Hugging Hadrian was nice. Tara hadn't done that in a long while it seemed and even though she was completely devoted to Azure she couldn't help but feel a warm, and admittedly fuzzy, feeling wash over her body as they embraced. Tensions seemed to lessen, and everyone seemed to relax. Except Azure.
Azure seemed tense to Tara, although she didn't know why. It bothered her nonetheless, knowing Azure could have been uncomfortable. That was the last thing in the world she ever wanted, was to make her lover uncomfortable or upset in any way. So Tara took her hand in and held it tightly while they spoke to Hadrian and his adoptive parents. She tried to communicate her feelings to her through that simple touch, but was worried it wasn't getting through. So, she decided to try something new. Tara decided to link with her.
'Azure? You okay...'
Tara's link was strong, and vibrant. Full of thoughts, emotions and memories she had no idea how to filter and limit. Her 'link view' was simple but elegant. It was a room, large but relatively bare. It had a bed, a dresser and vanity, a closet a small chest and a bookshelf. The room was themed to the colour pink ( a colour Tara was not known for liking much). A small boy sat on the bed, playing with dolls. He looked pretty happy with himself, dressing the dolls in their dresses and shoes. A grown woman who looked like an older version of Tara sat with him, reading a book from the shelf. She was having troubles, and looked very unpleased with herself.
"And the...er, the cat -- c-a-t, cat-- the cat sai-said," the woman with the stutter struggled. Her brows furrowed as she came across a new word and she pressed close to it. The little boy looked up inquisitively at the woman, concern shining bright in his eyes. He watched as his companions face contorted into frustrated pain and she tossed the book down by her side and crossed her arms. "It's stupid."
The little boy frowned and put his doll down, "No, it isn't."
The woman pouted and sniffled, "It stinks!"
"Hey..." the little boy scooted over onto the bed and picked up the book, holding it out to the woman. "It's fun! Look at the kitty."
"Don't want to." The woman pouted even deeper and turned her head away from the boy, who merely sighed and placed the book down. He sighed and placed his hand on the woman's shoulder, despite her shying away and retreating into herself, still sniffling.
"Okay...we're done with books today. We'll come back to it tomorrow, okay?"
The woman didn't answer. The boy gave her a stern look, "okay?"
The woman sighed and rolled her eyes, throwing herself onto the bed with her back turned to the boy. She seethed, "It's stupid."
The boy simply shook his head patiently and placed the book back on the shelf. Tara had no idea about the personalities inside her head which represented her brain-state and health. She had no idea about her mild touch of autism. It was so small it was shrugged off simply as a social disorder, or a learning disability. When she was younger she was a troubling student, who acted much like the woman did when faced with too much change, or too much of a challenge. She would call it names, and shut down. So much so that the government schools simply gave up, and her masters did not have the money to send her to a proper facility. As an older youth her schooling had come to a halt and, being a slave, no one cared. Her symptoms had died down and she was able to function almost normally most of the time, except for during great moments of stress or change. So, when she was changed into a vampire, she retreated, and was happy to stay that way.
Azure would have seen all of that in a flash before Tara managed to tone her link down to simple communication function. It was a way to permanently establish a link and grant someone complete access to your mine; for your subconscious to share a deep secret, known to no man on Earth.
She smiled and squeezed her lovers hand. "Oh!" she squealed as little Sirius was brought in, with his shining eyes, sucking his hand. Completely oblivious to her linking. She reached out and played with one of his adorable little feet, despite the confused look she was getting. "Isn't he cute?" she giggled, making faces and noises in his direction.
Tara gave Ruby a grateful glance for the kind hospitality she was displaying, despite Tara having eating almost a quarter of their cows.
"Our news? Oh!" she grinned broadly and hugged Azure's shoulders with one of her arms, kissing the side of her cheek. "Azure...well," she frowned slightly, "I...we decided... well I accidentally changed...her... into a-uh...vampire...too."
Okay, so it was less of an easy thing to announce than she had thought. What would they say? They would think she was a horrible person. Tara averted her eyes nervously and blushed.
((OOC: Hope this was alright! :3 ))

[glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]AZURE
'Azure? You okay...'
Azure inhaled a very short gasp blinking her eyes rapidly for a moment as she felt a strange sensation tingle around the back of her skull, not unsimiliar to the feeling you may experience when one of you limbs fell asleep if you applied a certain amount of pressure of it for an extended peroid of time.
A bright light exploded in her mind, fading until she was left staring at a blur of pink, as light as coral. She blinked, realising that she'd found herself in an entirely different room to the one she thought she was in just a few seconds earlier.
If asked to describe the room, Azure might say that it was only "plain". She was given the impression that whoever occupied this bedroom did not mind living very simply. Her first thought was that the woman, who struck Azure as very similar to Tara in regards of appearance (albeit just a bit older), who slept in this room, though it was the boy who seemed more comfortable in the surroundings.
He sat on the bed beside the woman, humming idly to himself while he clothed a couple of porcelian dolls, showing great care in the way he handled the toy. Were they his?
The woman sat not far beside him, hunched over with her head in a book and wearing an expression of clear displeasure. The reason as to why was unclear, until Azurew ventured a little closer, very pleased with the fact that she could walk, and discovered that the reason why she looked so unhappy, was because she was having difficulty reading the words.
The boy expressed compassion towards the woman, placing the toy on the bed while he inched closer to the woman and attempted to calm her by taking the book and holding it himself, pointing towards the brightly colored cat on the page opposite to the paragraphed sentances on the other.
However the woman would not appease the boy, and continued with her sulk by acting in a childish manner, pouting, and averting her eyes away from him. It was as if they were playing some form of role reveral; the young boy acting as the parent, and the older woman acting as if she were the child.
Why was she seeing this? What relevance did any of this have with what was happening outside of wherever she was right now. That was a good question too... where was she?
Whether she'd have been offered an oppertunity to find out however, as Azure blinked several times, and her vision cleared. She exhaled slowly, finding herself back in Hadrian's 'parents' lounge area. "Where was I?" she breathed, glancing around her as if her vision suddenly felt keener, brighter. Whatever it was that she'd seen, she felt that Tara was responsible for it. Why else would she have seen another version of Tara, or why else would it have happened right after she'd heard Tara's voice inside of her head. 'Tara, what happened?' she ventured as her brow creased into a light frown.
She was unsure of what had happened really. She felt as if she'd liturally felt as if she had plunged into Tara's mind. It did not hurt, though it was momentarily disorientating. She was sure as it happened more frequently (assuming that it would) she would probably learn more about it, and how to use it herself. The only reason she assumed that she was unafraid was because somewhere deep inside her, close to her core she had felt Tara's presence. The fact that there was also an older Tara served as a comfort as well, no matter how un-Tara she'd seemed.
A small "oh" uttered by the woman in question brought Azure out of her own thoughts, and back into the lounge area. She turned to look at both Hadrian and Sirius. The baby really was a miniature likeness of his parents. Though he was a healthy weight you would expect for an infant of his age, he was smaller in terms of height. The top of his head was covered in very light thread-like strands of blonde hair. His skin was pale, like cream and Azure could already see that his eyes though right now they were tinged pink around the edges from crying, were going to brighten into the same duo-tones his father had, though the colors were swapped. His tear drop nose was small, and he pouted slightly as he slobbered on his three little fingers. Who knew a kid could look so adorable in a little onesie.
Sirius smiled toothlessly as Tara began to cluck over him, tickling his little feet. He curled his toes in response, and offered her lover a toothless smile, as he pulled his hand from his mouth. He just sat there in Hadrian's arms, comically, fascinated by the way Tara was touching his feet. Then he leaned forward, and started to wave his hand in front of him in an effort to pat Tara's head, and giggled. He poked Tara's forehead with two of his small wet little fingers, this time punctuating it with a single sound, "Wa!"
HADRIAN "Little mustard seed," Hadrian muttered with a touch of pride laced in the tone of his voice. From the corner of his eye, he saw Ruby smile. Once she had called Sirius the same thing, and went on to explain that a mustard seed grew into a great tree with many branches. That both Hadrian and Sage had very strong roots in them. If he's the seed, that made them the soil he grows from. It was a fitting sentiment. Mustard seeds were no larger than a pinhead, yet they grow into gigantic trees. And to think that from one cell, Sirius would someday be a full grown male.
After Barty decided to remind them that Tara and Azure had come to visit them, Hadrian focused his attention back towards the couple. Tara returned to stand beside Azure, and as Sirius realised that their little "game" was over, he curled back into Hadrian's chest, creating wrinkles in his father's loose shirt. He yawned, splayed his fingers and gazed up at his massive look-alike with one tiny hand sprawled out on his cheek. His eyes held nothing but utter trust, love and dependence.
Hadrian's boyish lips curved into smile, his brow relaxing while his eyes softened. He'd never experienced this sort of love before, save for Sage of course. For a baby, his son, the best way he could describe it was a mother's love in a father's body. "Wa!" Sirius punctuated once more.
Hadrian could imagine Sirius, Rosemary and Sasha playing together once both his and Ruby's infants were old enough. What were they going to be like when they grew older, he wondered. Would they be good kids? Sasha concerned him at times. Her growth had been accelerated somehow. It was almost as if she came to consciousness the moment her brain formed. Like all she knew to do at the time was to wait and become strong enough to survive in the world. So she could survive on her own.
Tara's voice broke Hadrian from his thoughts again. Damn where was his mind at? Well he was certainly focused now. "Wow," was his initial reaction. With eyes wide open, he glanced towards Ruby, and Barty trying to gauge their reaction's.
Azure seemed a little less... stuttery, then her partner. She brushed one of her hands against Tara's arms in an effort to soothe her nerves, he assumed, and stepped forward, putting on a braver face. "Yeah," she affirmed. "This evening."
She looked at the two Human's, alien, and alien-hybrid, awaiting a reaction. Some reaction. Any reaction.
"Well, love," Ruby seemed at a bit of a loss for words, though there was no denying she was obviously fine with the transition, "I'm very happy for you both!" To validate her sincerity, she walked forwards and offered the two vampiress' a warm embrace each. To the right of him, Hadrian could see a subtle look of approval just visible behind the usually stoical mask he normally wore.
" 'Grats," he nodded while he smirked, without making an effort to get up from his seat.
"How long had you been planning this?" Hadrian asked, not wanting to come off as if we was unenthused by the news, but his curiousy had been sparked.
"Well, I'd wanted to ask for a little while," Azure spoke up first, taking Tara's hand in her own. "But to be honest I never told her it was what I wanted until after she'd changed me."
"How'd it happen then?" Barty asked.
"Well..." Hadrian watched as Azure blushed. "It hadn't exactly been intentional."
Ruby seemed to be the first who caught on to the very subtle hint, and smirked in good humour.
"What's that mean?" Barty asked with a very bewildered expression, which incited Hadrian to laugh at his foster fathers obliviousness to the subtle hint. At the sudden movement of Hadrian's chest, Sirius grizzled and fidgeted in his arms, looking puzzled.
"Didn't know you were into that sort of stuff, Tara." Hadrian gently bounced Sirius in his arms, a mischievous smile playing upon his lips as he winked. "Though with you being a vampire, I shouldn't be so surprised."
"What?"Barty asked, again with the same confusion as before but also laced with a touch of annoyance this time as well.

“Where was I?” Azure asked Tara.
“Huh?” Tara whispered back. She took Azure’s hand and gave it a squeeze. “Right here, with me. Maybe you had another episode…it would make sense, your brain has gone through a lot lately.” She grinned lovingly, oblivious to what her own brain had just revealed, and turned her attention back to Sirius and Hadrian.
It was obvious that Tara loved children. She simply beamed as Sirius began interacting with her, poking her forehead and speaking his baby-chat to her. She grinned and grasped his little hands very gingerly in her own for a moment, leaning her head forward to rub noses with him. “You’re so cute.” She told him fondly, “And you’re going to look just like daddy when you’re all grown up I bet. But you’ll have your mother’s kindness, and your father’s charm I think. What do you think?” but he only answered her in the same babbling chatter that babies and young toddlers often begin with. It warmed her to see such a happy, healthy looking baby. Especially since poor Sage had wanted one so badly.
You’re going to be a great father, she thought as she looking back up at Hadrian. She missed her alien friend so much these days. Even though Tara would gladly give up all her attention to Azure, and she effectively had over the few months that they had been together, she would never stop wanting to be with her friends. Or, rather, her friend. She had never considered Xara a friend, and she would likely never consider Edison a friend either. Quam was her friend, but she did not have the history with Quam that she did with Hadrian (though she loved the cute little unicorn all the same). Hadrian was just one of those friends that she would likely never stop seeing as family. Hadrian was like a brother to her: the older brother she wished she had so many years ago when she was young and still new to the world and had still so much to learn about relationships and sex and her rights regarding them both. She had never felt the need to have a man in her life specifically, like some of her female co-workers had, but she always wondered what it would be like to have a brother. Would it be like they say it is? Would he protect her from boys, even when she didn’t particularly want to be protected? Would he pull pranks on her, and hold her when she cried? Would she be able to pull pranks on him, and play sports and games together, and fight and make up and share a secret world that only siblings could share? Who knew, maybe Tara had a brother or a sister and she did not know it. Fat chance of that though, she thought bitterly, mum offed herself before she could make another one.
That particular memory sent a shiver down her spine that made her feel nauseous, and she promptly averted her attention to something else.
Luckily for her, Barty’s cluelessness provided the perfect distraction. Tara grinned wryly, “They mean,” she dropped her voice down to a whisper and held her hand up to shield her lips from the prying eyes of toddlers, “sex, Barty.” She giggled. “I can’t believe he didn’t get that. For some reason I thought for sure he’d be the first to pick up on that.”
She chuckled, but then walked toward Hadrian and hugged him, mindful of Sirius. “I wanted you to be the first to know.” She told him softly. She pulled away and looked toward Ruby and Barty as well, flushed and nervous still. “You’re like a family to me. I figured you and Barty and Ruby would understand, better than anyone, how much I love Azure and…what this means for us both.”
It means we truly can be together forever, she thought quietly to herself. For some reason all of her doubts and hesitations toward thinking of their future as a couple disappeared. Suddenly she could finally feel comfortable in assuring Azure that they would be together forever—or rather, forever for Azure, but not for Tara. She had never said so before but it made her heart ache to think of one day having to lose Azure to old age, or disease. It would kill Tara to watch the love of her life slowly age and deteriorate while Tara herself lived a long and healthy life as an immortal being. But what made Tara feel like a horrible person was that she wanted to turn Azure into a vampire just so she could hold on to her forever. She felt selfish for wanting that because she did not know if Azure wanted that or not. Besides who was she to be ungrateful for what she could have, even if it is just for a human lifetime? She did not think she should be so selfish as to not be grateful that such a wonderful person could ever love Tara the way Azure did and, if Tara really loved Azure, she would find a way to get over losing her one day and should never—ever—try to change Azure into anything other than what she was. In Tara’s eyes, Azure was perfect, and to change her into anything other than she was… well, it was the worst thing that Tara could ever do. But since it had already happened and there was nothing anyone could do about it now, and knowing that Azure had wanted this even before it had accidentally happened, thoughts about the future became more plans than dreams, and Tara’s urge to ask Azure to become her wife grew stronger and stronger.
When the group decided to move to Hobart, Tara was a little apprehensive. She did not like moving…in fact she had barely moved as a child. The last time she ever remembered traveling was the year before her father died, and she had not had the best experience with that seeing as the outcome was her complete and total extinction of her family. She was sure there had to be more out there but they hadn’t bothered to find her so she figured they were likely not worth the trouble.
Azure and Tara decided to start up a business with their friend Geena, and together with Xara’s help they created their new burlesque club. Tara handled security, with Xara as back-up (and having been a warrior princess Xara was very effective back-up) while Geena, Azure, Xara and other girls, who were hired later on, performed. Tara and Azure moved in to a nice little apartment-castle, which was much roomier than their last one. Modeled in the loft-style, theirs was the nicest place Tara had ever lived in. She felt like a princess.
But soon their domestic life began feeling empty. Tara and Azure were ready for a baby. She did not know when or how it was decided, or even if it was. Perhaps they, as a couple, were so connected they both just knew? Either way, Tara immediately suggested adoption.
“I would have died for a good home when I was an orphan,” she explained, “I would like to be able to give that to someone else.”
But that dream would never become a reality for Tara. Despite passing all the background checks and tests, Azure and Tara were denied. Tara had two very likely theories as to why that was, but only one which really made any sense. With both vampires being in the ‘unstable’ stage of their species development there was still a chance either of them could lose control and accidentally decide little Johnny was a good snack. Though she could see the logic behind the caution, Tara was no less distressed by the fact that she would not be able to adopt a child and she suspected that the fact Azure and Tara were a lesbian couple had something to do with their rejection as well, which distressed her even farther. It was then that the couple decided to seek scientific and artificial assistance, which was where Dylan came largely into play.
Tara had received treatment to prepare her body for the experimentation that would hopefully result in a little mini-Tara one day, and she was very grateful for the compassion that Dylan and his team showed her and Azure as they suffered countless failures to conceive and two full-blown miscarriages. But as if in a miracle, Tara found herself pregnant a third time, and this time the baby was continuing to show signs of healthy development and she had reached the four- month mark, which was the longest a baby had ever gotten inside her vampiric womb.
She had not been talking much to Hadrian once she began her new life in Hobart, which was why she had been so shaken the day he died. Of course he was brought back to life again. Tara often wondered if she were just some fictional character in someone’s sick and twisted game-world, where terrible things would happen to her and be rectified in an endless cycle of tension and release. Would she ever get any rest, she wondered? She began to get in the mindset that no one she loved would ever die—how could the protagonists be killed? It would ruin the story. Hell, maybe her father was alive. Anything could happen, and anything that could happen, would. If her existence had taught her anything, it was that nothing she thought was real, or the truth, actually ever was. But it would be incredibly folly of her to believe she could coast along her life on the faith that nothing bad would ever permanently happen. With that in mind she promised she would never take any of her friends for granted again, including Hadrian, and Xara and Sasha. She visited Hadrian more and more often, and he visited her a few times as soon as he could get around on his own again after his accident, and it was during such a visit where she planned her engagement to Azure. Hadrian seemed not to have any more of an idea than Tara but it was good to bounce ideas off him, she thought, and within a few days everything was all set up.
Tara stood on the front balcony of the beach-house and rubbed her stomach therapeutically. “Hey baby, think your mommy will be surprised? I hope so. I hope she likes it...do you think she’ll like it? You know your mother and I are really excited to see you. Just keep getting bigger alright, and you will be out soon. You can see the sunshine! Being a vampire doesn’t mean you don’t get the sun. Actually I’m pretty sure we work like snakes… I always feel so much better after a sunning session. I don’t know. We’re weird… but it’s awesome.”
She smiled to herself. She talked to her baby like this all the time. Tara turned away from the ocean and walked into the luxurious beach home. It was all set up with rose petals and candles and in the backyard there were two cows that were genetically engineered specifically for vampires to feed on. It would not be a conventional dinner, but it would at least be romantic afterward. She had it all planned out: after dinner they would go for a walk on the moonlit beach. Tara would take her to a special place on the beach that was especially lovely, a place where she knew Azure would love. A cherry blossom tree sat in bloom there, covered in lovely pink flowers, and she would take Azure there, bend on one of her knees and ask her to marry her. It would be unforgettable, but frightening all the same.
Tara waited nervously for Azure, fiddling with the ring in her pocket. It was an impressive size, and the best cut a diamond could be, even though she knew Azure wouldn’t care if it was a diamond or a ring of grass. The pregnant woman was still admiring the ring when she heard someone approaching. It must have been Azure: who else could it be? Azure would have gotten the note Tara left on their bedroom door and followed the directions to the beach house. Giddy now, Tara stowed the ring away in her pocket and shuffled to the front door where she anxiously awaited the woman she hoped would agree to become her wife.
(( OOC: I did a big time-skip here and incorporated our ICC stuff as well I hope it was alright, just let me know if I overstepped boundaries or anything. I just had a sudden itch to post for Tara and Azure ^_^' and I thought her asking Azure to marry her should be something we rp officially on this site anyway. You can time-skip, say Tara asked her to marry her, and do whatever you like ))

[glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]“Where was I?” Hadrian spared Azure an odd glance at her question, seeing as she had been there the whole time he immediately drew the assumption that she'd probably had one of her "episode's" as Tara reffered it as. His vampiric friend did have a point. Seeing as Azure's mind was as it was, plus the impact of the venom which now flowed through her veins. Hadrian wouldn't lie. He knew little to nothing about vampires except from what he'd seen in movies; even then there were so many different types - disregarding the sparkly vampires in the Twilight Saga - from what he'd heard there were; Sanguinarian vampires. who fed on blood, usually provided by a willing donor. The Danug, a Filipino vampire, there were Estrie's, Upier's, Nelapsi, and finally a Stregoni benefici; Italian vampires said to be on the side of goodness, and a mortal enemy to all evil vampires. They fed on animal's, instead of Human's.
Who knew what nationality either vampiress was, but Hadrian was certain that both girl's were Stregoni benefici. Obviously the temptation for Human blood was there; after all Azure had been reborn. But the willpower to remain abstinent was possible, and commendable. It was with this thought in mind Hadrian showed no hessitation, or anxiety in allowing Tara to fuss over the small blonde bundle in his arms. He trusted Tara, more than he knew himself.
Like his father, Sirius loved to touch things. It was natural instinct to feel, and to smell. And apparently put almost everything he got his chubby little hands on in his mouth. Tara was lucky he hadn't grabbed a fistful of her hair and tried to eat it already. The growing tot had almost given Hadrian slobbery dreadlocks on more than one occasion; much to the irritation of both Hadrian and Ruby, who had been begging her extraterrestrial son to let her trim his hair for months.
“You’re so cute. And you’re going to look just like daddy when you’re all grown up I bet. But you’ll have your mother’s kindness, and your father’s charm I think. What do you think?” Hadrian beamed, at the praise Tara had given both himself, and Sage. Charm? He was flattered, and felt a rush of affection towards his friend. Hadrian feared just like any parent; hoping that Sirius grew up healthy, and happy. That he find a partner, male or female, interspecies or outerspecies. He wanted to be the best parent he could be. He wanted to be as stern, caring, understanding, and forgiving as his parents; not biological, but Human. He hadn't forgotten his biological parents - like elephant's, an Andromed never forget's - but he had never been completely comfortable in the love and guidance given to him as a child. They were not the parent's Barty or Ruby were, and it was his two foster parents he both admired, and aspired to be like when it came to parenting. Without the regular head-slaps of course.
He'd always been an only child. Gugh had been the closest thing to a brother he'd ever had, up until Earth. Quam filled in that gap quite perfectly. Better, in fact. The unicorn had this charm, a charisma that kind of attracted most people. Hadrian got the impression that his friend didn't really know he had it - it was an unconcious appeal - though it wasn't something he used on purpose. He had an effect on people and benefit from it.
Tara had been his first female friend; the night they met would remain fresh in his mind for a very long time. He had rescued her, he supposed in a sense, from her ex-boyfriend and potential drug-addict girlfriend by offering her a ride on the back of his Harley. They intrusted eachother the truth of their species, and bonded. The friendship grew from there. Xara was also a very good friend to him; Tara and Xara probably almost equal on the friendship scale, though he admired them both in different and similar ways. Edison? Well... he was a bit of a conundrum. His motives tended to change as erratically as his moods - which happened more than frequently - and most of his action's were concerned chiefly with his own personal profit or pleasure. You were never sure what the guy was planning next. Hadrian would not call him a friend, though perhaps he wasn't too far off it. Again, it was too hard to tell. The day Edison actually hugged him after they'd gotten out of the Fascility the first time definately shook Hadrian's original opinion of the demon. Then he reaffirms his original judgement by doing something completely appaling.
As for Sage; she had shown him an act of pure kindness the night they had met. She hadn't needed to, nor had Hadrian expected it. In some way Sage reminded him of Ruby in regards to kindness, and their warm, loving personalities. Wasn't it sometimes people say that a son often chooses a mate who is similar in personality to their mothers? Though they were similar, Hadrian tend to believe that out of herself, and her brother, Hadrian knew that his girlfriend-to-be at the time was unlike any person he'd ever met, or would meet again. She reminded him of fire. Fire was distracting. It filled your eyes with light. Sometimes Sage filled Hadrian's eyes with so much light he found it hard to focus on anything else.
His thoughts were pulled away from his musings, however, as Tara explained to Barty what they had meant in regards to the biting. Hadrian grinned, followed by a lusty, warm laugh. The spontanious emusement had been unexpected. Hadrian was a fairly staid man, and though he smiled very easily, he seldom laughed outloud. When he did, the unreserved exhuberance often came as a surprise, even to himself.
Hadrian shifted his gaze towards Barty, who apparently found it less than amusing, looking abashed at his own cluelessness. Despite his own chagrin, Hadrian was able to detect a ghost of a smile play about the corner of the farmers' mouth. "Barty isn't as informed on some peoples more deviant taste in bedroom activities," Hadrian explained, grinning at his vampiric friend.
As Tara stepped towards him for a hug, Hadrian responded with more warmth, less surprise than what he had as he met his friend and her partner at the front door. Being mindful of Sirius, he adjusted the baby so that he was still able to wrap his free arm around Tara, brushing his cheek against her's. “I wanted you to be the first to know.” She spoke, first to him, and then turned to address them as a group. “You’re like a family to me. I figured you and Barty and Ruby would understand, better than anyone, how much I love Azure and…what this means for us both.”
Hadrian adjusted Sirius in his arm's, watching Ruby as she placed a hand on her own chest, sniffed and then stepped forward to wrap Tara in a warm embrace. Azure stepped to the side, looking a little embarassed before Ruby then turned to her, and hugged her the same. To his surprise, Barty was the first to speak up. "You know that you girl's are welcome here," he looked at the two vampires with a cordial regard. "Goodness knows that when this one showed up," he pointed a thumb in Hadrian's direction, and he returned the gesture with a raised eyebrow and a barely hidden smirk. "We've turned into a bit of a half-way house for paranormals." And Hadrian knew that he had meant it.
-- The thought of drifting apart from Tara had hurt Hadrian just a little more than he'd let on. The fact that it had actually been happening hurt just a little bit more. How many times had he wanted to visit, but the longer you procrastinate anything, the harder it is to return to it. He supposed that included visiting friends, no matter how much you missed their company. The same thing had happened when he's spent too much time away from the famhouse. Hadrian had left with little warning, and when he returned so that he could introduce Sage, he'd recieved a right hook to the nose as a welcome, compliments of Barty.
Regrettably, it hadn't been until after Hadrian's recent passing and resurrection did the two of them begin to reestablish their bond. Unexpectedly, in the meantime Hadrian had found himself becoming a bit more aquainted with Dylan. Of course he hadn't been given much choice - the good Doctor had insisted on keeping close vigilant on Hadrian despite his regular refusal. Hadrian could remember one particular conversation he'd had with Dylan - well it was more Dylan speaking while Hadrian just tried to walk away - it wasn't until after this when Hadrian slowly began to (begrudgingly) accept the doctors assistance.
It was morning; two day's after Tara had driven Hadrian home from Edison's place. Of course Dylan had decided to show up early, immediately making small remarks on the swollen bruises on the front of his chest over the lung, and his back. The bruises would fade in time, though his muscles would certainly ache in protest for a while. He was obviously loosing sleep, and reluctantly admitted that he had hardly slept since he'd come home. Not that it wasn't obvious. Minor dark circles had formed under his eyes. He'd complained of headaches, and was even more easily irritable than usual. It was on this second day, once Dylan had completed a general check-up on Hadrian's bruises, heart-rate, breathing, nutrition levels etcetera, when he first suggested the alien was experiencing some form of posttraumatic stress disorder, and after Dylan actually had to explain what it was, Hadrian became quite riled over the suggestion.
"Honestly Hadrian, you are one of the most unreasonable, headstrong men I have ever encountered," Dylan's voice was low, with an underlying vexation. Though Hadrian had no doubt he'd deny it if Hadrian called him on it, out of fear of any sort of discord. It was for this reason, and Hadrian's more obvious irritation, the alien simply scowled, then turned his back and began to walk away, towards the kitchen. Of course he still walked at a hobble, seeing as since he had died, and had been deceased for over a half hour as far as Dylan knew, the muscles in his body had lost strength, atrophied with the complete absense of blood flow.
"Wait." Dylan called, but Hadrian kept walking angrily - Dylan caught up, keeping pace. "I'm sorry, that was rude." Dylan said as they walked. Hadrian ignored him, opened the fridge and looking inside, moving things around as if he was searching for something. Dylan knew the guy was intentionally disregarding him - poorly - so he continued, "I'm not saying it isn't true, but it was rude to say anyway."
Hadrian closed the fridge, and offered Dylan an appraising look. "That was probably the boldest thing I've ever heard you say," he smirked. Then, after a moments hessitation, Dylan smiled too. "Now... explain it to me again?"
In Hadrian's defence (and often his amusement) Dylan was pretty easy to defy. He was a bit of a pushover. There was no doubt in Haddy's mind it was Xara who was more dominant in the relationship. Barty would not have put up with 1/2 of the crap Hadrian had gladly dished out to Dylan, for the sake of his own entertainment. Of course Dylan would never be the type to smack a person over the head, and in a way that's what made it so easy. Dylan seemed like the sort of person who'd lose sleep over treading on an ant. Of course Hadrian was well aware it was all for his own benefit. but he was entitled to some fun, right?
Tara had visited a few times, and her presense was often more welcomed than Dylan's. Hadrian knew that if she asked how he was, and if he answered (more willingly then if the doctor had asked), she would not pry as much. For the first day Hadrian looked both physically and mentally drained. He had not slept much since coming home, save for a short snooze in the car on the way home, and even then he'd been restless, and had dreamt of something frightening.
He was lying in the sunshine, with his eyes closed. He could feel the warmth of the sun on his body, and see red behind his eyelids as he turned his head to the sun. He felt relaxed and peaceful, and there was music coming from somewhere... soft, and soothing. There were voices, low and melodic. Someone was crying. Hadrian tried to see who it was. He pried his eyes open, but he couldn't move. Quam was looking at him, his expression was sorrowful and there were dark circles under his eyes. His mouth was moving but Hadrian couldn't hear what he was saying. Oh my God, was he deaf? When did that happen? Quam moved away and Tara comes up. She was crying; tears rolling uncontrolled down her pale, beautiful cheeks. Azure was with her, she had her arm around her shoulders and she looked like she was going to cry too. What the hell is going on? There's Xara, she said something and puts a rose on my chest. Dylan was next, looking older than Hadrian had ever seen him look. He couldn't hear what he was saying either. Sage was next. She didn't say anything, but her eyes were bright and she looked like she was going to burst into tears any minute.
Edison approached, then reached over above him and started to pull something down. Hadrian realized he was in a coffin and they were closing it. Hadrian tried to scream, to yell that he was still alive, but he couldn't move or make a sound. He heard something hit the box and he realized they were shoveling dirt over the coffin. Hadrian struggled to move, to pound on the lid to get their attention. He was trying to scream but nothing came out. He couldn't breathe. He heard a shrill buzzing in his ears...
He woke in the backseat of Tara's car with a jolt, bleary-eyed, confused, looking as if he'd just fallen 20 feet.
The last time Hadrian had seen Tara he'd promised Dylan he wouldn't. Nothing against Tara, of course. The Doc hadn't wanted Hadrian "overtaxing" himself. With Sage's concent, (she is probably one of the very few people he'd actually ask for approval) he drove there mere 5 minutes to Tara and Azure's home.
While there, the conversation took a fairly unexpected turn. Tara asked about marriage. Not with him of course! She'd wanted his opinion on how he thought she should go about proposing. It made him think. He'd never considered matrimony, to actually join with one single person for life. That was before Earth. Before Sage. If he were to do it, he'd mused, he would want to propose by the water; the ocean, or a lake. He'd thought of this because he had grown up by the water, so it seemed fitting. He also knew that Tara had taken Azure to a Lakehouse, which from what he'd heard, it had been both very romantic... and very significant for the both of them. It had been during this time at the lakehouse, when Tara had accidentally bitten Azure in worked up passion, turning the lovely experiment into a vampiress.
Would Sage say yes, if he asked? He did not see why she would not. He loved her more passionately than he'd ever loved a female before. He loved Sirius at first sight. Perhaps he would, he mused. Perhaps he'd make an honest man of himself.
Azure liked to think that she knew Tara almost better than most of their combined friends. Though despite that belief, Tara never seased to surprise her at times. Good surprises, of course. For although a fair amount of uncertainty swum around their band of misfits, some fortune shon down upon them.
For one - Tara was pregnant! After two miscarriages, they had successfully concieved their own bioligical offspring. Of course none of it would have been possible without the help of Dr. Dylan Hope; miracle worker. For someone with such a remarkable, gifted mind he could have probably chosen to work at any hospital, or lab of his choice. Yet he wished to remain in Hobart, with Xara and Sasha so that the girls were able to stay close to their friends. Even Sasha was beginning to excel in her schooling, and had made a close friend in a young girl called Candy, who had also begun living with the small family.
Of course Dylan hadn't done it alone. He had a small team of people, as well as one who considered herself an expert in vampiric anatomy, assist him in the treatment and conception of the small fetus which grew stronger inside of Tara's womb every single day.
They were unsure of how to go about having a baby at first; adoption had been considered. Seeing as Tara grew up without a mother and a father it seemed fitting that they ought to adopt a little boy or girl to fill the small gap which they had felt grow as their own relationship, and bond grew stronger.
Of course they were denied. The conclusion Azure had instantly drawn was that it was in thanks to their feeding habits. It was true that they would be a constant risk around anyone; man, woman or child. But it was animal's (large, genetically altered animals) which provided them with the strength and sustinance they required to survive.
That was when Dylan stepped in, and suggested artificial insemination. It was a trial which had only been successfully carried out a small handful of times. Artificial blank stem cells, taken from a woman's bone marrow which were then cultivated into a "chemical soup" which made the sperm cells. They were then transplanted into the second womans eggs for treatment. It seemed like a simple process just judging off of the explanation, but it had taken a lot of patience, tears, and time for it to become a reality. At four month's, both mother, and baby were healthy.
Azure was wholly grateful to Dylan for everything that he'd done for them. The man was often left thankless for the deed's in which he'd put his own time and thought into. It was for this reason Azure decided to make an effort to show him how grateful she was, as well as make more time to get to know the guy; her friends mate, and man who'd helped them so greatly. She was possibly the first person who had asked Dylan if he was alright after the whole Edison vs Hadrian ordeal.
Dylan explained that he had been left slightly dissapointed in himself. That he'd been thinking about all of it mathmatically; using calculation's and odd's. The result's in which he came up with had been inaccurate, which made him feel he'd let people down with his shortcoming. He had neglected to remind himself of the Chaos Theory; everything, every tiny little thing was subject to change. There was also first impression's to keep in mind, and how thorough his observation's had been. He'd used it as a test of his own character, and challenged his own inteligence.
Take their Fascility mission for example; Dylan had mentally calculated what he thought were fairly accurate odds in regards to who may come out of it alive, injured, or dead. He had picked Xara as the very least likely person to get injured. She had almost been killed, in fact. Edison with his broken leg, and Hadrian was a dislocated shoulder and concussion. He had picked Quam would have been the most likely to get injured, and apart from some close scares, he was relatively unscathed. As was Barty, Azure, and Tara.
Dylan knew very little about how to face physical violence in practice, or verbal for that matter. He had never taken a self defense class; karate, judo, boxing... yet he knew a lot about it through study.
For Dylan, it was something that has always been there, in the back of his mind nestled between the numbers and equations. Hell, most of the thoughts occured in forms of equations. Calculations of height and force of impact or angles and the pressure behind a blade or even how much energy needed to stop a heart. The thought's were always there throughout the ordeal, some ordinary, some innovated and unique but always there.
The thoughts never leave but that doesn't mean he was always thinking about it, his mind didn't work like that. Sometimes the equations of getting injured, and death got pushed forward more then the rest. He knows that isn't normal but then again, nothing about Dylan Hope has ever been normal. Dylan did not want to die, he really didn't but the thoughts and numbers were there, that's all. He was just aware of the possibilities.
That was why Dylan felt as if he'd fallen through as a man of science and inteligence the day Hadrian was killed, and ressurected. Although he knew that there had been absolutely nothing he could have done to prevent what Edison had done to Hadrian, or make the situation any more bareable, or even knew that it was going to happen, mind you, it did not ease his belief that he had failed in some way.
Azure felt sorry for the guy, but had also felt she had needed to chastise him for his thoughts. Dylan had to learn how to switch off nerd-mode and just relax.
She hadn't seen either Hadrian or Edison though. By choice mind you. She could have visited if she'd wanted to but what could she have said? She barely knew Hadrian and Edison... well, she had thought she knew him well enough. He had no control over his reputation anymore, it's impossible, and everyone knows that. Edison's reputation was officially fucked. But it's not like it should really matter because it means he could do whatever the hell he wanted to, which he did anyway, by the way — add Hadrian, and the two of them constantly running their mouths at one another, it equaled a deadly mix.
Despite what Edison had done though, Hadrian had remained deceptively sedate on the subject, particularly with Quam. Only Tara, Dylan, and Xara to some degree knew the basic's of what Hadrian was really feeling, and of course Sage was the only one who had any real idea of exactly what was going through his mind.
Dylan's theory was that Hadrian was either trying to repress what had happened, or though the alien could be difficult at the best of times, but it seemed at the worst of times his propensity to help people won out. He wanted to ease their concerns for him.
The one time Azure did choose to visit, it was while Dylan was looking him over in the late afternoon. She had been on the way to the Club and decided that it was as good a time as any.
Hadrian had let Azure watch as Dylan took some blood from him, stating that he wished to take a sample to examine his condition. He'd explained that he would be able to evaluate how well Hadrian's organs — such as the kidneys, liver, thyroid, and heart — were working.
"You know, you could always invent like…some vacuum-thing that suck's up demon's… or douse me in chemicals like that comic character guy in the Bronx, what's his name? Blind Devil?" Hadrian began to rant, trying to distract himself from the needle sticking out of his arm, filling a small glass bottle with his bright red blood. He sat with his shirt off - Dylan had just checked over his bruises - they were an ugly mixture of purple, green, and pinks. 'Oh, Hadrian,' she had winced in sympathy once she noticed.
"Daredevil," Dylan corrected while he worked. Azure was surprised Hadrian knew anything about comics or heroes dating so far back. Then again, she'd been informed he'd managed a vidoe store at one stage. "And if you did live in that universe you had better not call him Blind Devil in public. I think that's like, uh, top secret information that SHIELD got by illegitimate means,"
"Nooooo," Hadrian feigned shock. "Fury? Spying on people? I won't believe it. I refuse." Dylan shot a grin at Azure, who smiled in return, dropping her amused gaze to the floor.
But anyway... back to the present. We've digressed. It was late afternoon by the time Azure pulled up to the small two space carport built-in next to a large, white worn stone, contemporary, square shaped house. Her mouth had liturally dropped upon arival. Tara had only given her a half days notice that she was expected to pack some essential's for a couple of day's away from work. Geena had been more than willing to take over of course - Azure had the impression her red-haired friend was in on whatever Tara had organised - and as Azure neared the end of her last shift, the woman could not get her out the door fast enough.
It was with some cautious suspition Azure packed some thing's, noting first that Tara had left her a note on their bedroom door, stating that she had already left, and a list of direction's to the place she was going to meet her.
The house itself was large, two-story, raised from the ground, embracing a sweeping view of the beach. Large glass windows faced towards the ocean, offering a perfect view of what was inside. Despite the apparent lack of privacy, there was no other home for at least a few km's, so it did not matter.
The the first floor was the living space, with the kitchen, and an entertaining space. Up the wooden staircase you'd find the bedroom, fitted with the only curtains to offer privacy for the intimate space, an attached bathroom, and a small balcony which faced the morning light. Azure would later find that a large heated pool sat on the roof, complete with a unique glass view from the bedroom, and area below the sweeping wooden staircase, producing a translucent light for the south-facing room. Each segment of the house was oriented to capture light and views.
Azure adjusted the handle of her small luggage bag and pulled it along with her, into the house. If you thought that she was shocked by the outside of the place, you'd have loved her reaction to the inside. Rose petals, in an assortment of red's, pink's and white led a trail from the door, to the staircase. Glass bowls sat, attractively arranged around the marble counters, filled with small bouquet's of white roses.
Azure began to walk up the stairs - while being mindful not to tread on the petals - an aroma of scented candles filled her nose, and she soon found herself standing in the middle of the square-shaped bedroom, completely lit up with a warm tawny glow. The bed was queen-sized, with a white duvet, and pillows the color of strawberry yogurt. There was a railing over the bed, with mosquito netting to serve two purposes; give a little more privacy if the window's were left open, and of course, keep insects away.
She paid little more attention to anything else for now, of course, as soon as her gaze fell upon Tara, her beautiful, wonderful lover standing on the balcony. She had absolutely gushed over the magnificence of the place, how much trouble Tara must have gone to in order to organise this, how she was going to punch Geena in the shoulder for being so good at keeping it all a secret... she'd even lightly told off the small bump in Tara's womb for being so secretive.
"Dinner" had been left outside, fenced off in the backyard area. Azure was utterly stumped as to how Tara had managed to get two cow's here without any apparent trouble. It hadn't been particularly clean meal; Azure had accidently gotten a little of the cow's life fliud around her mouth, and hand's. But by the time she'd had a prompt shower, and dressed in a yellow bikini and light purple sarong, she was ready to follow Tara outside once she had suggested they take a walk by the beach.
It reminded Azure so much of their time spent together at the lakehouse. The two of them walked together, hand in hand along the wet sand which shone along the beach as dusk slowly lapsed into night. Star's were just beginning to appear in the vast canvas that was the sky above them, splattered with red's, oranges, and even some purples as the sun dissapeared over the horizon.
The temperature was cool, almost warm and surprisingly, there was no wind. It left Azure was a feeling of pure serenity, save for the beauty she was currently walking hand-in-hand with, feeling the water rush to meet them, played with their toes, before retreating back into the ocean. It was a place of peace, of perfection. Of remembering.
They walked for some time, trailing just a little way away from the shoreline as the approached a beautiful pink-flowered cherry blossom tree. Underneath it was a white blanket, and lined around that, placed firmly into the sand were several deep purple candles. Azure gasped at the mere beauty of the setting while Tara led her to the blanket.
At first Azure was going to lower herself to sit on the blanket before Tara's gentle hand's pulled her back to her feet. Azure looked at her girlfriend with a questioning expression, before it suddenly dawned on her, and her heartrate spiked. Tara knelt, and with a free hand, reached for something in her pocket. Azure's free hand flew to her mouth, and tear's trembled in the corner's of her eyes as they threatened to overflow.
Then... Tara asked the question which would mark their fate forever. "Yes!" She cried, choking back a sob of joy as she dropped to her knees in front of her now-fiance and threw her arms around the vampiress' shoulders, cradling the back of Tara's head as she pressed her lips firmly against the soft pink-toned lips of the woman she loved.
In her excitement, Azure almost forgot another important part - the ring! Leaning back so that she could put just a little space in between herself and Tara, she allowed the vampiress to gently grasp her left hand and push the gold diamond ring onto her ring-finger. Azure's breath hitched at the sight of it, before letting the small rush of air escape her mouth a little more slowly as she gawked at it.
Tear's of joy rolled down Azure's cheeks as she grasped her fiance's hands in her own as the stars kept a close eye on them from above. "I love you," she smiled, a little more composed as she stared deeply into Tara's eyes. "More than I can ever say, and I want to spend the rest of our existance together." She leaned forwards and kissed the woman deeply again.
------- Azure stood on the balcony, staring off into the deep cerulean ocean, listening as the waves rolled in and out against the sand. The moon shone bright in the sky, almost full, and danced like a million crystals on the ocean's water, which seemed to expand forever, further than the eye could see.
She stood barefoot beside Tara, with one arm wrapped around her waist and head resting on her shoulder. She had changed from the bikini and sarong, this time dressed in a more simple spaghetti strap sink nightgown, which stopped just below her knees. On her other hand, the diamond ring which marked proof of their new engagement sparkled as the moon bathed the couple in a white glow. Turning her head, Azure kissed Tara's shoulder tenderly before looking up at her fiance. "This is just so perfect," she smiled girlishly. "you are perfect. You make my life complete."
She stared into the water again, calmed by the pure serene atmosphere which surrounded them. She was silent for about a minute, before she decided to speak again. "I want to spoil you as much as you spoil me," she mused without looking away from what was in front of them. "Tell me," she glanced up again. "Tell me exactly what you'd like to do. I could run you a bath? Maybe we could take a swim in the pool?"[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

'She said yes!'
Tara grinned down at her touch-screen phone as she texted the happy news to Hadrian, who she was sure would be thrilled to hear the positive outcome. He had expressed very little in the way of doubts that Azure would say yes to becoming Tara's fiancé and some-day wife. He assured Tara that there would be little chance of Azure declining and, Tara thought in silent agreement, it was likely only a matter of time before Azure cooked together a plan to become betrothed herself. For some reason, though, Tara had wanted to be the one to pop the question.
She was surprised by her initiative on the subject of marriage and how quickly and readily she was to embrace it. The night before the day Tara proposed, the jittery woman tried to figure out what it was that made her want to be the one to propose so badly. The first thing she thought of that may have been a factor was her previous experience with her relationships and that of her parents. Although, she remembered very little of her life with a full functioning family despite only being around nine or ten years old when her mother was found dead in their bathroom and ten or eleven when her father was killed. She was never sure of her age since, once being transformed into an immortal being; she had found it less important to measure age. But ever since she was young, in her pre-teen age, Tara had never felt as if she had control over herself or her life. As if she were simply a figurine standing on some moving platform of which she had no control or say in where or how fast it went. She always thought that perhaps if she had had more control she could have helped her mother, instead of being frozen in terror when her mother locked herself up in the bathroom, and sitting on the sofa unable to move or talk or call for help. When her father was murdered, she thought, maybe there was something more she should have done to try to save him. She should have carried a rock, or thrown a knife or even carried a gun to shoot the guy before he short her dad. Before her parent’s death Tara’s memories of the couple were hard to call pleasant. There were mostly bickering and yelling and crying, due to her mother’s crippling depression following whatever horror had been inflicted on her.
Tara’s own relationships had all been one-sided for the most part, leaving her feeling more like a toy than a partner. Whenever she got talking about her relationships with someone, and explained how terrible it was to be with those people, they assumed Tara was the one who broke it off. What person in their right mind would let their girlfriend treat them as poorly as Tara had let her previous (and first) girlfriend treat her? But the truth was that Tara had never ended a relationship with anyone in her entire life. Even when Xara had stabbed her in the stomach (for reasons the vampire woman still did not understand) Tara considered their friendship on an indefinite hold, not completely ended. Whenever a relationship ended Tara felt as if she had been thrown off the moving vehicle and into a state of suspension, floating in a dead area while other vehicles zoomed past her in the darkness until one of them snagged on her outreached hand and tugged her forward again, into the sunlight. Tara feared the darkness, and perhaps that is why she clung to all of those less-than-optimal relationships for so long.
But with Azure… before Azure, I should say, when Hadrian was still helping her cope with being a vampire, Tara had a moment when she finally became tired of being out of control of her life. She did not have to be in the darkness, watching as other people experienced happiness and success while she rotted in the gutters beneath them like some wretched insect. It finally felt as if she had her own vehicle to control and even though she did not live in a house, or eat food regularly, or own any nice clothes or other things, she felt as if she was finally in control and she did what she wanted. She took initiative to do with her life what she wanted, and what she needed, and that night she had chosen that sleazy motel where her now-fiancé Azure stumbled drunkenly into her life. Azure guided Tara in the same manner that someone guides a new driver learning how to drive within their own side of the road, so as to help them avoid landing themselves in a ditch. It requires patience, understanding and forgiveness and eventually Tara became confident and every day she found herself taking more and more risks. She was wearing clothing that, while it was not quite as revealing as her fiancé was known to wear, was designed to be more form fitting than the two-sizes-too-big sweaters and tee-shirts that she was known for wearing. She began wearing cosmetics, painting her nails, doing her hair differently. She was speaking more, laughing more, telling more jokes, and found it easier to open herself up to her friends and pseudo family. Tara loved Azure, and she would do anything for her. It seemed only right for Tara to express this in the only way that made sense in her culture, and that was proposal to marriage. Tara was slightly worried Azure would decline, for what can a stupid trinket and a document say about the love two people have for each-other? But on the other hand, there was the wedding, and as many people that wanted to come could come and see for themselves that Azure and Tara loved each-other and were prepared to make a legal, official statement declaring their dedication. And if Tara thought about it that way, which she often did, the whole affair seemed less ridiculous.
So why didn’t she wait for Azure to ask?
Tara smirked slyly to herself as she waited for her fiancé to change into her nighty (totally not imagining her naked…nuh uh, not at all!), and considered her question again. She supposed she liked the whole romance-thing as much as Azure did and, to be honest, the whole thing was kind of fun and cute, if not petrifying. She thought her heart was going to race away from her when she knelt down to ask Azure for her hand in marriage, although she knew the answer pretty much as soon as Azure started to cry. Tara felt such a sense of pride and accomplishment when she finally slipped the diamond ring on Azure’s finger…she thought she could lay on the beach with her forever.
But, alas, they did end up moving back to the beach house. When she was also texting Hadrian, Tara had gone back to the house to grab her bag. Inside it was everything she owned from her parents and family. She had never had the time to show Azure her family portraits like she had wanted to. Or… she had skillfully avoided it. After their last getaway Tara had lost all her courage and desire to talk about her past in terribly great detail. Tara clung to Azure as they walked arm-in-arm back to the house. Tara had left their blanket and candles where they were and texted Hadrian as she awaited Azure’s return. She pocketed the phone and melted into Azure’s embrace, snuggling her head into Azure’s own.
“This is just so perfect, you are perfect. You make my life complete. I want to spoil you as much as you spoil me, Tell me, tell me exactly what you'd like to do. I could run you a bath? Maybe we could take a swim in the pool?"
Tara grinned and shook her head. “I don’t want anything. All I want is to spend time with you…as long as you’re with me I don’t really care where we are, or what I’m doing.” She hugged Azure closely and inhaled her scent in luxury. She sighed, “Hm. What does a newly engaged couple do for fun? Aside from each-other.” Tara smirked, then blinked at her own nerdy remark, but she figured that if Azure did not like her stupid puns and pathetic jokes by now, she wouldn’t have agreed to spend the rest of her days hearing them. She grinned and kissed Azure’s cheek lovingly.
“Actually…there is one thing I kind of always wanted to do.”
Tara gave her lover an excited, girlish look and dragged her toward the stairs that led to the beach. “You’ll probably think it’s…dumb.” She grinned sheepishly, “but…I’ve always wanted to try it.” She squished her toes in the sand once they reached it and lowered herself down onto the ground. Her protruding belly was making it a bit more difficult to move. Her baby had been growing a bit faster than a human baby. It was expected that she would only carry it for six or seven months as opposed to nine or ten. She crossed her legs and looked down at the sand before her, then up at Azure. “I’ve always wanted to build a sand-fortress. I know it probably sounds... well, childish.”
She shrugged and began building up a mound of sand to be sculpted into a fierce dragon-repelling fortress of awesomeness. She chuckled and destroyed the mound to build another, then began placing some of it in Azure’s lap, smirking and chortling to herself. The sand was cool and moist and she enjoyed the feel of it between her toes. “Actually…Azure… I brought something I wanted to show you. I promised I would bring it and show you and I never did. So…” She pulled the bag toward her and grinned, “There’s everything I have from my life before… I guess before I became a vampire—which is before I met you.”
Inside the bag was a large photo album, some trinkets that included a necklace, her childhood toy, and her father’s ring. “The one you’re wearing was the one he gave my mother when they got engaged. He gave it to me before he died.” Tara smiled, “I don’t know how they would feel about me marrying another woman but I like to think that my mother would want me to give it to you.”
Tara reached into her bag and pulled out the photo album, then opened it to the first page. She had not opened it in a long time, and she felt her hands shake slightly as she flipped the page and saw, for the first time in a long time, the faces of her deceased parents. She sighed softly, “That’s mum. Her name was Dahlia…and there’s dad, obviously. His name was Erik.”
Her mother was a smiling woman with light brown hair that hung in a thick curtain of silky rings, and gentle sparkling eyes. Her father was shorter with spikey black hair. He wore a red shirt that accentuated his handsome features. In his arms he held his little baby-girl. Tara was swaddled securely in his arms, looking rather un-flattering as a new-born. She was tiny, bald, pruny and red. Tara flipped the page. There were more pictures of her mother, playing with Tara, bathing and feeding her. There was another photo with her father asleep on the floor with Tara, who was crawling all over him. No doubt her mother was giggling wildly over this as she snapped the photo. Tara smiled, “My mum was a-uh… a sort of an accountant or something. Dad was teacher and a librarian. We had a quiet house I think… the television was never on, the radio was only on sometimes. My dad meditated a lot….I don’t think I helped him very much.” She grinned down at the picture and ran her hand over it gently. The blond woman passed her fiancé the book. “You can take a look through this if you want. There isn’t much…just a few from when I was a bit older…some more embarrassing kid photo’s y’know.”
Tara pulled her pack toward her and gently retrieved her large diary book. “I…” she placed it in her lap and looked down at it for a while, “I guess, if you want, you can look through this. I mean, I really don’t mind. You’re going to be my wife… so … I guess I’m giving this to you.” She handed Azure the book and grinned slightly. “It’s not very interesting, just some…ramblings I guess. I mean since we can share memories now I guess it kind of defeats the purpose but, oh well. I just,” she sighed and nibbled her bottom lip thoughtfully, “I feel like… well we’re having a baby together and one day we’re going to be married. I feel like I want to share more about my past with you. Am I being too drama-ish?”
It felt weird to be opening up like this, even to Azure. She leaned into Azure’s shoulder and cuddled her arm, staring out into the ocean. “I mean… I know you and your mom don’t have the best relationship and, I dunno, maybe I’m being too…forward I guess with wanting to get to know her? What do you think? Do you even want to try? I just wanted to make a connection with your past I suppose. Is that okay?”
(( I didn't remember her parent's names I hope this was alright. I know you wanted it to be a cute thing. I can post some Tara diary entries later on if you would like them ^_^ I might do that in the 'Logs and Blogs' thread. Up to you where you want it to go from here! you can change the setting and make Tara go places with Azure or whatever you want to do. Up to you! :3 ))

[glow=red,2,300]Hello, hello, are you listening? Hello, hello, are you there? You've tuned the voices out but now the symptoms are everywhere You are, you are, you are part of this I know you think you're much more You better think again Because you're one defenceless animal [/glow]It was just after 9pm by the time Hadrian recieved the txt from Tara. He and Sage had gotten Sirius settled into bed an hour ago, and the two of them had been lazing on the couch, talking while some movie about comic-book heroes played in the background on the television screen.
They were both clad in their pyjamas; Hadrian himself wore a pair of light blue checkered pants, and a white shirt with long sleeves, while Sage wore a pink nightgown with long sleeves. This is where they usually found themselves as of late, with Hadrian laying across the couch with his head resting in Sage's lap. She would stroke his hair whilst he lay there, until his eyes became so heavy he could no longer hold them open.
It had been that way for a short while, now. Ever since Tara had driven him home - ever since coming back from what Edison had done to him - Hadrian had barely slept. Even when they went to bed with Hadrian barely able to move, with the bruises making it virtually impossible for him to do anything but lay beside his beloved, he would have it no other way. Having Sage near him, knowing that she was also safe and with him, he was happy. Who wouldn't be?
As Hadrian's eyes began to flutter shut, he could feel Sage's slender fingers comb through his long brown hair, the warmth of her body around him bringing a small smile to his lips. If this was the way he was meant to spend his nights, enfolded in Sage's warm embrace and then falling asleep in her arms, then he could think of no better nirvana.
Hadrian would always know when Sage awoke before him, her eyes following the pathway that her fingers did as they explored the tattoo running down and along his arm. And still, he would have it no other way.
"Would you still love me if I had only one eye?" He asked, slightly drowsy.
"What kind of question is that, Haddy?" Sage asked, continuing to stroke his hair.
"I'd love you if you only had one eye." She laughed, "I would love you if you only had one eye."
"What about a peg leg?"
"I'm sensing a pattern."
"Seriously."
"Of course, Haddy. No matter what you look like or how many appendages you're missing. I would still love you."
"What if…"
"Hadrian… go to sleep."
As he'd asked her that, he'd reminded his own self of something that his old friend Gugh had said, which was very similar to that. He'd asked Hadrian if he'd come to his rescue if aliens decided to fiest upon him during one of their flight's through space. Hadrian had only been reluctant to agree at the time because of the absurb nature of the question. It hadn't even occured to him that he'd done a similar thing.
Hadrian often felt like he should just say something to her - thank her for this gift, speak the words they both know, something. But the words would not always come. Sage, though, asked nothing of him. Her fingers stroked his hair. She was not smiling, but her eyes were so utterly happy, peaceful and loving, serene, and he knew that words would be meaningless in expressing what he feels - what they both feel for one another.
An odd noise jolted Hadrian from his half-conscious state, and he lift his head, glancing at his pyjama pocket in a reproachful way for the sudden distruption of peace. He reached inside, and pulled out a small black mobile phone. The message read: 'She said yes!'
Confusion etched across his pale features for just a fracture of a moment, before his and Tara's previous conversation replayed in his mind. She said yes!
"Sage!" he pointed at the screen, raising it higher so that she could see. "Look here. Azure accepted Tara's proposal!" Now if only he could muster up the alien-balls to ask her...
Taht's great! he pressed the numbers on the screen. It was a touch phone, and although he'd grown up used to a fairly close equilivant to holographic screens and 'computer system's' on his home planet, Hadrian still struggled with the correct spelling in his haste to reply to the text. Auto Correct had been suggested once or twice, but it confused him. He preffered being able to speak with a person face-to-face if he could help it. Or over the phone if it was really necessary. Congratulations! B safe. Have Fun. Xx. H.
After both he and Sage had settled once more, and had finally grown drowzy, Sage stood, taking his hand in hers. She guided him to their bedroom, still without a word, and they crawled into bed together, and lay soundly in each other's arms.
Hadrian lay there for a long moment, staring up at the ceiling with his brow's knotted together as if considering something very seriously while Sage lay curled up beside him. "They should have named the sunsets, Sage, instead of sunset." he stated after a moment. "I can hear people saying now, 'Hey, wanna go watch a Sage with me?' I think it has a ring to it."
"I like the word sunset Haddy." She said sleepily.
"I love the word Sage. 'Wow, isn't this Sage beautiful?'" He kissed her head, inhaling the scent of her hair. And she laughed.
With all the complication's that this world and life can bring, there is nothing as sweet and satisfying as meeting that someone who makes living life so effortless, Azure thought while she stood beside her fiance with her head nestled into her shoulder, arms enclosed around her waist.
Not even in her wildest dreams did Azure ever think that her life could feel as perfect as it did right now. Yet here she was, each moment eliciting a smile, or a giggle from the once slightly loopey dancer. She could feel Tara beneath her touch, smell that scent that filled her with a odd sense of joy every time it was near, hear her erratic heartbeat synchronized with her own, see the glistening of her pale body as it moved with her, and she could taste Tara upon her lips.
Even as the minutes passed them by, the sensations Tara's touch and her body, Azure's own desire to touch, and to hold did not turn into something different. She did not feel even the slightest hint of a need to slip her clothes off, one piece at a time, and make love to her right there and then. This, Azure's heart and body seemed to realize, was the most perfect physical expression of love they could give eachother, these simple, innocent touches and innocent kisses. Her body seemed to know that sex, that kind of intense physical pleasure would drown out the less intense but still wonderful pleasure she felt just as things are now, muddle the emotions she felt now. All she wanted to do, all she ever wanted to do until the world itself ended, was stay on this balcony with Tara by her side, loving her and being loved by her in a way she never even imagined was possible. She was quite certain this was the most incredible thing she had ever felt, and she would gladly stay there forever.
But of course time moved on, as it does, and Azure found herself glancing up at her fiance with large eyes filled with adoration. “Actually…there is one thing I kind of always wanted to do.” Tara admitted. But stopped there as she took one of Azure's hands and half-dragged her down the staircase, out the front door and onto the white sandy shore once more.
Azure willingly followed as Tara led her down near the water's edge and eased into a cross-legged possition on the dampened sand. Azure followed her action, but decided on bending her legs so that her knees rest in front of her on the sand; only because the nightgown was so short. “I’ve always wanted to build a sand-fortress. I know it probably sounds... well, childish.”
"Very childish," Azure agreed, grinning a wide smile, and a wink. "But fun. I haven't built a real fortress since I was a kid. Granted it was built with leaves for flags and pet rocks." She chuckled, then joined Tara in grabbing fistfull's of sand and basically mashed it all together, building walls and attempting to make tunnels, only to have the thing collapse again and again. She threw handfuls of the sand onto her own lap as Tara helped her and did not even mind as it clung to the fabric.
“Actually…Azure…" Azure was still smiling as Tara sobered, and began to speak again. "Hm?" she hummed, and Tara continued. She scooted closer to Tara as she pulled a sort of book from a bag she hadn't realised Tara had dragged along with them, and looked at it with curiosity.
Inside of the bag she could see the book, a necklace, a toy and a ring, amongst a few other small treasures. “The one you’re wearing" she explained, "was the one he gave my mother when they got engaged. He gave it to me before he died.” Azure glanced down at the diamond ring she now wore as a token of their love on her wedding finger, with this new knowledge in mind, knew that it was all the more special and meant that much more. "I'm sure they'd be very proud of you," Azure assured, although she had no way of knowing for sure. "I wish I could have met them," Azure was sure Tara did too.
Azure was careful not to touch anything at first, knowing that with the amount of sand clinging to her hands, she feared she may ruin the precious possessions. Tara turned the pages in the phot album, and Azure leaned forward to get a closer look under the dim light of the moon. Although the light was dim, the photo's were clear.
There was a woman, and a man. Dahlia and Erik. "You look more like your dad, I think," she mused as she memorised the faces of the two people who had created the most important woman in her life. They were holding Tara, obviously. Even now she could see subtle facial features which resembled Tara's.
Azure's eyes swept over different photo's on the first few pages, and felt her heart skip as Tara retrieved a second book - smaller that the first - and offered to allow her to take a look through it for herself. Before she took it, Azure brushed off as much of the sand as she could, even going as far as wiping some of it over the spaghetti strap night dress. It was dirty already, anyway. She could always remove and clean it later.
It was a diary. Azure smiled gently as Tara made a comment, stating that she did not think that it was all that interesting. It was neatly set out, whatever was written in there. "Maybe we can read it together, later?" she asked with a hint of hope in her tone, then following up with an offer. "I'll share some things with you, too."
Azure wrapped her arm around Tara's waist, and rest her other hand on her lovers' knee, tracing her fingers over the pale skin. Her eyes followed Tara's gaze, searching through the darkness in front of them and watching as the moonlight glistened upon the dark blue-almost black water.
When she had her eyefill, Azure tenderly wrapped herself closer around Tara, holding her close. Her eyes closed as buried her face into Tara's hair breathing in her comforting scent. . "We gave it a shot," Azure murmured into Tara's hair, tasting its texture on her tongue. "It's kind of up to her now." She hated saying it, but she believed it should be that way. Of course her love, and her need - more than a want - to please Tara threatened to over-ride this once strong belief.
Tara's soft words made Azure pull back to look into her eyes and cup her face in her hand she covered one cheek and held it close in a gesture far more intimate than the act would have called for. Azure took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. She then leaned in, placing the dairy back into the bag, and placed a hand behind Tara's head, curling her fingers through her hair, she kissed her; relishing the way her soft, slightly pink lips felt against Tara's. After a little longer than a moment, Azure pulled back, and took one of Tara's hands in her own, and got to her feet. "We can try again," she relented. "Invite her to the wedding, whatever you like. I just you happy. Always."
She then smiled, toying with some of Tara's hair. "If there's ever anything you want to know about my past all you have to do is ask," she offered, nibbling on her bottom lip. "I guess I can start off with... green, genetically altered cow blood, classic showgirl tunes, dislike wearing bra's on sundays, didn't learn how to ride a bike till I was thirteen, and I play the drums pretty darn good." She beamed, then shrugged. "Though you knew most of that already. I give a good massage, too. If you're interested?" She grinned in an impish manner.

“Actually,” Tara grinned impishly back and snuggled into Azure’s arms, “A massage sounds awesome right about now. It’s been hell at the club this week hasn’t it? Good hell, but still… busy, busy, busy. I hope Xara’s doing alright.” Tara mused. She frowned, “Wait what am I even talking about? She could kick like, ten of my asses in her sleep. REM sleep too I bet… so I don’t think some drunk humans will be any trouble for her.”
Besides, Xara would be Tara’s replacement in the security department of the club when Tara went on bed-rest… which was coming up pretty darn soon, much to her consternation. She knew that Dylan and his team would have liked her to be on bed-rest long before now even, but Tara was not the kind of person who did well sitting around doing next to nothing, or at least less than what she was used to. Tara was a fairly active person so whenever she found herself without something to do she felt like she would go insane. Besides, she would always worry about Azure on her way home from work or when she was working. She had never really gotten over that time that jackass at the club back in the US tried to corner her and get a free show, and ever since Tara had been just a little worried that something similar was going to happen despite the fact that Azure had just as much bone-crushing power now as Tara had back then. She knew Azure would be safe with Xara on the watch but it was still a worry for Tara, no matter how irrational it may have seemed.
“I guess I should start bed rest soon…” Tara mused aloud as she stood stiffly and began gathering her things from the beach. “I don’t really want to… but I know I have to.” She added quickly so as to avoid a scorning lecture from her lover. “It’s just…” she ran her hand through her hair nervously, “what if the pregnancy doesn’t take, y’know? Ah… I dunno. I’m a bit nervous I guess…I just don’t want to lose another one.” Just the thought took the air from her very lungs and made her cringe. “And then all this would be for nothing.”
She hated thinking like that but she could not help herself feeling a bit skeptical of the whole procedure, and losing the first few to miscarriage was a real confidence crusher besides. Seeking comfort, Tara took her fiancée’s hand in her own after she had passed the woman the bag and waddle-walked up the steps to their home. A moment of depression and anxiety struck her and she began to cry again, for no apparent reason. It was not full on sobbing, though fat balls of teardrops dripped down her cheeks and she inhaled sharply. “I don’t know why I’m crying; this is like, the happiest day of my life. I’m sorry Azure…I’m not sad! I just…felt suddenly compelled to cry I guess. I wish my dad was here to see the baby, he’s always wanted grandchildren. Didn’t your mother ever want grandchildren? Maybe I can try talking to her again. What do you think, love?”
Tara’s mood swung swiftly back into its normal happy-state and she grinned at the feel of the smooth tiles of the patio floor under her bare feet. “Hm.” She thought back to Azure’s short list of things about herself that she thought Tara might find interesting. “I would love to hear you play drums one day. I used to play the trombone… I started out on it because my dad used to play. He was really into jazz. I didn’t get too good, I was too young. But one day I’d like to play again. They’re expensive though.” She said solemnly, “But since being turned into a vampire I guess I have all the time in the world.”
She led her fiancée into the living room of the house, where music was still playing. Tara turned to face her and wrapped her arms around her waist. She began to sway rhythmically to the music and being so close to Azure made the experience even more relaxing. The baby kicked in her stomach and caused Tara a bit of mild pain, but that was not unusual so she thought little of it. Instead she placed her lips on Azures neck and kissed her tenderly. She could almost feel where her own fangs had punctures those months ago and a wave rife with grief made Tara’s lips tug into a frown. “I love you.” She said gently, hugging Azure tight again as if to press herself as close to her fiancée as possible. She sighed and said nothing until the song was finished, but the baby was causing her more pain so she pulled away and sat down on the sofa. Her feet were swelling, anyway. Tara placed her feet up on the stool and grabbed the diary. “Want to read some now?”
She flipped open the book, “This goes all the way until… I guess until I was working at the bar. So only a few years before I met you… it’s hard to accurately remember things I suppose, so keeping a diary is nice. I should do that again…”
She ran her fingers along the spine of the book, and then sighed. “Mmkay… I guess I’ll just start.” Today daddy gave me this diary. Mom died three days ago…we have both been pretty sad, but he said that I should write down how I feel and it will help me feel better. I miss her… I don’t want her to go. I don’t want them to put her in the dirt… but daddy says it is for the best. He says it honors her to bury her and that is what we do with people who go to heaven. But he says mom probably won’t go to heaven, because people who kill themselves aren’t supposed to go to heaven. I don’t think that is true. I think one day when I go to heaven, mom will be there too, and when daddy dies we will all be happy and together again. I think heaven will have a swimming pool in it, and a place for ice cream. There will be nice clear skies and I can fly whenever I want, and dad and mom can fly too. Mom doesn’t have an animal form but that doesn’t matter, she can fly with me too because angels are supposed to have wings. We put flowers on her grave after the buried her, and before when I had to say goodbye I gave her one of my toys to hang on to so she doesn’t feel so lonely down there in her box. That way she can always cuddle me, no matter what. I loved cuddling mom. I’m going to miss her.
Tara smirked, “I still think that if there is a heaven, it should have ice cream. What kind of place doesn’t have ice cream, let alone heaven? I had the right idea.” Tears were forming in her eyes despite being amused by her own innocence and she wiped them away. Her voice had cracked slightly when she was reading but she kept reading. She had not looked at her diary until now. The last time she had read her first entry was probably when she wrote it. It brought back so many memories, and Tara linked to Azure to show her the memories her past words prompted.
It was a perfect sunny day. Tara watched as other young children played happily in a park across the street, and so wished to join them. Her father tugged her along, wearing all black like his little girl, who clung to her favorite stuffed animal: a panda. Tara was terrified and she simultaneous understood and did not understand what was going on. She knew her mother was dead and was never coming back, and that dead meant forever. But what she did not understand how she could just…cease to exist whereas three days ago the woman had given her a hug and a kiss and told her how much she loved her. It seemed unfair. Tara’s father led her to the grave where a small service was performed for her mother before she was lowered into the grave. Tara was allowed to place her panda into the casket with her mother and say “I love you mommy” one more time, before they closed the lid and lowered her into the hole. Tara’s father wrapped his arm around the girls shoulder and held her tightly as shovelful after shovelful of dirt sealed the grave. He then placed a fresh batch of flowers on the mound of earth, and led his little girl away from the scene. It was then that Tara began to panic, “No! No daddy! I don’t want her to go! I don’t want her to go! Why does she have to go? Why did she have to die?” Her father hushed her and brushed her hair with his hand, then kissed her head tenderly. “It’s okay sweetheart. It’s okay. We’re going to be okay.”
Tara ended the memory there. She leaned on Azure heavily and shook her head, “We had a big argument over which flowers to get her. Dad wanted to get daisies but I said lilies were prettier, so we got her lilies. He was wrapped around my little finger.” She grinned slyly, “I think our baby is going to have someone wrapped around their little finger.” She tapped Azure’s nose accusingly, “Especially if it’s a girl.” Little did she know, it would be Tara who would be wrapped around her daughter's finger.
Tara cringed. She had been getting pains in her stomach all night but this was even more sharp than usual. “Azure… I think something is wrong. I’ve been getting these pains…these weird pains in my stomach…I’m getting kind of worried. Do you think we should go to the hospital?”
((OOC: heartwarming/ heartbreaking connection moment ^_^ I hope this was okay? ))

The light in which the moon cast down upon the Earth made the young couples skin so pale they were almost the same color as the pages of the book which lay open between them.
The fact that Tara expressed a feeling of hope, and mild concern for her friend Xara made Azure want to smile. Tara's unfavorable emotion's towards the red-haired warrior had been no secret amongst their friends and had often caused a mild feeling of discomfort for Azure whenever the three of them were together. It hadn't been until of late did Xara and Tara were begin to reconcile.
Azure did not know why Tara had the sudden change of heart, but she loved both women almost equally, in different ways. Azure's love for Xara was completely platonic while Azure was completely captivated by Tara and all that she was. Never before had Azure felt so strongly about a woman, and although she hadn't known it until that night she'd liturally stumbled into Tara's apartment, she had been waiting her whole life, and "technically" death for the woman sitting beside her.
Xara was going to make an excelent replacement security guard for the club, Azure mused, once Tara went on bed rest. Bed rest was crutial for both mother and child. Because of the fact that their first few attempts at ensuring Tara did not miscarry had proven unsuccessful, this healthy feotus had thrived longer than any of the others, and although Dylan was optimistic about this one, he was also very anxious. Though he was already prone to over concern himself with many things.
Azure extended a helping hand to help Tara to her feet and they collected their belonging's. It saddened her to think that despite their effort's so far, and the fact that their baby had grown beyond the point what most other doctors may have expected, Tara still had her doubts. After a couple of miscarriages though, it was to be expected, she supposed. Regardless, Azure knew that her fiance needed comfort. "Our baby is growing stronger everyday, Tara," she placed a hand on the roundness of Tara's stomach, feeling the life inside. "It's strong, just like her mother." She nudged Tara's shoulder gently as they walked hand-in-hand up the staircase and back into their beach house.
Tara had begun to cry. By now, Azure was used to her fiance's mood swing's; like a pendulum her emotions swung constantly. Sometimes she would get mad for no apparent reason, then start to cry over feeling guilty for her outburst, or some other reason. Anxiety was almost constant, of course over fearing for the babies health despite the fact she had professionals telling her that she was fine.
It may sound a little devious, perhaps even a little unfair in a way, but occasionally, when she was sure the timing was right, Azure would have a little fun with Tara's heightened sensitivity. There were times where Tara was in a state of... excitement... and even the action of simply brushing hair away from her neck, or what may have started off as an innocent kiss soon became a lot more passionate.
During pregnancy, women seemed to become far easier aroused than usual; Azure had proven this theory to herself after reading somewhere that it had a lot to do with increased fluids in the area. Apparently orgasms were good for both the mother and baby, too. The baby would be unaware of what you are doing (much to Azure's relief), but would also experience the euphoric rush Tara experienced when she and Azure had sex.
Azure wanted to make sure that she could make Tara as comfortable, and happy during the whole pregnancy. She had gotten used to Tara's hormonal mood swings, and had learnt how to (as well as when to and when not to) try and calm her fiance. As Tara had begun to cry, she knew that the tears would pass quickly, as long as their hands remained entwined.
"I would have loved to meet him," Azure rubbed her thumb across Tara's palm as they walked back to the house. "If he was anything like you are. Just by looking at his photograph, I can see he was a good man." she mused, then pulled the corners of her mouth down only slightly as her mother was mentioned. "She does want grandchildren. Though this wasn't the method of going about it she had in mind. Babies should be born 'the propper way'. Everything we're doing is an act against God, as far as she's concerned."
There was a note of resentment in the tone of Azure's voice as she spoke the words, but it soon dissapated as Tara's mood lifted. She feared she may bring her down again. "Maybe she'll come around... in time."
She felt grateful for the change in topic. "I'd love to hear you play, too. Maybe at the club sometime? I doubt we'll be able to get away with making much noise once the little one's finally born." there was a hopeful hint to the tone of her voice. "I guess the reason I started playing the drum's was because I wanted to annoy my parent's," she chuckled softly as Tara led her into the entertainment area of the house, where classical music played gently.
Leaving their thing's near the sofa, Azure waited until they had a decent amount of space to move around before she draped her arms around Tara's neck and began to sway in time to the music, keeping pace with her fiance. Azure's stomach pressed gently against Tara's as they waltzed, enjoying the feel of Tara's hands against the sink of her pyjamas.
She felt a small movement between them and looked down, smiling at the realisation that the baby had kicked, and that she had felt it as if the baby was in her own stomach while they moved together. Tara leaned forwards, and Azure shivered lightly as she felt Tara's breath against the side of her neck, then a smile formed upon her features as she felt Tara's lips press gently against her skin, right above the very place she had bitten only a mere few months ago. "I love you too," she breathed, and brushed her cheek against Tara's.
They stayed that way for a while, slowing the dance as the song finished. At the end, Azure pressed a kiss against Tara's forhead and followed her as she sat down on the sofa. "Sure," she nodded as her lover suggested they read some of the diary, and sat beside her fiance, scooting so that she could sit close enough to lean against her shoulder as the diary was brought out.
“This goes all the way until… I guess until I was working at the bar. So only a few years before I met you… it’s hard to accurately remember things I suppose, so keeping a diary is nice. I should do that again…” Tara explained, turning to a page. Azure leant over slightly so that she could read:
Today daddy gave me this diary.
To read something Tara had written as a child filled Azure with a feeling that she had gained new insight into her fiance. She said nothing at first while Tara began to speak again, this time of how she believed that there should be ice cream in heaven. "When I was younger, and a little more impressionable," she chuckled, "I thought that the clouds up in Heaven were made from cotton candy. I still believe in Heaven... but I'll never be a total bible basher like my parent's."
The conversation soon took a slight pause as Azure noticed that the room around her began to shimmer with color. Her surrounding's morphed, and she then realised that Tara was linking with her. She closed her eyes, and allowed the images to flood her mind. She watched in silence. Ot was not until it was all over, and she was able to blink back into propper awareness did she realise that tears had pricked the corners of her eyes. Tara had showed as well as told Azure of her little entry in her diary.
She had never imagined that Tara could have been such a cute kid, first of all. Was that wrong to think of as your fiance is showing you a mental video of her memory of burying her own mother? Tara also had a panda, very similar to the one she had given to Sasha a long while ago. So panda's were of some sentimental value. It made Azure wonder who gave Tara her first panda. She then realised how similar Tara and her father did look, and how she now felt a feeling of loss herself, that she had never, and would never meet either of these people who had once given Tara life, and a home, and love.
"Your dad seemed like a wonder man... I could see that for myself," Azure turned her face to kiss Tara's head as she leant into her, and breathed in the scent of her hair. She smiled, and chuckled as her fiance then insinuated that it would be her who would be wrapped around their babies finger if she was a girl. Of course! Azure had never been sure if she'd ever have children for the pure and simple fact she was sure of her sexuality from an early age. If she had ever wanted to haev children she would have to go through a very similar process to what she and Tara had done. Though of course she had never thought in her dizzy daydreams they'd be going about it in this way.
If Azure ever had a child she'd wanted it to a girl. Of course she wouldnt mind either way, but Azure would have a lot more fun dressing a girl than a little boy. There was just so much more variety to choose from, and shoes, bags, hair accessories... dressing Sasha had been a dream come true for Azure when they were living in the US. So of course their child, male or female would be doted upon. And no doubt Tara would be wrapped around their little finger just as tightly.
A change in the atmosphere caused Azure to ease up on her leaning against Tara as she detected a few subtle changes in her posture. She felt anxiety creep up her spine, though she attempted to hide it, as Tara claimed that there was something wrong. "Where are the pains?" she asked, trying to make sure that her voice remained deceptively calm. She was already afraid she knew the answer. "Remember one of the doctors mentioned something about... what's it called... Braxton Hicks contractions?" But should she be feeling them this early? "They just feel like labor pains."
What was it that the doctor suggested? Azure got up, and took Tara's hand. "Okay, what I want you to do is just lay down for now, okay? Relax. I'm going to get you some water and call the hospital to tell them we're on our way." She kissed the palm of Tara's hand, and was soon in a flurry of motion. She fetched Tara some water, not knowing whether it'd do mre harm than good, and called the hospital. Dylan wasn't there. The receptionist did not explain exactly why, but Azure chanced a guess that it probably had a lot to do with Xara.
Azure grabbed a few thing's from their room; she'd changed into a pair of light blue shorts, and a red sweater. She'd also grabbed a sweater for Tara. Once she returned, Azure explained while helping Tara to her feet, "Dylan isn't there tonight. But they had another doctor taking over for him... Dr... Sner... Snare. Yeah, Snare. She'll figure out what it is."

Tara tried to remain calm, but for someone who was not calm during any normal circumstances, this proved to be a very difficult thing to achieve.
Tara was like a spring except, instead of being bouncy and fun like a slinky, she had been wound up so tightly she was more like a small condensed ball of cold steel that only started to unfurl when Azure was around. When Azure was not around Tara resumed her stressful state of mind and drove herself insane. Nesting wasn’t really helping this stress-ball attitude of hers either. Tara and Azure’s home was spotless--absolutely spotless. You could eat food off almost any surface in their home and feel pretty comfortable doing so, all because of Tara’s anal-retentive organizational fetish. The room they had set aside for the baby had been Tara’s special personal obsession. Everything about that room had to be absolutely perfect. She had moved everything around countless of times and painted and re-painted the walls even more: it was in a new setting practically every week, but even that was not enough for her.
This instinct, which could be somewhat described as preemptive protectiveness, was heightened by Tara’s anxiety for the baby’s safety as the pains continued. She sipped her water and acted like a good girl while Azure could see her but when her fiancée’s back was turned Tara had begun to organize the closest things to her. By the time Azure came back, Tara had organized the coffee table by the size and usefulness of the objects on it, and cringed inwardly at the intense satisfaction she received from doing so.
She was such a weirdo.
Anyway. Tara and her lack of attention span found themselves focusing on Azure, as if that was really a surprise. Tara could not seem to keep her mind, or her eyes, off of the woman who had recently agreed to marry her. The way Azure took charge, her natural grace as she scurried about the house, that determined look she wore just… sent a warm shiver from her breast to a certain, much lower and recently more sensitive area between her thighs. Naïve little Tara had no idea her lover had caught on to, and made good use of, this new sensitivity. Not that she would mind when she herself caught on because, well, it was all in good fun anyway. After a few months of awkward sexual tension between the couple, to be able to be so open and relaxed in that way was truly a liberating experience for Tara, and she absolutely adored it.
Azure came back clothed in some shorts and a sweater, much to Tara’s mild disappointment, though she donned her own sweater gratefully. It smelled like Azure... that in itself made her tense shoulders relax. Azure explained,
"Dylan isn't there tonight. But they had another doctor taking over for him... Dr... Sner... Snare. Yeah, Snare. She'll figure out what it is."
The impregnated vampire shifted awkwardly. “Pfft. You know, I bet his ass hasn’t healed yet from all the kicking Xara probably did. Poor guy. He’s got to be a saint to deal with that woman sometimes.” Tara chuckled, and then smiled dreamily up at Azure, “You look pretty.” She cooed, taking Azure’s help to stand. Another pain pricked her stomach and her face contorted into extreme concern. She clung to Azure’s arm and hugged her tightly.
She clung to Azure’s hand as they walked to Azure’s car, and reluctantly let her go as she took her place in the passenger seat. It had taken a while to get used to sitting on that side of the vehicle, since back in North America the passenger seat was on the other side. Tara used to get a good kick out of that but after living for so long in Hobart she had gotten used to it.
Tara babbled to Azure the entire time to the hospital, talking about this thing or that thing, mostly Burlesque business. She sighed as they neared the hospital, “I don’t know what I’m going to do when I go on bed rest you know. I’m going to go insane, I think. Maybe I’ll catch up on my reading or something? Or I could learn to draw. I used to do it a lot but I sucked hard at it. It was mostly just weird little mindless doodles; most of them don’t make sense. But that’s okay, they are most cute kittens. Kittens are cute right? I've always kinda wanted a kitten...”
She trailed off nervously as the car came to a rolling stop and she and Azure hustled into the hospital. Tara felt herself begin to panic a bit and wrapped her arms around her stomach as she walked, looking at the sick and injured people who waited in the emergency room. She hated—hated—seeing little kids in the hospital. One little boy looked up at her from the play area with such a baleful, sad, scared look that she almost forgot why she was there in order to comfort him. He coughed miserably and continue to play half-heartedly with the toys in the corner on a mat under the television while his baggy eyed parents watched him with an equal sense of apprehension.
Tara pulled her eyes away from the sad looking little boy and focused back on her fiancée as she was led to the familiar wing of the hospital. They were admitted immediately into a room where Tara subjected herself to some standard tests and then stuffed into a closed-off room to await the doctor. Tara, now in a gown, gave Azure a petrified look. She hated hospitals, and she hated feeling so helpless in the hospital bed where she was placed in an awkward position in an awkward garment in an unfamiliar setting. It was all just a very confidence-sapping experience and she knew her anxiety would be much more if Azure had not been there with her. Tara fiddled nervously with the sheet of the bed as they awaited the doctor to arrive and, although she tried to hide her fears; she could not help but to voice them just a little,
“I…I kind of wish Dylan was here instead. Do you think this new doctor will be just as good? I hope so… Dylan wouldn’t send someone who was not good…would he?”
Tara snapped her mouth shut as the door creaked open...she gave Azure a frightened look and reached out for her hand. What were the results? Was there anything wrong with the baby? What would they do if this one failed again? Tara would be heartbroken... she wouldn't be able to do it again. This would be her last try. Their last chance at a family... could it really be all over?
She felt her face become heavy with concern as her brows furrowed. Her hand squeezed Azures. Whatever happened she knew she was ultimately going to be okay. With the help of her friends and Azure, first and foremost, she would be okay. This seemed to put Tara at ease... if only for a few moments, until the doctor came in. Then...well, that was a completely different story.
((sorry about the shortness. I hope this was alright! ))

Azure tried to remain as calm as she possibly could for her stressed, and anxious fiance. It didn't help that she hated to see Tara so unsettled. It made Azure feel at a loss for what to do, though she wasn't prepared to admit it.
She wanted to try and be the strong one in the relationship. Since becoming a vampire... no, before that. After meeting Tara, Azure had begun to become a different person. For the better, of course. Her daymares became less and less frequent, the crawling she'd experienced under her skin lessened in severity. She felt less fragile, more safe when she was around Tara. The night she'd defended Azure against that drunk moron at the club was the night Azure realised she was falling in love with her now-fiance. Despite the fact she had been frail from the inside out like china, like pottery, like porcelain, as soon as Tara showed up, and liturally beat the guy senseless, she felt stronger by simply having her there.
That's why she wanted to be strong for Tara, now. Of course she was scared. It wasn't as if the possibility that they may loose the baby wasn't plaguing her thoughts right now. She wasn't just about to go, 'well we've lost three already, what's one more, right?' She was willing to do whatever it took to make sure that this baby remained healthy.
Which right now, meant keeping Tara calm by putting on a guise of calmness herself.
Azure glanced at her fiance for what could have been the 40th time since they left the house, and were on their way to the hospital. After loading Tara into the passanger seat; she thought it felt like too long since Azure had sat in the "right" drivers seat, it almost felt strange as they hurried along the highway towards the bright city lights.
The fact that Dylan was not there made Azure nervous. Not that she'd want to let on. It was just that he knew just as much (maybe more) about Tara's pregnancy than any doctor at the hospital, and he knew more than anyone how important it was to them that the baby which grew inside of Azure's fiance remained healthy. This Doctor Snare woman probably knew only what was written down on a clip board.
Tara was probably right too, in saying that he must be a saint to deal with everything they'd all dished out to him since he was introduced to the little group; from the rescue of Sasha, to mending gunshot wounds, and loosing his job. He'd spent countless hours researching and organising the conception between Tara and Azure; been there throughout the tears of miscarriages, he'd had to deal with the after-effects of the incident between Hadrian and Edison, Hadrian's stubborness, and Xara's indignation.
It wasn't really as if he was super close to any of them either. Dylan had Xara, and Sage - then there was another girl, Candy who payed some sort of rent to live with them. Apart from that, he really didn't have anyone else. Though, in a way Dylan had forced himself into Hadrian's life after bringing him back home to Sage and Sirius the afternoon Edison had shot him. He had insisted on daily check-up's, as did Sage, Azure was sure. It wasn't as if Hadrian would have given in to Dylan's treatment easily, despite it being in his best interests, either. So even then, they weren't technically friends. Maybe close aquaintances.
Perhaps Dylan could be closer to other people if he'd just let go of his comfort zone a little bit. It was with this thought in mind, Azure decided she wanted to make much more of an effort once the baby was born. Xara would be all over the little girl or boy, of course, and it did feel as though Azure hadn't been able to have a real, propper conversation with Xara lately, about anything. Perfect oppertunity, don't you think?
Tara did most of the talking on the way to the hospital, while Azure listened, making a few small comments here and there as she focused on getting the two (well, three) of them there as safely as she could. It was mostly about the club, thing's that were happening, plan's for the future, Xara taking over as a bouncer, sort of gig while Tara was on bed rest. Which would probably be sooner rather than later, from the looks of thing's.
She'd suggested, when Tara had mentioned she had no idea what she'd do while on bed rest. Read, perhaps. Maybe draw, or something. Azure suggested she give her music a go, again. True, after the baby arived they'd need to save every single penny they could. But it was something that Tara obviously felt passionate about. If not, they really could always get that kitten!
Once in the hospital, Tara was wisked off and subjected to the usual tests; blood pressure, etc. Whatever standardized tests you could perform on a vampire, anyway. Azure hated hospitals. They reminded her too much of the Fascility, without the evil. So much, in fact, she could almost feel the crawling return to her skin, and through her veins. If the people here weren't sick or injured, they were anxious, sleep deprived, and frightened.
Once they were alone, Azure felt her mask slip ever so slightly as it began to dawn on her they were going to find out what was wrong. Yet she continued to comfort Tara as she lay in the stiff matress. Azure could see the baby bump from under the rough sheets covering her body. Azure scooted closer to the bed at once stage as they spoke quietly, and placed a hand over Tara's stomach, simply touching it for comfort. "I wish he was here too," Azure admitted as Tara expressed she was uncertain of this unfanmiliar doctor who would soon be joining them. "I doubt anyone is as good as him. But as you said, he wouldn't send Dr Snare if he wasn't sure she was good enough for us." She leant over the bed and gave Tara a comforting kiss on the forhead just before the door opened.
As soon as the automatic doors of an elevator swung open, Citole was greeted with sounds of coughing, talking, ringing telephones, clicking and clacking toys and the crisp smell of disinfectant. The sight that greeted her was the typical sterile environment, white walls, computers, people, wheelchairs, cabinets, desks, many hallways, and complete with doctors and nurses either wearing scrubs or long white coats. Citole was the only one who looked out of place, wearing her aureate heels, a simple (by her standards) Cubic Zirconia and Silver Pearl necklace around her neck, and a set of black pearl earrings.
In regards to jewelry, Citole admired pieces that were rare, tasteful, and priceless, all dating back to one era or other. She had numerous antique cases, and was so organised that she'd put them together in order of style and era. Her mother had collected most of it, and passed the collection on once she turned thirteen. She seldom spoke of her parents, most of all her mother, but she felt great deal in her emotions regarding her. She didn't say it, but she had adored her mother through and through – all the more so because of the conflicting relationship she'd had with her father. So even while the jewelry did have great 'worth', she didn't always necessarily mean the monetary kind. What a can of worms lay there.
Her long blonde hair hung in loose waves around her neck, framing her diamond-shaped face, while her cold, glacier blue eyes stared ahead. The small heels clicked against the bleached clean tile floors as she walked away from the elevator, down one of the long hallways to a black door at the end, only pausing long enough to turn the handle, and step through.
"Good evening, ladies," Citole spoke in a deceptively amicable tone of voice as she glanced up at the two vampiress', with a clipboard in hand. Though she had an Australian accent, she also spoke with a refined vocalization. "My name is Doctor Citole Snare. I'm filling in for Dr Hope tonight. I am told you're having some pain's in your uterus, Miss... Chan," her tone rose to that of surprise, as she glanced sharply towards the vampiress lying ontop of the hard, uncomfortable hospital bed. "Let's find out why."
Interesting, Citole mused as she closed the blinds to a window which usually showed a clear view of the hallway, in order to give them some privacy. She then proceeded to take a pair of gloves from a small drawer, and slipped them over her well manicured hands. "Alright, now. Miss Chan, first I'm going to check if you have any cervical dialation," she added, taking a chair from the side of the bed opposite to Azure and possitioned it at the foot of it. "Please tell me how long ago did these pains begin?"
"About an hour and a half, maybe. The lighter-haired out of the two, Azure, Dylan had informed her, answered on Tara's behalf, taking the woman's hand as Citole peeled back the end of the blanket and folded it so that once Tara bent her legs at the knees, it would not slip.
"And have they grown closer together?" Citole asked, her delicate brows furrowing for a moment as she made her examination, her lips pursing only slightly while her mind began to work out different scenario's. For all these two vampiress' knew she could have either been frowning in either displeasure, or concentration. They'd find out soon enough.
Azure's brow furrowed. "No," she paused for a moment as if making sure with herself that it was the correct answer. "They've stayed about the same."
"Do they last roughly half a minute?" Citole fixed the sheets so that they lay as they once did before she'd moved them.
"I donno... maybe? It's happened a few times in about half an hour."
"It hasn't happened before tonight?" She got to her feet, removing the gloves and placing them in a bin. She then squirted some gel hand wash over her hands, rubbed them together, and then dried them off with some paper towel.
"Not that I know of," Azure glanced at Tara, gently squeazing her lovers' hand once more in an effort to offer comfort.
Citole was pleased enough with this. "Well there has been no cervical dialation. From the sounds, and looks of thing's it appears you've been experiencing Braxton Hicks contraction's. They're very common." She spoke directly to Tara, this time.
"Brack what?" Azure looked confused. Really, if they'd attended any classes, or read anything about pregnancy at all they should know, already.
With a guise of more patience than she really felt, Citole explained. "Generally, true labor contractions will get longer in length, closer in frequency and stronger in intensity. A Braxton Hicks contraction might get closer together but not consistently, or they may feel stronger but dissapear when you move around. Some expecting mothers say that they only experience Braxton Hicks contractions when moving around and they cease when she sits down." Her smile became that of amusement. "From the looks of pervious examinations, Miss Chan, your baby is very healthy. You have nothing to feel anxious about."
But what of this new piece of information Citole had just aquired from her oblivious patient. Surely this was not going to meet a very profitable end, from Citole's side of thing's. Something would need to be done down the track, but if she was going to continue down the trail she had cleared for herself, she knew she would need to continue to play the sweet dispositioned physician card.
Since meeting Erik Chan, Citole believed that they had made a real breakway in regards to a relatively new experimental drug trials in paranormals. Their meeting had already been planned out so that they would eventually form a relationship. The reason behind this was so she could keep a closer eye on the man. He was as good as dead when he was found in the US.
Citole had been informed before Erik's transfer that he'd been told that he'd gotten into a fight with a thief, and was shot multiple times in the chest. He'd had extensive surgery, and now took daily medication and vitamins to keep his body working, and his mind healthy. As far as he was aware, he was technically still in recovery. He had no memory of his life before waking up at the hospital.
Erik was not an unattractive man, but in what world would someone like Citole ever trully fall in love with a paranormal? To be fair, she was devoted to him. She cared for his well-being from a professional point of view, and did a very good job at hiding her career from him. Perhaps a part of her did care for him more deeply than she though. But honestly, Citole was quite blatant in her dislike and mistrust towards really anything that isn't Human.
She never did thrive on companionship. She believed that everyone is like her in some way, even if they hide it behind false walls of sympathy, and thus people are not to be trusted; the one smiling sweetly is just as likely to kill her as the kleptomaniac. Some people would define this trait as paranoia, and to some degree it is. But to her, it's just another fact floating around in her head giving her a careful reminder not to turn her back on anyone. This could link to some form of social disease, but she is not certain.
She does prefer a more solitary life. That is not to say she hates friendship or company, just that she prefers to be away from the general mass. The few friend's Citole is able to make are generally something she dubs as family. She would never outwardly show it, but those who understand her and accept her are defended and protected by her; almost to the point of 'at any cost'. She hides her protective nature under a sheet of playfulness and teasing. Anyone teased by her tends to be someone she likes, even though it may seem backwards. It's a foreign sight anyway, as she tends to make many more enemies than friends; especially with her nature.
So what to do in this situation? Citole could act none-the-wiser to the fact that Erik's daughter was now sitting in front of her, but then other's would find out, and that would lead to questions. She could not immediately ask if the vampiress knew her father was alive either. Citole knew she'd need to tread carefully, and since her head can never really reach a solid consensus anyway, she often plays the role of the charitable citizen quite well.
Citole jot down some quick notes on her clipboard before lowering the clip-board so she was holding it against her naval. "By the way, I do hope that I'm not being too nosy - and please tell me to stop, if I am - but, Miss Chan, I was wondering if you are related to a man called Erik Chan, by chance?" There wasn't really any other way to get straight to the topic. She had a hunch she was right in her suspitions, because Azure suddenly looked shocked.

Erik and Citole lived close to the hospital: it was easier that way, in case Citole got a page calling her in for work. You never knew with doctors…the work hours were often random and emergencies could spring up at any time. Erik admired his companion for her dedication to the field of work. He was used to her coming and going at odd hours, although her shifts were normally stable, which Erik liked. He was quite fond of Citole…in fact some may say he was in love with her.
He remembered nothing of his life before his accident. He remembered waking up in a hospital bed, wondering what in the world was going on. He asked if he had family but they said he had none on record. He assumed he had no spouses or children, which was a relief because he did not know if he could handle being thrown into a family situation. He did not think he was ready or even wanted to have a child and a wife. He was admittedly quite relieved when he found out he had none of those things, though part of him always felt a bit guilty for thinking so, and he could never figure out exactly why that was.
Citole had told him she was going to the hospital because a special case, a lesbian vampire couple, were worried about their baby and wanted a professional opinion. It made sense, he thought, if he were them he would be worried about the baby too. Experimental pregnancies were always rough, both on the mother (or mothers, as the case was) and the child itself. No doubt they had to suffer some losses to get to the point they were then and Erik could only hope for the best for them. Normally people would condemn them for using experimental insemination techniques, for using technology to corrupt the pure and natural gift of childbirth, but who was he to judge? He used experimental treatments to stay alive, let alone make babies. Everyone deserved to be happy, even lesbian vampires, so if the government was going to be stupid and not let them adopt then they’re going to find another way to have a child and in his eyes there was nothing really wrong with that. The kid would be loved and undoubtedly well taken care of…isn’t that all that mattered?
In any case, anyone who decided to give those two ladies, who were probably nothing but pleasant and polite, a hard time for wanting what some people took for granted … then those people were just plain wrong, and that was that. Erik nodded definitively to himself as he prepared the hot beverage for Citole. He thought he would surprise her when he went to pick her up by bringing a cup of her favorite blend of coffee and slice of lemon pound cake he had baked earlier. She seemed so serious sometimes and he liked to do nice things for her in case he could get her to smile for him. He loved it when she smiled….especially when it was because of something he did for her. He waited outside of her office with beverage and treat, humming pleasantly to himself as hospital life evolved around him.
He was perfectly happy as a man who was simply in a dating relationship, nothing more. Maybe one day he and Citole would marry and have children? But that would be in the future. He would gladly wait that long—children were not on his list of things to acquire any time soon. If he was lucky, things would just fall neatly into place, and children would come later when he and Citole were ready for them.
Erik Chan wasn’t a particularly lucky man, was he?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"By the way, I do hope that I'm not being too nosy - and please tell me to stop, if I am - but, Miss Chan, I was wondering if you are related to a man called Erik Chan, by chance?"
'Wait....what?' Tara thought to herself as her jaw slackened. She was still on the bed with her legs spread open and her feet in the stirrups, the hospital blanket resting neatly on her slightly bent knees.
Before her father was mentioned, the visit had been fairly routine. Tara was glad the woman was at least friendly-professional, not serious, no-fun professional like some of the other doctors she had seen before. Those guys always gave her the creeps!
Naturally, the vampiress was very much relived to hear that her baby was going to be okay, and it looked like it was doing well even. The good news allowed for Tara to finally relax, and her muscles went blissfully slack on the hospital bed. She cast a smile Azure's direction and sent her a feeling of intense happiness, gratitude for Azure's patience and calm while Tara was freaking out, and how devotedly she had stayed with her through her time of panic. 'I love you so much.' Tara thought as she gazed upon Azure, grinning.
It was perfect: another disaster averted! Such good news surely warranted a night of cuddles and 'cuddles' (and chocolate) when they got back to their vacation home, and their post-engagement celebrations for two could recommence.
Then, Citole had to mention her father.
Tara slowly brought her legs in from the spread out position since talking about her deceased father in such a position was, albeit, a little awkward. She did not know why she thought that it would be because it was not as if anything was being implied...perhaps having herself on display like that was just awkward, or the subject matter at hand was also awkward...but it was probably the leg thing.
She pulled the sheet over herself and gave Citole a baffled, cold stare.
“I do know him.” she said quietly, “Or...I did. He was my father. He was killed about twelve years ago... I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you. How did you know him? Were you school friends or something?”
There just was something...not right about this. Tara frowned as she thought about what it could be. It seemed like an innocent enough question, if not random and out of the blue, but innocent nonetheless. Tara had gotten a rather good impression off of Citole anyway, and decided she was probably not the kind to be up to tricks and deceit. She seemed like an honest enough woman. But still...Tara felt a little unrestful about the whole thing. She looked up at the doctor with a very serious expression, borderlining mournful,
“This is...weird. I didn't know there were other people out there who knew him. I have never met any before. What made you think we were related?”

Citole knew that as far as boyfriends went, Erik was one of those rare type's you really only hear about in movies, or RP sites. If it were a normal relationship, she knew that she should love him. But she was unsure of whether she could. It simply wasn't in her nature to feel the need for such companionship. The way she looked at it, thing's were strictly proffessional, only he was unaware of this fact.
What made her agree to go ahead with the whole operation? Well, she was one of the most qualified scientist's working at the compound, after all. Not to mention, she was beautiful. To choose another person would borderline ludicrous. What man wouldn't fall in love with her?
The objective with Erik was to ensure that he continue taking the experimental medicine perscribed to him. The drug's, said to keep his body working, and heal his mind, though they did indeed serve this purpose, also lowered whatever chemical's in the brain which made it possible for him to shapeshift. If the trial was a success, then imagine the amount of control the Government could have over the paranormal population!
Before being called in to take over for Dr Hope, Citole had been spending some admittedly well-earned R & R time, reading a book in bed. She hadn't been ready for bed; it was too early. She had been lying on top of the covers, with her head propped up on top of three duck feather pillows. The book was called 'LOST' by an Author called Michael Robotham. The story itself was centered around a homicide detective called Vincent Ruiz. In the very beginning, he was fished out of the Thames in London with a bullet in his leg and an even bigger hole in his memory. He had no recollection of the shooting or how he finished in the river. The only clue was a photograph found in his pocket of Mickey Carlyle, a seven-year-old girl who went missing three years earlier. A man was convicted of her murder.
But Ruiz was convinced that the police got it wrong, and his only hope of unravelling the puzzle was to retrace his steps and re-create the night of the shooting. Under investigation by his colleagues and accused of faking amnesia, he turns to Joe O'Loughlin, a clinical psychologist, who he hoped could unlock his memories. Step by step, they'd piece together a story of grief, vengeance, and the search for redemption.
Robotham was Citole's favorite crime fiction Author. She loved anything to do with learning about crime, murders, history, and suspense; be it on the television, or written on the pages of a novel. Though she did preffer reading to watching the television. The TV dumbed your mind.
Despite her schedule, Citole was the first to put her hand up to relieve Dylan of his patients as he took some over-due leave. Despite her mistrust and dislike of the paranormal, Citole was aware that many of Dylan's patience where rather "unique", and if you did not already know about his case between the vampiric lesbian couple you must have been living in a hole for the past few months. Of course she'd want to jump on the oppertunity to study them briefly. The fact that one of these vampires may well be Erik's daughter, was an added bonus.
Citole stood silently while she awaited Tara's answer. The initial relief both vampiress' experienced on the news that their baby was fine was replaced by suprise. This was evident. Also, perhaps a little shock.
Tara adjusted herself into a more dignified possition while her mind seemed to process what she'd just been asked. The other one, Azure hovered close to her partner, holding her hand in a gesture of comfort.
The two were in love. It was completely obvious simply by looking at them. So, that's what it looked like. It was evident that Citole's little comment had completely caught both women off guard, and it was interesting to see their reaction's.
“I do know him.” Tara's voice was small, and quiet. “Or...I did. He was my father. He was killed about twelve years ago... I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you. How did you know him? Were you school friends or something?”
So, she believed her father to be dead as well. Delicately, Citole reminded herself. This would have to be done delicately. Scare the vampire and have her panic, they'd have real trouble for sure. Can't be harming that babies health. We'll be needing it alive, after all.
“This is...weird. I didn't know there were other people out there who knew him. I have never met any before. What made you think we were related?” Tara added after a short pause. The other one, Azure, stayed silent. Which struck Citole as strange considering it was her who had acted as speaker for the two not very long ago. She just stayed by Tara's side, stroking her hand as she waited, offering Citole a wary, half-expectant gaze with pursed lips.
"Miss Chan..." Citole began, trying to approach this as carefully as she could, but as boldly as she dared. "Your father is alive. I know this because I am one of his personal doctors and... we are also together, if you catch my drift. We have been for quite some time."
The other vampiress, Azure suddenly looked very pale, her eyes had bulged and she was glancing from Tara, to Citole with a dumbstruck expression across her pretty features. "He - he - how?" she stammered.
It took everything Citole had in her not to roll her eyes. "From what I have read off his charts, he was in a coma for quite some time. When he awoke he had no memory of who he was, and the doctors were unable to find any record of living family members. Tara," she looked at the pregnany vampiress with a serious expression. "This is as much a shock to myself as it is to you."[glow=red,2,300] + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

"This is as much a shock to myself as it is to you."
Tara seriously doubted that. She stared up at Citole with a dumbstruck expression, as if the woman had sprouted an extra head and started singing baroque rounds to herself while juggling technicolor, fedora-wearing ferrets.
"No," Tara shook her head, "No, this is impossible. I identified his body in the morgue when I was a kid, I signed all the papers, I visited his grave every day since he died...they cremated him, his ashes are still in a box in North America. I was there when he was shot dead and I saw him fall... I'm sorry, miss, but you have the wrong man. Another Erik Chan, probably. Chan is a very...a very popular name. I think you've made a mistake."
She stood and hastily slipped on her panties and shorts and shed her gown, tossing it onto the bed with little ceremony. "Thank you, doctor Snare," she said, then turned to her fiance, "come on Azure, lets go home." Tara's voice fell almost to a whisper. How cruel of the woman to bring it up? She couldn't have known Tara thought her father was dead...maybe she was just trying to do something nice? But Tara knew that dead was dead. Her father had no Sasha to resurrect him, no doctor to attend to him, no police officer to defend him. Her father was dead as dead could be, she had been told by many a professional that there was no way he was coming back. This man Doctor Snare claimed to know was not her father. It was impossible.
And yet as she gathered her things Tara felt a smidgen of hope, dusty from years of neglect and disregard, rise and fill her like a balloon with energy. Her mind was buzzing with "what ifs" and other possibilities as she grasped the door handle and turned it, then pushed the door open into the hall.
"Oh my god." she squeaked. " No this is impossible... you're dead. You've been dead for twelve years. I saw it happen... I--I identified the body, they wheeled you away..."
Tara's knees sank beneath her and she found herself looking up at her father, Erik Chan who, despite all odds, was staring rather confusedly back at her.
"I'm ...sorry?" he squeaked in tentative response, pressing his back against the wall to put more distance between himself and the crazy woman. "I don't know who you are..."
"What do you mean? Erik Chan...my name is Tara... Tara Chan, I am your daughter. How can you not remember me?"
Erik groaned inwardly. Oh no... "Listen, miss, I don't have any family."
"That's because they didn't tell you about me! They didn't keep records of slaves, only people. Slaves aren't people, according to them. Look at me...don't I remind you of someone? I was a shape shifter too... like you!" Tara looked up at her father with pleading eyes bristling with tears, "You've got to remember me. Please remember me...please."
Erik flustered slightly and looked up from Tara to Citole as if asking for help. "I..." he looked back at Tara, and tried to remember for the distraught woman whether or not they were related. He felt compelled to comfort her, but he was also afraid of her, and so he refrained. He studied her for as long as was comfortable, then shook his head. "I'm sorry." He said, choked with emotion by her desperate plea. The look on the woman's face nearly sent him into fits of tears, and he placed a hand on her shoulder. "But it...it could be possible? Oh please don't cry. I'm sorry."
Tara sniffled,
"It-it's okay. I have proof though...photos that I saved. This necklace you gave me," she pulled it out of her shirt and over her head, then handed it to him, "Look it says 'To our darling Tara, love Mummy and Daddy' see? And there is a picture on the back. Of us, and mom."
Erik handled the precious item carefully. Wow...that really was him. Did he really look like that back then? He wrinkled his nose, and handed the necklace back to Tara, who looked up to her fiance for support. Erik stood and scratched the back of his head nervously,
"Um...Citole, love...what is going on?"
