmed Azure's concern. "Of course we can take a walk," she nodded, a little unsure of where to walk to for a moment - not wishing to be rude to either Dylan or Tara by simply leaving the house - before deciding on leading Xara through the house and out the backdoor, where they could walk or sit in privacy.
Outside, it was like a little oasis paradise which Dylan had helped create for Xara. There were wind chimes, ferns, an abundance of flowers in many varietys and a few cherry blossom trees as well. Under a large willow tree was a small wooden bench, where they could sit and speak. "What's wrong?" She asked, concern etched in her features as they approached the seat.
As they spoke together, Xara opened up about her fears about the compound, and their children. She confessed her fears regarding mortality, and of her feelings towards Dylan. Everything that Xara feared, Azure knew that Tara must have felt the same way at some point before their engagement. Azure had only been given a glimpse of the person Tara was before they became a couple. It was after they began their relationship when they both began to grow. Azure never ever wanted to hear Tara believed that she thought she was worthless, especially while she almost liturally worshiped her fiance.
She also felt grateful to Hadrian in a way, for what he'd done for Tara. Her fiance certainly seemed to have a great friend in the alien man as well. It sounded as though Azure almost had him to thank for "setting them up" so to speak if he was the one who convinced her to go into the city. Perhaps she should do that, she mused. If it was true that Azure wanting to be a vampire was one of the most meaningful things anyone had ever done for her, she knew with little doubt in her mind she'd do it all over again for that woman she loved.
Dylan loved Xara. Anyone knew this and no one could deny it. Dylan did not care what other people thought of their relationship. The only thing that mattered was Xara. Azure suspected that her friend undoubtedly came first before his work as well. Why else would he be trying to take so many days off? The doctor had every right to decide what it was that he wanted to do in regards to his mortality. He was a smart guy. Whatever decision he made would be well thought out, there was no doubt about that. But they'd never know the answer unless they asked.
Tara hadn't wanted to ask Azure to change for her. She'd changed because she had wanted to do it. A life without Tara was a life not worth living. Who knew how things might have turned out if Azure had not stumbled into Tara's hotel room that fateful night after her shift at the Burlesque Lounge in Miami. Before she made that second last trip from the facility with Edison, Azure had thought that she'd lost Xara forever; her one true friend at the facility. Not just that, Azure had been blamed for her "death". Tara had been broken when they both met eachother, but she had somehow also managed to fix Azure too.
It was sometime later when they ventured back into the house. By that time, Dylan informed them that Rasha and Candy were on their way back, and Azure assumed he'd probably told Tara what she'd wanted to know about computers. Azure settled herself quite comfortably on the long couch while they waited for the other two to return.
Not five minutes later, the front door opened, and in walked the blue-haired Candy whom she had only met a few times before, and a new face she hadn't met before. He was tall, tanned, with a long bushy brown tail and erect ears. Both teenagers were carrying large bags of shopping. "Here, let me help." She offered, getting to her feet and walking towards them. Dylan was already preparing the kitchen to make the meal, while she took a bag off of Candy. "Thanks," The blue-haired girl expressed her gratitude with a smile.
"No problem," She smiled, then facing Rasha. "I'm Azure, you're Xara's cousin, right?"[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

"I like it that you came into my life," Rasha grinned broadly. She liked that? That was fantastic! He was terrified that she would find him too strange to like. His clothing choices certainly were a worry for him since he was rejected so often by people who found his style different. Men apparently were not supposed to wear skirts, or makeup. He liked the makeup, it was fun to apply and he could test it with different jewelry. The man in front of him began to pay the cashier for his food and then it was Rasha and Candy’s turn. He began loading the food onto the counter and the cashier, an unpleasant looking woman with a permanent scowl, began to bag it for them as numbers appeared on her screen. Rasha’s ears were swiveled in Candy’s direction, "I like living with Xara and Dylan, and Sasha too. I feel bad for thinking of leaving though, now that I've had time to think about it. As long as they want me there, I want to stay. I'm happy that you are too." Rasha was so happy! He had been seriously worried there for a moment that Candy was going to dislike him. Why he would think that, you ask? Because he really wanted her to like him, and when you really want someone to like you, you’re always worried that they won’t. The shoulder bump was something his species did as well, and surprisingly it meant the same thing. He was thrilled, and he returned the gesture, minding his strength. The last thing he wanted to do was accidentally push her into the wall and hurt her. He ran a hand through his hair and smiled at her, “Well I’m certainly glad you will be sticking around, I think it would be terribly boring and sad without you around. Don’t feel too bad, Xara will get over it, and you didn’t leave so it is doubly okay.” He stepped aside to allow Candy to pay with the money Xara had given her. “For the record,” he said, “I think you’re awesome.” - - - “Alright listen to me, the both of you.” Xara took a shuddering breath and wiped the sweat from her brow as her vision stopped being blurry. She looked up at the pregnant woman sheepishly. Tara glared down at her.
“Enough is enough. You and me I understand, but you and Azure? What the hell’s going on?” Xara coughed and took a sip of cool water, linking to both the women. “I told her why you were upset with me.” Tara looked shocked for a moment and she stared blankly at Xara, then cast a look to Azure, confused and apologetic. She groaned, “Aw Xara why would you do that?” “She needed to know.” “No, she really didn’t.” “Yes she did.” “Are you fucking retarded? You knew what was going to happen…” Tara gasped, “And you did it on purpose! I bet you didn’t even tell the proper story. Hell, if anyone deserved to get KO’d by Xara it was me. I was a complete racist bitch to her for like, the longest time. And then one day I decided to do something nice and she stabs me. I think she was like, trying to set me up on a date or something? I dunno, something completely stupid and Xara-like, like ‘Oh hey, I’ma stab you, bitches love stab wounds’, I mean your planet must have been fucked the hell up for that to even be a thing.” Xara frowned and pulled a face, “you could try to be civil.” “You could try, oh I dunno, thinking for once maybe?” She sighed and rubbed her temples, “But anyway, so it was a mistake, Xara shouldn’t try to stab people, especially not people she wants to be friends with. But Azure,” her eyes softened and she took her fiance’s hands gently in her own, “look at what you almost did. You could have killed her. What would you have done then? You should have talked to me first. Xara’s like… your best friend; she’s like beyond best friend. I don’t even think our relationship can compare to the one you have with her, not that it is less, but I mean… within the realms of platonic relationships. All of the things you went through together, the stuff you helped each other recover from… a friend like that comes once in a million life times if you’re lucky. Anyway, you remember when you thought she was dead, do you really want that to be true? You thought she was dead twice! Remember when we were saving Sasha? Come on Az... I know you are upset and I should have told you but I mean…it was just a little argument. I was always looking to pick fights, you know, and I kinda got what I deserved. Sort of.” She glared at Xara, who shifted uncomfortably, still wheezing for breath. Tara almost felt bad for her, if she wasn’t just a little turned on by Azure’s anger. Angry Azure was h-o-t HOT, Tara thought, only half privately. Such a flirt! She lifted her hand and stroked her fiance’s hair lovingly as she whispered, “My love. Relax, take a deep breath alright?” she hugged the woman and then brought her to sit next to Xara. “Now…talk it out or something. No stabbing, no choking, no biting, no scratching and for the love of God no Hollywood sappy make-up scenes. I’ve already thrown up once today I don’t fancy doing it again.”
Xara let out a wheezy laugh. “Do you remember,” she said hoarsely, “when I was pregnant with Sasha…”
“And you threw up all over that asshole on the bus? Priceless.” Tara giggled, “Oh man…I shoulda had a camera…but we can reminisce about that later. Why did you want to make Azure upset like that?”
Azure’s threat laid a heavy hand on Xara’s heart. It cut right to her very core. She looked up at her friend, from whom she was promised no help would ever come, and sighed. “I wanted to know you would be able to bring yourself to hurt me if, for some reason, I became a threat.” She said simply, “Now I know…” There was a shocked silence. Tara gave Xara a dumbfounded look and whacked her one across the back of her head,
“That is possibly the dumbest fucking thing I’ve ever heard!”
- - - - - - But we’ll get to the rest of that in a little bit because it seems as if we’re doing this epic time lapse thing, like Doctor Who! Everyone, quick, find a tie and stop making sense!
We ready? Okay. Good.
Rasha and Candy arrived to the house before Sasha had. He didn’t know this yet but his cousin was due to have arrived a solid fifteen minutes ago, and Xara was beginning to explode with anxiety. She was just not having a good day was she? But she was relatively composed when Candy and Rasha arrived. Of course like a true gentleman Rasha insisted on carrying all of the heavy groceries. He yattered away at Candy about everything and anything, talking about the sunshine, the stars, the animals, his jewelry business; “If you ever need anything made I would be more than happy to make it! The sun suits you very nicely I think though. But I would understand if you wanted something different.”
When they arrived at Xara’s home, Rasha rushed to the front door to hold it open for her, bowing as best as he could with arms full of groceries. Xara took the groceries from him when he arrived and whisked them off to the kitchen, where Dylan was, and began having a hushed and worried conversation about how Sasha hadn’t yet come home.
"I'm Azure, you're Xara's cousin, right?" Rasha grinned and bowed. He took her hand and shook it gently, “Yes! And you must be her voethe Azure! I am sorry we have never met before, you sounded like a marvelous woman. And this is your mate?” he asked, gesturing to pregnant Tara, who was sitting on the couch like a beached whale. Tara nodded to him, “Sup, man? We’ve met before.”
“Tara?” Rasha’s jaw nearly dropped. “You look so….so…”
“Bloated and pale? Yeah. That’s what pregnancy does to a vampire.”
Rasha’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, “Fascinating! Congratulations on your baby!” he hugged Azure without a second though; in his eyes, they were already family. Rasha turned back to Candy with a grin and took her hand to lead her toward the sofa where Tara sat. “Can I feel?” He asked. Tara nodded; she was asked that a lot.
Xara approached Candy and tapped her on the shoulder, asking her to follow her away from the crowd. “Candy…I can’t get a hold of Sasha. She is supposed to be on her way home from Craven’s house. Is there anywhere she may have stopped on her way home? Can you go look for her please?”

[glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]Since Sasha began to date Craven, Candy admitted that she felt a little like a third wheel. Not to mean to sound as though she was leading too deep into her new friendship with Rasha, but it seemed that everyone around her had someone. Sasha had Craven, Xara had Dylan, Tara had Azure, Sage had Hadrian, even Edison and Patrick.
Candy thought she was reading the signs right. She and Rasha seemed to be hitting it off really well. Of course she was terrified that she may be reading the wrong signals. But everything Rasha had done, from holding hands, and the interest in her thoughts, feelings... he'd given her a necklace which he had handcrafted himself! How many men showed an interest in things like that, really. How had Candy managed to earn this sudden stroke of luck? She certainly felt fortunate to have Rasha in her life right now. However, self doubt prevented Candy from actually believing that there could be a mutual attraction between the two of them. If a friendship was all she was going to get, then that would be better than not having him around at all.
Once Candy and Rasha both reached a short lane, they were lucky enough to only have to wait after one man before it was their turn to begin loading the food onto the counter so that the woman - a sour looking old thing - could begin scanning their items and bag them. Candy offered the woman a shy smile, which was not returned, so switched her attention back to someone who mattered; Rasha. Why on Earth would she focus on anyone who didn't even have the common decency to say hello when she was far more happier talking to someone who actually gave a damn how she felt? He even reciprocated the shoulder bump she gave him, with his own. The cashier spared them a dissaproving gaze, to which Candy responded to with an arched brow and a shrug of the shoulders to show that she was disconcerned with the womans distaste.
“Well I’m certainly glad you will be sticking around, I think it would be terribly boring and sad without you around. Don’t feel too bad, Xara will get over it, and you didn’t leave so it is doubly okay.” Candy smiled back up at him. "You've definately made my day a little better," she told him, stepping forwards to pay the woman before she told them the amount. In total, coming to just over $200. A part of Candy wanted to wince at the price total, but then again, they had gotten everything Xara wanted on her list. “For the record, I think you’re awesome.” he added, which mostly served to make Candy blush.
"Mommy," A small, unfamiliar voice made Candy cast a furtive gaze to see a little girl of about four years of age sitting in a trolley behind them, while her mother waited in cue with her own groceries. "Why does that man have a tail? We don't have tails." The woman, a spitting image of the girl, blonde, green eyed but at least 30 years older, looked a shocked by the question, even a little embarrased. "Paula, darling! That's rude." She berated the child.
"It's fine, Miss," Candy assured the woman, hoping that she wasn't speaking out of place since the woman had already told her daughter it wasn't okay to ask the question. It also did not escape Candy's notice that the cashier woman was now looking at the four of them with more interest than before. "May I?" The mother nodded, a little hessitantly, and Candy leaned over a little so she was height-level with the little child sitting in the trolley. "He has a tail because that's how he was born," she told her. "Just like you were born with yellow hair."
"And you have blue hair!" The little girl added with a toothy smile.
Candy nodded, and chuckled. The mother seemed to relax. "Everyone you meet will look different, but it's important to remember that we should treat eachother nicely."
"I fink his tail is pretty," The little girl said.
"Me too," Candy agreed, and turned to smiled up at Rasha, then straightened up to stand at full height. "Sorry if I intruded, Miss," she directed her attention to the mother. She did feel that it wasn't really her place to butt in like that, but she felt that it was wrong to disparage the child for asking the question, when it was perfectly fine for her to do so; especially since he was a toddler. They were naturally curious little beings.
"It's fine," The mother assured, still looking a little abashed at her daughters audacious nature. "Thank you."
Candy offered the woman a smile, then smiled a little more warmly at the little girl. She glanced at the cashier, who had resumed to her previous ignoring them, and then took some of the shopping bags, ready to begin their walk back home. "Come on," She gently bumped Rasha's shoulder again, and began walking.
------------------------------------------
By the time Candy and Rasha made it back to the house, Candy was sure that her arms were about to drop off. The groceries themselves were not heavy if only carried only for a short amount of time, but walking with them from the grocery store, and carrying them back home, it was a bit more for Candy's thin little arms to handle.
Of course they got back to the house just fine. Candy hadn't dared complain, knowing full well that Rasha probably would have offered to carry all of the groceries himself, since that was the sort of person she pegged him as. It would have been unfair, and she'd have been left feeling worse than if her arms actually did fall off.
“If you ever need anything made I would be more than happy to make it!" He offered again, at some point. "The sun suits you very nicely I think though. But I would understand if you wanted something different.”
"I love the pendant, really. It's perfect in every way." She assured him, tilting her head downwards so she could get a better look at it again. "I really should be doing something nice for you though. To thank you for being so sweet." Just can't quite figure what on Earth to do for him though. Perhaps Xara would have a good idea. She did know him better after all.
Candy blushed (again) as Rasha held the door for her, bowing as if greeting some form of royalty. Xara appeared quickly, as if she had already been waiting at the door for them, and quickly ushered the two of them to the kitchen, where Dylan was currently preparing to make their meal; scientist, doctor, chef... what couldn't the man do? Azure also appeared moments later, and offered to take some of the groceries Candy was carrying.
Candy found that during the times she met with Azure she became a little timid when around her. Azure was a nice, friendly and open person. Candy knew there should have been no need for feeling how she felt. But then, the vampiress was also so lovely, and unique as well. Candy often found her eyes wandering up the womans body, not in a homosexual way, of course. She was simply admiring the little things. Like the brightness of her make-up, and the cool ways she wore her hair. She admired Azure's skin; her toned, arms and legs, and the flat muscles of her stomach; the way her muscles all worked in tandem as he performed her graceful dances, was enough to make anyone jealous. Yes, Candy felt a little jelous of Azure, flustered by the offer for assistance, and a little ashamed for feeling the way she did.
The only reason she thought she didn't feel a little jelous at the fact she was now talking to Rasha was the fact that Candy knew she had nothing to worry about; Azure was a lesbian.
Azure took a few bags from Candy, leaving her right hand free to shake Rasha's as they walked to the kitchen to quickly deposit the grocery bags. “Yes! And you must be her voethe Azure!"
She nodded, smiling. "Yeah, it's real nice to meet you."
"I am sorry we have never met before, you sounded like a marvelous woman. And this is your mate?” Rasha gesturing towards Tara, who had found herself a spot on the couch. Her stomach was sticking out like a balloon now. Not long and she'd either pop, or a doctor may have to try and induce a labor.
“Sup, man? We’ve met before.” The shorter-haired vampiress greeted.
“Tara?” Rasha looked shocked for a moment. “You look so….so…”
“Bloated and pale? Yeah. That’s what pregnancy does to a vampire.”
Azure's eyes almost bugged out of her head in surpise as Rasha suddenly hugged her, congratulating her warmly on the pregnancy. She smiled though, and reciprocated by giving him a gentle squeaze around the shoulders. The three of them made their way back to the couch to join Tara then. Though if Rasha hadn't taken her hand again, Candy would have wanted to ask Dylan if he would like some help instead. “Can I feel?” Rasha asked Tara, pointing towards her stomach. She had often wondered what it felt like to feel a baby kicking from inside of a womans stomach. Though she assumed it must get tiresome for some expecting mothers to have people coming over and feeling her stomach all day long. It was that thought which held Candy back from asking Tara if she could have a feel for herself.
Not that she'd get a chance to this time, however, as she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. Turning to look up, she was surprised to see Xara there, looking restless. Silently, she gestured for the blue-haired girl to follow her away from the small group of people on the couch, and anxiously began to ask her about Sasha's whereabouts. "She's with Craven," Candy told her, knowing that she was stating the obvious. "They always take forever to say goodbye to one another." She could sense the womans distress though, and since their little spat earlier, Candy was afraid to cause another discrepancy between them. "I'll walk to his place," She assent after a moment. "I have my mobile. So you can call me if she comes back before I do, okay?"
Offering Xara a timid smile, she hessitated for a moment before taking a step forward and giving her a very quick hug around the ribs. "We'll be back before dinners served." She added as she pulled away, and went to walk out the door.
“Alright listen to me, the both of you.” Azure's attentioned stapped towards Tara as her fiance commanded their attention. The vampiress' eyes glared. “Enough is enough. You and me I understand, but you and Azure? What the hell’s going on?”
Azure looked shamefaced, feeling deeply hurt and confused. She had not wished to bear look at either women, as Xara admitted to telling her why Tara had been upset with her for so long. The two had never seemed to have gotten along. They seldom bickered, but Azure had known that the main reason they would attempt to get along was because she loved them both. Azure loved Xara in a platonic way, as though they were both sisters. She shared a deep, romantic attraction to Tara. To learn the true reason why both the women did not get along hit Azure as hard as a limestone block.
Apparently though, Xara hadn't even told the true story. Bottom line was... Xara had stabbed Tara once, and she could not even give a solid reason as to why! If it wasn't for Tara actually explaining to Azure that hers and Xara's history had always been rather animus. Xara had informed Azure once long ago that things such as scars, and even burns were considered sexy on her home planet. This discussion had been spurred after a few nasty procedures at the facility, possibly as an attempt to make her feel better.
Knowing this though, had not served to make Azure feel any better about what had just happened. She had almost strangled Xara. She had no idea what had come over her. If she had been thinking straight, she knew that she'd never had resorted to something so brash. But then, she had not felt like herself. As Xara admitted to stabbing Tara, something deeper, and more primal came out of her. She had only experienced something similar during the times where she had fed on cows with Tara. Something intinctual happened. Where before she had been turned into the vampire, the thought of drinking the blood of another animal would have made her feel ill. But now, she craved the taste. It made her throat burn simply thinking about it.
That time when she had thought they'd lost Xara in Dylan's old warehouse... words could not describe the desolation she'd felt. Yet not a few minutes ago she'd had Xara's neck between her palms, and her life liturally in her hands. Xara's reasoning behind her actions was that she wanted to know that Azure would be able to bring herself to hurt her if, for some reason, her friend became a threat. Well, Xara knew now, and Azure knew, that she was much more capable then they both gave her credit for.
Azure could not see a life without either Xara or Tara in it. Tara told her that perhaps Azure's life might not have been so terrible if Xara had succeeded in killing her. Maybe so, but it wouldn't be as great as it was, either. She would have met the boys at the facility, and Edison would have taken her to Xara. But Azure wouldn't be getting married to the love of her life, or having their very own miracle child. Knowing this only made Azure wish to count her blessings over and over again.
As much as Azure did not like to catastrophize, the biggest truth they all faced now was that danger was coming. For all they knew, it was on their doorsteps. There was no time for naivity, or false hope. The government wanted to kill them once, and there was no doubt they'd try again. But as long as they were breathing, they could fight. As long as they were fighting, they'd survive. There had been already so many questions and suspitions regarding Citole Snare. Azure and Tara already argued once over the blonde womans motives, she was hessitant to bring up the topic again without any proof that the woman was being misleading with her intentions. But wasn't a gut feeling enough?
Part of Azure wanted the other gangs' opinions of the woman, but Xara had made a good point. The alien warrior probably knew better than anyone what it was like to fight for half of her life, like a child-soldier. The way Xara spoke, it even filled Azure with doubts. How on Earth were they going to get help from the public when their very co-existance with the public was strained. They could get a few people in the city, yes. But the state or country? It seemed almost pointless to attempt. How were they going to make it a public problem? They were already under careful watch by the government. If they suspected that their gang was up to something, there wasn't going to be any coming back from it. Death was a high possibility.[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Sasha hummed happily as she trudged up the hill to her house. She knew she was probably being sorely missed but her phone battery had died and she was unable to call and tell them she was on her way. Her mother had asked her to pick up a desert on the way home (preferably chocolate) and so she had made a detour to the bakery and picked up a large vanilla cake, iced in chocolate, with pictures of turtles swimming in the surf piped in green and blue. She loved turtles and tortoises; they were just so cool.
Sasha was spending nearly every waking moment of her free time with Craven. She was completely smitten by him, and why wouldn’t she be? He was kind, handsome, funny, smart, and above all else he had accepted her for being a Hustrian, like her uncle Edison, Aunt Sage and cousin Sirius. There were very few people in the world would could do that for her, and for the longest time she believed that those few were located solely within her family: Azure, Tara, Edison, Quam, Sage, Hadrian, her parents… those people. Never in her lifetime had she imagined someone outside of her family could find it in them to love her despite being so…different, and unstable. Her emotional state, to the contrary of many teens her age, had actually stabled by quite a bit as now her physical age had caught up with her mental maturity. That took a lot of the stress off, she thought. Craven was just the best boyfriend in the world, and Sasha was reveling in the full flush of love. She hummed louder in the quietness of the street. She was a few blocks away from her home yet; more than enough time for another tune or two!
She was just about to sing another tune when her keen sense of smell picked up Candy’s scent. Sasha’s ears pricked and her tail shook in greeting. “Candy!” she called, “Oh! Oh, over here!” she ran toward the scent, which took her to a small footpath that served as a shortcut to her house, and grinned when she met her blue-haired friend. “I guess mom sent ya, huh? Psh. She always forgets when she tells me to pick up stuff from the store. I mean, seriously. She needs to get laid or something—she’s been so tense!” she giggled. Her parents seemed so intimately impaired sometimes! “Anyway… you’ll never guess what happened today! Okay. So. We were like, playing this game… it was some weird game where you build a tower and then try to take it apart block by block… like, Jungle or something? I dunno. Anyway. So we were doing this, right, and I knocked the tower over by accident, and one of the pieces ended up flying all the way out the front door. It was incredible! A total like, ricochet things, like in those old terrible spy movies y’know where the guy’s all like “pschoo! Pew pew!” and the bullets bouncing off all the random shit and then the bad guy’s all like “Der… holy shit! Where did that bullet from, how does this even happen, what is going on, ah!” and the spy’s all like “hells fucking yeah I totally just did that, suck on that, bitches”. I love those movies…they are the best.”
Sasha allowed herself a moment to breath, and she walked in a sort of stunned silence for a little while. “But yeah,” it wasn’t that long of a while. “It was totally a lot of fun. Oh!” she grinned and freed an arm to hug Candy, “You should come to the beach with us tomorrow! We’re going to get some little boards and slide around on the sand or something? I dunno it sounds like a sport and I’m pretty bad at sports, but you should totally come! We’re going to go see a movie after. It will be fun! Please come? Please!” She batted her eyelashes at Candy. “Pwetty pwease… ! Well, you’re coming anyway. So,” she giggled, “How was your day?”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Xara had hugged Candy back and when she was gone she smiled very warmly. “I guess…maybe things are okay after all.” What a relief. She had sorted things out with Azure and Tara, and now Candy had even forgiven her. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders and she could breathe again. Now if only her daughter would answer her phone…
“Xara,” Tara sighed, “Will you relax already? I’m sure she’s just fine. Candy’s right, she was probably just mackin’ on her new boy-toy. Can’t really blame them. I remember what it was like at that age…hell, I know what it’s like now.” She winked. “If you know what I mean.” She slid a sly glance Azure’s direction and privately sent her a dirty thought through their link. She had become rather… affectionate. A huge step from when they were first dating, when even the thought of sex terrified her into a babbling state of complete awkwardness.
Tara remembered fondly how kind and patient Azure had been. She had thought for sure the woman would mock or berate her for being so skittish. She had had boyfriends who had gotten furious when she didn’t perform the way they had wanted and girlfriends who had just laughed openly in her face. She had never been entirely graceful in bed, and she had become very nervous and worried that Azure would laugh and leave her. Now they were getting married, and Tara had confidence in spades.
Rasha frowned, “I don’t know exactly what you mean—ah, but you don’t need to go into the specifics.” He blushed. Tara smirked and reached out to hold Azure’s hand. She squeezed it every so often when she had a contraction. They happened once in a while, but over the past week they had been more painful. Nothing she couldn’t handle, and after so many false alarms Tara didn’t want to really go to the hospital “unless the kid’s already walkin’ outta there with a top-hat and a cane tap dancin’ to Frank Sinatra, I don’t want to go”. But man, were they uncomfortable… and throughout the night, they would also get more frequent. The baby kicked, and Tara giggled, “Hey Dylan!” she said, “She’s kicking again. She likes to do that doesn’t she? Remember that time when she booted your hand? That was really funny. She kicked the little ultrasound wand.”
Rasha giggled, “Adorable!”
“You wanna know something else? She’s going to be a girl!” The alien man smirked, “I gathered. Got any names yet?” he asked both the women. Tara beamed, “Well I had a few in mind…”
Xara turned away from the party with a fond smile. Motherhood suited Tara, believe it or not, and Xara was having a hard time believing it. Tara never seemed like the motherly type. Xara wandered into the kitchen and wrapped her arms around Dylan in the same way he had earlier, and kissed his neck just under his ear very gently. “Do you need any help?” she muttered softly, hugging him very close to herself. Her tail wrapped itself around his inner thigh. She rocked from side-to-side. “It all smells very, very good.” Her stomach growled and she pulled away slightly, not wanting to interrupt in the cooking too much. But she stole a real kiss in any case. “Dylan,” she ventured, “have you thought about maybe having a baby one day? Yours, and mine?”
Xara’s pregnancy with Sasha, though no short of a miracle, was also completely unconventional. She was inseminated by machines. Operated on… and when she miscarried the first baby she was dumped on the doorstep of a hospital. Then her pregnancy with Sasha lasted but three months, way shorter than it should have, and the girl continued to grow rapidly ever since. In a way, Xara had missed all of the parts of motherhood that made one feel like a mother; the baby years, toddler hood, the terrible twos… she had none of that, and neither had Sasha. Besides, before she had come to terms with the fact that Sasha was forced on her, Xara felt as if she had been abandoned with nothing more than an unfinished experiment. She could not imagine seeing her as anything but the single most important being on planet Earth, or even in the universe, anymore. But she was a different person back then. “Sasha’s already talking about going away to university and leaving the house…” Xara continued with a hint of sadness, “I don’t want her to go.” She added, “but I mean… we have money, and a house…I’m not saying we should right now. But… I guess I was just wondering if you would consider having a baby with me.” She blushed. Xara hardly ever blushed! He was going to think she was such a nerd!
(( Baby time? =D ))
